I enjoy the cathartic effect of large guns, but that's probably just because the main shooter I play is UT2k4.

Silencers don't do all that much in real life, but since I don't want to lose my hearing prematurely, I'll slience my guns. That doesn't make them stealthy, as any guard with an ear can still hear 'em, mind you.

I like my guns quiet so the neighbours don't notice when I shoot the raccoons threatening my cat in the summer.

Oh wait you mean guns in video games? I want a lot of bangs in a short period of time.

Being sneaky can be fun, but there is nothing more satisfying than running through a crowded room, showering bullets from a heavy machine gun whilst laughing manically. Bonus points for scaring friends/family/neighbours.

This is how I played the Airport level in MW2.

"AHHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHAHHAHA!" *BLAMBLAMBLAMBLAMASSPLOSIONBLAMBLAMBLAM* "AHAHAHAHAHA!"

By doing it in a game I don't feel the need to do it irl.

I prefer to be loud and aggressive in FPS games.

So I often go for the un-supressed option. I like hearing the bang bang sounds, and games often over-exaggerate the effect suppressors have on normal ammunition. Eg. the silenced shotguns on MW2. Sure it's possible, but they dont reduct noise THAT much :p

Sometimes I feel like a stealthy load out though, but I'm mainly a run 'n' gun kinda chap.

Loud and proud gets you blown to bits. Silenced and sneak gets you killing tougher enemies first, usually with a sniper shot to the head, then wading into the grunts in the panic and taking the rest out by using cover and clever tactics. I'm not suicidal, so you can probably guess which one I'd go for...

Anyway, pretty much every army in the world uses the sneaky approach too, it's sensible battle planning. Apart from the USA, of course. The USA seems to love being loud and proud...
I guess if your army is big enough and rich enough, then you can afford to be loud and proud. It's only little nations like us that dont have the manpower or funding to atomize our adversaries with expensive ordinance/ swamp them with troops on a regular basis :p

Loud and proud. I take pride in my status as the decoy in online multi-player FPS matches.

There's a lot of adrenaline pumping fun in sneaking around behind the enemies backs, that's what makes Splinter Cell and Metal Gear popular. That said, I also enjoy utilizing stealth to get into a good position before going loud and scaring the shit out of my digital foes for the few seconds they have left.

I would like to extend a thank you for introducing me to a new song that i like.

For me, being sneaky must have at the very least some cool kills (example being knifing unexpecting people on BC2) and normally should end in something going boom in a spectacular display of pyrotechnics.

Silenced. Unless its a gatling gun.

But silencers don't work so well in real life like they do in the movies.

Depends on the game, that said I feel stealth is ironically being overdone, as such I tend to think wading in with heavy duty hardware is fun.

In most games given the option stealth/sniping/etc.. is the way to go and what I choose given the option. However I think there is something to be said for the whole powerd armor and heavy weapon approach to conflict resolution and when made equally viable it tends to be a bit more entertaining for me at least. It's just that most games nowadays focus on such a small scale, that small scale tactics fit the situations you face better.
