Also, that second part is incorrect. The winners of the mens and womens tournament are crowned as grass court champions for the year, the best in the world is only claimed after multiple wins at different tournaments throughout the year.
Sorry, I made a mistake when writing that bit. What I meant was that the winner of the men's tournament will be the best overall compared with the winner of the women's tournament simply being the best woman player.

I honestly wasn't having a go at you or anything, it's just... Well... You *were* factually wrong and this *is* the internet =p. Good form.

No worries boss. When someone is wrong they're wrong...even if the offender is me. Good job on calling me out.

They're separated because otherwise, the women wouldn't earn anything at all, because none of them would actually win anything.

As for the topic, it's up to Wimbledon to decide what to do but it is pretty silly to give equal money to the people who bring in substantially less.

As you pointed out, men play 5 sets as opposed to the 3 of women. Therefore men do more playing and should, in my opinion, recieve more. As to whether they should play a different amount of sets is a different argument altogether.

I don't see why we are segregating players by gender. I though we were all supposed to be about equality now. Get rid of men's and women's tennis, and just have everyone compete in tennis. Same with football, basketball, baseball, soccer and everything else. No more of these sexist double standards.
Second! If women really want equality, it's time we held them to the same standards we hold men! No more of this 'push ups with your knees' and 'hanging time' instead of full pull ups. After all, women should be able to do anything that men can. And do it better! And do it in heels!

I don't understand the disconnect between most of the posts and the actual votes *scratches head*

Otherwise an interest little little debate here regarding gender differences in tennis, a sport i have 0 interest in but came in expecting it to be similar to womens football vs mens football (and was about to argue women do deserve a better pay as their work is every bit as hectic as the guys in that one..but seems tennis =/= football and i stand corrected)

Economics should make this a pretty simple concept. Less money brought in by women's matches should result in less prize money. Not to mention they are playing less time than the men are. So no, men should be earning more in this situation.

Playing 5 sets would greatly increase injury chances.
I read your post the first time, but didn't answer it. In all seriousness, I think that's a load of crap, the very last bastion of the women are the weaker sex brigade.
There's a difference between sexism and biology. You may not want to accept it, but physically, men are typically superior to women. It's no conspiracy, no "bastion" of sexism. It's simple biology. The strongest woman will never hold a candle to the strongest man. At least physically, women ARE the weaker sex.
