I don't think I could say all death is tragic, but regardless of who it was or if I knew them,all death is sad.

I mean look and the Norway shooing , over 90 people dead, that is tragic, some were only kids none of them deserved to die so young.
Then take a look at Miss Whinehouse, while it's sad that shes gone, she messed up her own life and that ultimately caused her own demise I wouldn't say it was tragic I'd say she should've accepted help when it was presented to her.

Yes we all die at some point but we should be able to live a half decent life before it is taken away, because for all we know we only have one.

I think all death is tragic, but obviously the closer that person is to me the more tragic it feels. Even if they're outwardly "bad people", it's still a negative thing to have a person die. Even if they're dying from a painful disease or the like and death is a mercy, it's still tragic.

Well, I acknowledge that it may be affecting some people and that the unwritten rules of social etiquette dictates that there's a required period of time after a death where you are not allowed to make jokes about it or be insensitive in any way. However that doesn't mean I should drop everything because of it.

I find death to be tragic when it could've been prevented in some way if more action was taken when the opportunity to do so arised, for example the death of a child due to negligence or the death of a public figure who had more than enough opportunity to get help from the people who were more than happy to give it.

Other things in this category are deaths dues to natural disaster, because even though you can't prevent a volcano from erupting, you can still plan for it, the same would go for terrorist attacks. You can't prevent them (unless you've got security up the yin-yang) but you can prepare for it and try to minimize the damage caused.

Basically, I'm saying that I understand why it's tragic, but I have my own criteria.

Eh, it's rare for death to be tragic. Usually it's necessary, or it involves the person in question dying to live or living to die.

It's called common decency. Every death is tragic to someone and it's about respecting that other people exist and have feelings. It's also about not being 'that guy'.

I have a question for all you people who said that all death is tragic. Was Hitler's death tragic? Was Bin Laden's death tragic? Is a child murderer/molester's death tragic? Is the death of someone who has been suffering for a long time tragic, rather than a relief? Is it really fair to equate the death of human garbage and the death of an infant under the same word? The only way death is tragic is if the world is a worse place for that person having left it. Or in the case of an infant or child dying, a potentially worse place.

Just something I'm curious about.

And for all you people who probably think otherwise right now, I have empathy and emotions and all that. I also have logic and reasoning. Oh and an understanding that nothing is ever black and white. It's called perspective, people. Get some.

...Amy Winehouse died? I'm not a fan, but I thought I would at least have heard about it. Shows just how removed from society I am.

OT: No, it isn't tragic, and it's remarkably selfish and pretentious for people who have suffered a loss to expect others to give a shit. I didn't expect anyone to care when my grandpa died. It would make no sense if they did, and the condolences I recieved just seemed insincere for that reason. Death happens. You deal with it, and you don't expect any special priveleges.

Giving a shit isn't the same as showing respect. To be honest, I don't really care very much that Amy Winehouse is dead. But I wouldn't burst out with laughter when I hear about it.

How is that tragic? The world got a bit smarter the moment he managed to hit that detonator a tad early, if you ask me.
It's no loss at all, if you ask me.

Death is always tragic when it happens to innocents, though. Good people who minded their own business, then got killed.
It's less tragic and more sad when people die of natural causes, like old age, but premature death is never a good thing. Unless it happens to bastards like Mr. Abdulwahab above. That was a good thing.

This reminds me of a certain image board that is trolling the memorial page for some 14 year old girl killed herself.
The reasoning is because she had an incest thing going on with her sister and thought she it would be cool to tell a bunch of people about it. Then she killed herself.
But that certain image board is pissed because her Facebook memorial page consists of "Ohh she's so brave" "What a sad thing"
so they been basically just like "YUP... Sexing up your sister,telling everyone, killing yourself. WHAT A HERO"

But back on topic not all death is tragic.

If we didnt die, we would never celebrate or get anything done because there just wouldnt be any point. I'm glad there is death in the world, not for any sick reason but because without it, we'd just stagnate.
When i die, i plan to leave a series of tasks,and the funding to follow them through to my son or daughter or well, any family member or friend i have, upon completion of such tasks they can have whatever i had and inherit it. A bit like a treasure chest. Why you may ask? Well, to remind them to do something with their lives and if its me that starts that for them ill be really happy

The only time I show no sympahy at all are the ones who had taken another life (criminal) or have done certain wrongs in this world (pedo) or I have no idea who they are (e.g. like the recent Amy Winehouse thread) unless I decided to read up on that person.
Any other time I will show some sympathy like the victums in natural disater unlike certain people who are remorseless (I'm fine to those who don't show sympathy as long you don't be a jerk about it).
