Loud and proud, although I am usually a stealth person. Actually it's loud and proud with snipers and silenced and sneaky with sub machine guns.

*invents a silenced shotgun*
Mossberg beat ya to it bud.

Depends on what mood I'm in.
After finishing "Dreamfall: The Longest Journey" I really wanted some loud and proud guns (and I wanted to eat shoot them too).

Silenced, there is nothing more satisfying to me in an FPS than to take down an opponent without them ever having known I was there. Also silence causes chaos among enemy teams. Especially among the enemies closer to the person you just took down.

who doesnt value the element of surprise? its just strategically more sound to make the opponent fear something they cant find than use shock and awe which looses effectiveness the minuet they figure out what you are. And if discovered being sneaky, you potentially can still relocate and start again.

This is kind of implying that there are a lot of FPSes with good stealth systems.

I liked the silenced pistol in goldeneye and perfect dark because of the nice "pew pew" sound effect, however.
Ah, see? THESE are the games I grew up with. GoldenEye & Perfect Dark.

Due to the nostalgia factor, I'll use silenced. In every game I can, I'll use silenced weapons. But not in the Call of Duty series because:
1) Range and power (power to me, anyway) are lessened.
2) It doesn't make the classic "pew pew" noise, it makes "puff puff" noises instead.

EDIT: Also, what the hell happened to my sniper rifle? GoldenEye and Perfect Dark had the most kick-ass snipers ever (in my opinion, anyway).

I'll explain in case you didn't play either of those games, or if you're a "new gamer" (gamers who became gamers in the sixth-generation era of consoles) GoldenEye and Perfect Dark had pin-point accuracy, had a good amount of rounds per magazine, "customizable" (for lack of a better term) zoom, and were silenced all the time.

Now, most snipers are loud (Halo, Call of Duty, etc), one or two degrees of zoom (again, Halo and CoD), and are loud.

Sorry, just needed to get that off my chest.

I miss my sniper...

One of the few people on here, but loud and proud man. I mean sure, silence is strategically sound, but for me there's nothing more fun than just charging into a room with no plan and seeing how long you can last

Whichever has the faster rate of fire.

I'm not a one shot kinda guy. I like speed. But silencers on if there's no difference!
Its all fun and games with this strategy... until you have to pay for ammo

I'll take one of each. I like to lure people to me with my LOUD bang bang bang and then silently take them down when the try to find me.

Actually, now that I think about it, run'n'gun with a silenced weapon.

WTF?

What I mean is, in GoldenEye (best example I can give, but I've been overusing GoldenEye lately..) in the Frigate level, you are given the silenced DK5 Deutsche (MP5K for you MW2 players). I would use this gun in every game if they gave me that option. Y'know, kill anyone in my way, with this silenced weapon.

Very mood dependent and game dependent, but on the whole if there's the option, has to be silenced, why draw unnecessary attention to yourself?

Depends... like in Counter-Strike? No. The difference it makes is insane. The damage hardly does anything and people will notice that they're being shot in time to kill you even if you get them in the back of the head. Chances are that you'll get killed if you silence it. Other games where you can actually kill someone with a silenced gun then yeah, I love being sneaky.

i'd prefer to actually have stopping power. unsilenced for me thanks.

or likely just a sound suppressor yet still use full strength ammunition - won't be quiet with the sonic crack but at least muzzle flash and recoil are suppressed.
