Um no. XD Tragic deaths are those where the individual caused their own demise. So say some random drunk driver killed an innocent. That innocent's death (by definition) does not qualify as tragic. Now if the drunk driver got themselves killed, that IS tragic. This is because it was their own actions and mistakes that got them killed in the first place.

Seriously, look up the original definitions. Greek plays, yo.

As for your intent for this post: no, I personally do not get upset over every person that dies. Why? Because everyone dies. Some deaths are much worse than others, don't get me wrong and truly unfortunate deaths have brought me to tears, but ultimately, death is natural. Freak accidents are natural too as not everything is going to work perfectly 100% of the time. Things happen and ultimately, life goes on.

I think I can speak for a lot when for example (today)

- Oslo attacks
VS
- Amy Winehouse

The first I think will gather more sympathy. The second, none (from me at least).

But on Yahoo news, Amy Winehouse's death IS the top story. So at least we know what the editors there think is more important...

I have to say, no.
If someone who I don't know dies, why does it have to be tragic to ME? If some celebrities death occurs, why should I have to have be personally affected? The fact is I don't know 99% of the Earth population, and death happens every day. Hundreds of thousands of people die every day. I don't enter into a day by day depression over it. Something being horrible is one person's opinion.

Yes all death is tragic, but not all deaths deserve the sympathy of you specifically. If someone has told you that you should mourn every single person who's died today, they probably have no idea what they're talking about. But saying that something isn't tragic unless it effects you, really you might as well wear a t-shirt reading "I am an asshole."

Very few people will die without anyone to miss them. As has been mentioned before, almost every death will be tragic to someone. All I'd ask of anyone is to respect that, I wouldn't expect everyone to mourn every death ever, as us living beings will come and go all the time.

Edit: Yeah, so everything I said has been repeated ad infinitum already. Woops! Guess I'm adding to the choir. >.>

Absolutely not.

Tragedy is when a mother with her toddler in a stroller get hit by a bus while crossing the street.

Tragedy is when a talented young person squanders his potential and drives himself into an early grave.

An old man passing peacefully in his sleep after living a full, long life is NOT a tragedy. It may be sad for his friends and family, but it is not tragic in any way, shape or form.

As much as I'd love to do so, I can't. I'd be lying if I said 'I feel sorry for Amy Winehouse.'

Having said that, I believe that all life is precious and that death is just like birth.

Not all death is tragic. But I still have sympathy for most individuals.
Take the recent death of Amy Winehouse for example. She OD'd after years of drug and alchohol abuse. and yet, she was sstill very young, and I can sympathise with her family. I'm not saying "good", but it's a shame that someone so young was taken for such a stupid reason.
On the other hand, there's people like Osama Bin Laden. he was a hate-filled mass murderer. Glad he's dead. I shouldn't be, but I am.

You shouldn't be bawling over every single death that happens in the world, of course. But you should at least be sympathetic to those who died, whether it be from a rampage or from their own hand.

As a man once said, "A single death is tragic, a million is a statistic". Humans can't comprehend vast numbers like thousands or hundreds of thousands or millions. So, whenever someone prominent dies, or when a big event that nobody saw coming that involves dozens dead, we transfer that grief to those who have recently passed.

To say "death doesn't matter!", "Death isn't tragic!" "people die every day, stop being wimps!" is just disrespectful to those who had died and, in my humble opinion, a pretty arrogant and immature outlook on life. To say death doesn't matter is to say that life, and it's whole mystery and wonders, doesn't matter, and if you agree with that (not saying you do), then, well, you're probably a cynical bastard and know it to.

I agree with the fact that death is not tragic as there is little to no personal impact.

That said, being personally unaffected by someone's death doesn't make it right to joke about them or judge them.

In a way yes, but at the same time, I hate when it's blown out of proportion. For instance, I don't give a damn about Casey Anthony.

I don't even know know if Casey is the daughter or the mother

In order to disprove a statement, one only needs to find one counterexample.

Here's your one counterexample: Osama Bin Laden.

Honestly, I really don't give a damn about most deaths.

To me it's tragic unless the person deserves it or caused it, I don't care for amy whinehouse because she most likelly die because of all the drugs and booze, why should I care about some idiot that spent all her money on something that she knew that wold harm her?

i think that death is tragic, if not to me then to someone else and the dead must be treated with respect, no matter who they are or what they did, celebrate them, or rejoice in their passing, or mourn their death, but treat them with respect once they have passed on. no matter who they were or what grudges you had with them, once someone has died that's it, death is final, and we should respect those who are gone.
