Most of the time, yes. It's usually your subconscious thoughts that you can't control or what's been playing on your mind.
Sometimes it's glaringly obvious what your dream signifies, sometimes you have to dig a little deeper to understand them.
They can tell us their's problems we need to address. If you're like me and you suppress all your problems, you usually end up with night terrors because you can't escape them in your sleep.
I still have silly dreams which mean nothing, but sometimes it's a good idea to think about what a dream might mean and if you can improve your life in any way. Recurring dreams typically mean there's definitely a problem that needs to be sorted.

Usually its all the things that have happened during the day/week and a mixture of films and TV shows you watched. It all mashes together to create some weird experiences
Well...yes. To an extent. Is it a deep meaning is another issue entirely, but I do have a "hobby" of sorts of analysing my own dreams and I find that they are often a very warped and distorted representation of recent events. For example, one dream I recall from when I was quite a lot younger, was me trying to make my way through...something like a tunnel or something, it was a narrow path with smooth wall on one side and a huge black lightless chasm on the other. And there were traps all over the place. After I woke up, I spent some time pondering it and actually found out that I was very familiar with that scenario. Well, not exactly the same but it was close enough - me and my friends had made a "secret base" which was in a basement and the narrow path just represented the normal corridor of the basement, the black chasm, was just the fact that there wasn't a light bulb, and the traps - well, since it was dark, we had to move with care, lest we stubbed our toes or bumped into a wall. My dream was a quite a bit more epic than the real life scenario.
I don't think there is a meaning, but what is weird is I get deja vu all the time. I mean it is almost like exactly what I dreamt happens, but a little change happens because I noticed the feeling. Except this one time when I was young playing hockey, I realized afterward that I had seen this happen before...

I've had this occur around three times in my life, with the most significant being around when I was ten, basically I dreamed of being in a foreign place, a hotel to be exact, and that I found a small black toy car in our hotel room, and around six months later my father and I went to Greece on holiday, and when we got to the hotel I did find the car and that's when I thought back to my dream. I have no scientific explanation for why it happened, although if time really isn't linear then I suppose it's possible to dream about things that "haven't" happened yet by our understanding of time, when really it could be something bleeding through the time line or some such crazy thing that's too hard to understand. All I know is I clearly remember it happening and I have no idea why, and this is from someone who is extremely skeptical about psychics and paranormal activity too.Glongpre said:

OT: I have a huge dream analysis book, but I usually only use it if the dream has a lasting impact on me. Most of my dreams are random nonsense and fighting monsters and stuff (I watch far too many movies). When it's a weird one, I like to look it up, though.

Not really. They seem to just reflect my thoughts, feelings and worries from the day. I guess it does have some meaning, but if it's important enough to show up in a dream I'm aware of it anyway. For example, when I'm distressed my dreams will be more vivid and strange (incidentally they're much more vivid when I'm sleep-deprived as well), so when I'm going through a breakup my dreams will involve my ex somehow. But hey, it's not telling me anything new.
I'm certain that some dreams do. The meaning isn't universal, of course-- and there's no universal symbolism-- but they can represent personal issues, fears and guilt or excitement.

They can but do not necessarily do. For instance I have some real weird drams I even have one I rember to this day despite being years ago. I once descended into an underground fortress to rescue friends and fiction charters with Bob Saget who then tried to kill Thrall (Yes that Thrall) and wound up getting blown the fuck up. It felt like it was a movie.
I have also had dream that clearly mean something like "Yeah you have not talked to mom" or "Holy damn! Get out of criminal justice!" and the dream generally follows that notion and you wake up and have a an idea that will effect your day.
So yeah... I mean perhaps.

I don't know what me surfing on a title wave that is flowing around my city in circles while a horde of surfing zombies chases me could possibly mean...
My dad would call that a future flash, he would be able to explain it so much better. It's basically when you see or feel something, whether in a dream or real life, you see events that come to pass with a few differences, but it's the same basic experience. My brother had a similar experience where in a dream, he had an experience he would have in real life about a week later. My dad has a strong scientific, and a strong religious/spiritual mind who could explain this in either a skeptical or spiritual sense, better than I ever could.Jamieson 90 said:

Yes and no. They "mean something" as a mish-mash of your subconscious thoughts, and they can reveal some of your feelings towards specific topics.

My dreams are usually a fucked up moshpit of random things happening, litterally anything can happen. I have had dreams that progressed from gokarting to fighting black holes with giant birds, and it all made sense at the time. If dreams do mean anything it must mean that i am actually quite insane and barely able to just contain it 
My brain tends to channel surf when i dream, and none of it is good, it's susually a mishmash of my worse memories, some are combined with things i've been thinking about or doing through the day, others are just seriously wierd. I don't give much stock to my dreams meaning something.
Believe it or not, I can sometimes see the future in my dreams. Problem with it though it that it's usually something mundane that I'll overlook as just a random boring dream. I won't even recall it until the event starts to play out. major Deja Vu moments.

Dream: I was over at my friend's place watching one of their shows, and the guy on the show was talking about how he drove drunk and wrecked, throwing the passenger out of the car and breaking his legs.
Reality: Same as above, but my friend was showing that him, his wife, and I are all horrible people, because the above scene played out on the show, followed by the guy sobbing "I did that." which, that phrase is an inside joke between the three of us, so we all started laughing hysterically.
I had a few dreams back when I was with my ex about us getting caught having sex(which happened twice, but not in the same way it happened in the dreams...), and I had a dream about us having sex about a month or so before we got together. I didn't know it was her until the dream "happened" (in the dream her face was obscured, but everything else that was... on display matched).
I had a dream where some random girl gave me her number while I was at work. I could remember the first 6 digits of the number from the dream... The 6 digits I remembered were spot on, turned out to be a prank, but it was weird.
Too bad, I couldn't see the winning lottery numbers or something.

My dreams are equal parts bat shit random and boringly mundane. Flying a giant green teddy bear over a church bell tower made entirely out of caterpillars and butterflies, or a wondering around small backyard garden. There always seems to be something a little bit "Off" in the mundane ones though. Like a guy in suit of armor watering the flowers or something.
It's been my long held opinion that dreams are just the "Screen Saver" of the mind. Pretty, and mostly useless. Any symbolism in them is just regularly scheduled maintenance scans running in the background.

It depends what you mean by meaning. If you mean are they messages of some kind, or can they offer you some kind of insight, then no not really, at least not usually. But there is a growing body of research that links dreaming to both concious and unconcious thought. Sometimes it will be as simple as something that is worrying you manifesting in your dreams, if you feel snowed under at work for example, you might have a nightmare about being trapped in a maze of offices. Most of the time it will be nothing this litteral, but as a huge part of the way human memory is formed and processed is though association, all of the "random" things you dream about are linked to your actual thoughts and memories being processed by your brain.
