Everything on that list.

But, honestly, the FIRST one to come to mind (before I was the poll) was Big Bang Theory.

I just don't 'get' the appeal.
It's like Friends, with a more modern take.

Still ain't enjoyable.

When I saw the thread title I immediately thought "Anchorman".

I really don't understand why that movie was meant to be so funny. Look, he's shouting. Shouting is hilarious. Wheee.

Seinfeld.

"But it reminds me of me and my friends hangin' out."
You and your friends are unrelatable dicks? No wonder we're not close.

As much as I hate Seinfeld, top marks go to Tim and Eric.
The world would be a significantly better place if they each caught fire and died.

"You don't get it, it's not meant to be funny."
I get anti-humor, I like anti-humor, but being intentionally awful isn't an excuse for being awful. If I gave you a pie that tasted exactly like horse shit would you accept the excuse that it's supposed to taste like horse shit and keep eating it?
I certainly hope not.

Breaking Bad. Why does everyone love this show so much? It's not funny at all.

Okay I forgot about Tim & Eric, and I think I was better for it. Yea. That's the worst.

Sorry, I love Seinfeld...but I'm from NYC, so I'm allowed..

Anything with any relation to Chris Lilley. I have no idea how big of a deal he is in the Americas or Europe, but his shows are allegedly comedy masterpieces here in Oceania. Allegedly.

For outsiders who don't know who he is, imagine Sacha Baron Cohen's characters. Now remove any of the absurd, over-the-top characteristics that made Cohen's characters funny, and replace them with the most tired, run of the mill stereotypes you can imagine. Then add in an actor that has no sense of comedic timing, and seems to think that he's doing a legit documentary, instead of the "Hilaaaarious Satires" that Australian and New Zealand press seem to be watching instead.

Actually you know what? Scratch all of that, just imagine that you filmed an average day of your life. Then take an important figure from it (preferably ethnically diverse) and replace him/her with a 20-something white dude with a very punchable looking face acting out the most insensitive yet most tired cliches associated with your chosen person. That is literally all of Chris Lilley's shows in a nutshell.

He plays everything so fucking straight that it's too dull, monotonous and predictable to even snicker at, and once the thrill of a white dude dressing up as a Samoan schoolboy or an Asian mother wears off (which it does remarkably fast), you're left with one of the dullest, most cringe worthy shows you will ever see. Any of his 3(!) shows fits this description. I will never, ever, ever understand the appeal of this asshat

Most sit-coms. Since most of the ones I've seen just seem to revolve around a bunch of people I can't be asked to care about having relationship issues.

Futurama

If there's one piece of lauded media that goes right over my head it's this one. It's primarily how you can see the jokes coming from freaking miles away. It telegraphs its humor with a goddamn siren.

Anything with Will Ferrel, Adam Sandler, or Kevin James is automatically avoided by me. I just dislike their comedy style and I don't find them funny. I don't watch a lot of TV besides history, military, science or cooking related. I haven't watched a sitcom in years. I don't think I have seen a comedy movie in theaters within the last 5 years except when my whole family practically wanted to go see Ted last year.

Shawn of The Dead. I honestly have watched it at least 4 times trying to wrap my head around its popularity. Its a very below average comedy that got a lot of attention for reasons unbeknownst to me. That being said, Hot Fuzz was an improvement and The Worlds End i found to be well written and funnier.

Napoleon Dynamite. Don't understand the appeal.

Big Bang Theory/ Two and Half Men. *UPROARIOUS FAKE LAUGHTER*

Out of all of the poll choices, I'd say Big Bang Theory. My parents love it and keep saying that I'd love it too since it's about nerds, but I just can't get into it. There's maybe like 1 or 2 lines that make me chuckle, but that's about it. "Check out these nerds! They play games! They read comics! They're science majors! And they're so out of place with society! Aren't they hysterical?" It's as trope that's been played out for so damn long that it's not funny anymore. You'd have to do something really unique with it to make it entertaining, but BBT just doesn't cut it.

And count me in on Tim and Eric. I've tried watching their stuff and I just can't get into them. Tom Goes to the Mayor is fucking boring, and Tim and Eric Awesome Show is just not funny. It's not even so bad that it's good. Anti-humor and random humor can be really funny when done well, but it looks like they just come up with the most random sketches and hope for the best.

I have laughed a t a few Big Bang Theory jokes but still think the show is patronizing.

Other than that School Rumble and Azumanga Daioh, the former just not being my bag(the OP is great though) and the later is just not funny. If I'm going to watch cute girls do cute things I'll watch Hidamari Sketch.

Never got the appeal of it either yet to listen to people you'd swear it was the funniest show ever made.It has moments but overall it's not that great

Wish you would let us pick more than one. Most of the examples you posted are equally unfunny to me. The only ones I do like on that are Jim Sterling, Joker, and Family Guy (Minus Peter Griffin, HATE him). All the rest I can totally do without.

Though I will give the first Rush Hour movie props for having a child damsel in distress who wasn't a wilting flower. That girl put up one HELL of a fight against the guys trying to kidnap her, and was very clever and resourceful. Yeah ultimately she was overwhelmed by a group of well trained adults. Not surprising really, I mean she was only 7 years old against a group of adults, not much chance, but damn she gave them a fight to remember before she got caught.

THAT kind of Distressed Damsel I don't mind at all.

The Hangover trilogy, for me, is by far the most overrated movies I have ever seen in terms of it being funny.

How can people find those movies funny? I don't understand. I enjoy crass and crazy things happening in a comedy movie, but those 3 movies I barely managed to watch them through. I didn't get their appeal at all, just pathetic attempts at making the audience laugh. Zach Galifianakis is -NOT- funny.

Big Bang Theory as well I find it more insulting than anything else. I enjoyed the beginning until I found out that they were trying to be nerdy just for the sake of it which only angered me. I stopped watching it after the second season.

Yahtzee an Jim far as this site goes. With JIm though, I don't really watch his show for the 'humor' so I don't really care, Yahtzee on the other hand, hasn't been really funny in a long time. Which kind sucks cause it makes his videos kinda dull some times.

The Nostalgia Critic and Linkara, I don't find as funny ether, I do laugh some times, but again, not watching them for the humor, hell I only bother with Linkara for History of Power Rangers. I mostly watch TNC to see if he hated (____) much as I did.

I can not stand anything Will Ferral is in, or Movies like The Hangover. You know, blatantly stupid 'comedy' movies, you can throw anything Ben Stiller has been in and American Pie into this pie as well. Fuck all these movies.

That entire list sums it up pretty well.

I will echo the disdain of Nostalgia Critic/That Guy with Glasses. His type of "humor" is the type that, apparently, a lot of self-proclaimed nerds consider the pinnacle of comedy, or it's at least their preferred flavor. It's the exact type I despise. It's so transparent and disingenuous. The primary characteristic is hyperbole, especially with regards to reactionary expression. But it's exaggeration for exaggeration's sake. It reminds me of the humor of an insular ten year-old; just strikes me as very immature and 'safe'. It generally feels to me that the hyperbole is there to mask a lack of self-confidence. The more extreme, outlandish and disconnected the exaggeration is, the less confidence the person has. I have quite a few acquaintances who fall into this category. When it fails to spark a laugh, they tend to then dive into irreverent alliteration, falling from ten years old to five years old in a desperate attempt to maintain or gain social standing.

I love that part of it, when it backfires and they just dig themselves into a deeper pit in the Land of Awkward. I just let it happen and remain quiet. I want to see how far they're willing to dig. I'm not going to laugh just to be polite, fuck 'em. I love it when confidence is effortlessly broken by reality.

I tend to find realistic scenarios funny. I don't like exaggeration for the sake of it. I like constructed things, anecdotes and the like, that allow you to create a picture in your mind and visualize the situation.

Also, people who try to be funny aren't. The aforementioned over-exaggerating type of people above fall into this category, but so does anyone who does something for the sake of it, trying to force humor. Instead of the difficult and intelligent route of construction and creation, they go for what's perceived to be easy. Or they're too dumb to do anything but.

Eddie the head said:

I agree. The characters' motivations are increasingly trite and feel very forced. However, there are a few scenes that are among the funniest I've ever seen on TV. The way they're acted and nuanced is spot on. They don't have much to do with the overall plot (i.e. the scheme or situation the characters find themselves in) and are fairly contained. It's annoying to me that the show can have these little gems of incredibly well portrayed interaction that's genuinely funny, and yet the overall show/episode plot is just absurd to a frustrating degree.

Big Bang Theory, Family Guy, Two and a Half Men are all on my list. I've watched them, tried to understand them, but they're actually just really really unfunny.

Also I dislike Napoleon Dynamite. Not funny in the slightest.
