I think that almost any way you communicate that they're gay, especially given that most kid's shows tend to avoid most relationships, would be objected to by everyone. I'm all for characters who are gay, but not characters whose defining trait is being gay.

Of course they should. Children's television serves a very specific purpose. It's how children learn about the world around them and how they relate to it. And more and more children are growing up in families that look like this one:

Children's shows reflect reality. That's why the South African version of Sesame Street has a character with AIDS on it, because it's something that effects a large number of children and they need to learn how to deal with it.

Homosexuality means a whole hell of lot more than just gay sex. It affects who you love, and therefore what families look like.

Don't put it where it doesn't need to be, you don't put crack in kids shows just like you don't need to put violence obscure sex toys and homosex...

It's fine, but I don't see why kids need to be exposed to men or women kissing up in a kids show.

Kids stuff where characters have a clear sexual tendency are so rare that there is no reason to make a distinction between a gay and hetero character on them.

We probably need to straight things out here (excuse the pun), we're not saying there should be hardcore man on man, hot oily action on Sesame Street, we're saying that occasionally, if a character was seen to have two moms, or two dads, that might help kids in not being freaked out by the concept later in life.
This does make a lot of sense tho. The occasional kid with 2 parents or 2 moms should be acceptable, but shouldn't be iron pressed into the show just for the sake of it.

Theoretically it's fine. But as soon as we start catering to one sub-culture in these shows, every other one under the sun will want representing under the banner of them being discriminated against by not having the air time other sub-cultures have.

So that may be why it isn't already prevalent, because it's simply too much hassle.

Besides, i think there are other ways in which the concept of homosexuality, bisexuality and transvestitism and transexuality(?) can be taught to the young generations more effectively and safely.

I'd say yes as it would allow better understanding of such things at a younger age. But they would have to be done tactfully you know? No raging stereotypes, we're not trying to indoctrinate anyone or anything, just educate them.

It's not like it can make kids tv shows any WORSE -_-

The dub is free on youtube with the owners permission, take a look.
Arashi no Yoru Ni (One stormy night)

It's an extremely light hearted and rather sweet romance between the two male protagonists in a children's film.
Fox and the Hound + Romeo and Juliet + Brokeback Mountain

Anything to do with love is simply "friendship" and anything to do with sexuality is "eating." The tension between the two is masked as carnivore confusion. It's all subtext. VERY BLATANT, but it's still subtext.

This is somewhere the Japanese do pretty good. Watch, say, Card Captor Sakura, or many other anime or manga along those lines. You'll find a good representation of a wide variety of relationships.

When I watched Card capture's I never noticed or associated any odd/gay relationships, I don't know what you're talking about?!

No.
The whole gay acceptance thing in the media is appropriate to adults only.
Why expose children to sexual minorities when they'll find out about that and more soon enough in their teens.
I think its ok to draw a line under this topic and not worry about looking open-minded or not.

There is no problem with it, they shouldnt be discussing sexual things obviously but you see storylines in cartoons about "love" interests and what not and I dont see why some of those cant be gay "love" interests.

No, young kids already have enough to deal with and figure out without throwing complex sexuality in the mix aswell.
