I'm very sorry to hear about your mother. That must be hard for you.

It's true that even relatively minor changes to the structure of the brain can radically alter facets of our cognitive function. It's very easy to forget that we are essentially brains.
The fact that she's changed as a person sort of pales in comparison to the changes to my life caused by her subsequent actions, I never really mourned the loss of a mother so much as the loss of my family life in general.

But thanks anyway.

It's pretty fun to look at the development and evolution of the human body, and life in general. It's crazy that we're so simple, but so unique. I mean, have you seen an earthworms CNS? It's brain is literally a couple of rings or nerves around it's oesophagus, linked by more nerves which continue on down it's body like a spinal cord.
Mental.
I'm sorry to hear it's been so rough man. You seem like a good guy from the posts I've seen from you around the forum. Life isn't fair.

Primitive CNS' are fascinating. I was looking at spiders' CNS the other day and it's completely insane that the entirety of even quite behaviourally complex spiders, like hunting/jumping spiders, is controlled by two tiny nerve bundles around the sub and post oesophageal cavities. Then we get onto all kinds of crazy explanations like real time modification of gene expression (forgotten the name, begins with P iirc) to account for such complex behaviours from such a primitive CNS.

Nature be crazy.

Your missing the point, genetics can yes affect the hard wiring, but, it doesn't MAKE you do what you do, people still have choices, those choices aren't illusion and how your raised can affect you more than anything else when it comes to those decisions. I'm also trying to be optimistic here, you know the: hey if you love them be with them kind of view, not the gene testing is awesome and we need more of this:

We don't need gene testing for the perfect race I mean love of your life, just find a person you can love and settle down. Life's not that hard so lets not complicate the answers.

I see, so I spend an hour carefully explaining to you, in simple terms that a non-scientist can understand, why it is that genes are everything you are and why it is that, yes, genes do affect your choices before you've even made them and you essentially ignore the cold science of the matter with a sarcastic comment.

That's not particularly mature, now is it?

I ... I ...

Is science education this bad? I honestly intend no offence, for it isn't your fault you've been miseducated and education is in no way related to intelligence (i.e. I'm not calling you stupid).
Insulting my teachers and then lecturing me insulting my intelligence. (I'm just pointing out my point of view, because, perspective is a mother fucker.)

So let's just drop it and enjoy our day, how bouts I buy you a beer and we can debate this later.

That sentence is missing crucial syntax, so I can't understand whether or not you're insulted. If you are then I apologise again, I clearly stated that offending you wasn't my intent.

On the theme of perspective, the reason I 'lectured' you was because your (continued) statement that genes don't make us who we are is just factually false. The 'lecture' was necessary to explain why exactly the statement is factually false. I could have just said 'you're wrong, here's my opinion', but how would that have helped you or anyone else reading this? As in all debates, it's the facts which are key.
