I think that because the ps4 has no backwards compatibility neither will the xbox 720 or whatever it's gonna be called, so maybe this gen I will(it's not like trading them in will get me much money anyway)
What your opinion escapists?

I have no reason to get rid of them. The only reason I can think of that someone would get rid of them is storage space.

I love my PS3, and probably won't get a next-gen console immediately on launch anyway so me and my PS3 still have some sweet love time.

Well that's an easy solution:

Do you plan on replaying old games?
If yes, keep your old console. If no, feel free to get rid of it.

Personally, it's rare that I ever replay current generation games, let alone older games. I'm just not a replay kind of fella and so I generally dump the former console once the new one comes out.

If there's really no backwards compatability, then you're going to have to, unless you wish to render your previous games collection obsolete. Or just get a PC which can play practically every PC game ever made (compatability with some older titles excepted). Not to mention to slew of emulators with which you can play every 8 and 16-bit console game ever made too.

I probably won't.

I've been offering my 360 to friends for a while, I don't care what happens to that. If I buy a PS4, the PS3 will likely go to my brother. The idea of revisiting old games has always been nicer in my head than it has ever been in reality, with the exception of the Max Payne series... which is timeless.

Why not? And I still keep my Ps2 and Ps1! I still replay older games from time to time, plus all the exclusive digital games on XBLA and PSN, what a waste to chuck them out.

Plus, too many memories... and I'm a hoarder.

If the PS4 was backwards compatible then I would sell my PS3.

But it's not so I won't.

Most likely. I'll probably end up running my 360 into the dirt before getting rid of it. I probably wouldn't be able to sell it for much anyway, considering I've had the damn thing for almost 4 years now and it's starting to make some not-so-healthy noises.

Of course!

We still have a PS2, in addition to our PS3.

Besides, I'm not planning on buying a new console any time soon. The PS4 really hasn't had anything that really catches my attention

I really doubt I'll be getting the PS4, and my PS3 has been a good little media box/PS1&2 emulator for the past 6 years... so it's probably not going anywhere until I have two PCs that can emulate it (desk rig and living room rig). As things stand, my desk rig is only marginally faster than a PS3 (built in the same era) and my living room rig is... slow. (FM1 A4 APU, only good for video playback and retro gaming).

...also, when it gets retired, it's only going to be hooked up in the attic alongside my 2600, NES, SNES, Genesis, PS1 and PS2.

Given how I just finished playing my SNES, no. I own for life.

Well there's really no other choice, is there?

Unless I wanna end up with a dozens of unplayable games.

I've heard that the new xbox will be fully backwards compatible. the reason the PS3 was a major void of backwards compatibility was the cell processor
