Being somewhat older than the average gamer (almost 35) I was wondering how many of us share their playtime with some "significant others".

I for sure try to go all coop with my wife as often as possible, but often I understand that she plays for my enjoyment more then hers.
A noble (and fun) sacrifice but still a sacrifice.

What are your experiences?

I play solo because I have no significant other. When I do, we probably will play together. And I will contain my rage...

My cat frequently gets me killed by walking across the keyboard or just sits directly in front of the screen and staring at me in that vaguely disaproving way cats have.

Well, that's not one of my abilities for sure. And it IS a problem when playing with a missus. ;-)

Oh yeah, I forgot pets in the poll. Maybe with Kinect that's a distinct possibility.

I can't vote. My girlfriend though. But I've not proposed and nor has she so she's my de facto partner rather than fiancee.

My fault: what I meant was indeed "girlfriend", not official "fiancée".
English not being my mother tongue bites me here and there, sorry. ;-)

I'm gonna edit so you can vote in a few minutes.

Maybe you should put in an option for plain and simple 'significant other'. It's a gender-blind term and vague enough to cover all possible relationships, including same-sex couples.

Anyway, I like playing with my girl. Depending on the game, convincing her to actually do it is entirely another matter, since she tends to get frustrated because of the wide gap in our respective skill levels. More casual stuff works out fine though.

Cheers. I voted now.

I only play when I'm bored and have nothing else needing attention. So solo for me most the time. Occasionally I will play something with roomate or best friend, time-permitting.

When i was a nipper i used to play co-op with my father.

Now i play singleplayer because i'm a misanthrope and don't trust anybody.

That was a good one. I'm afraid now it's a little too late, I'd screw up all the votings...
I'm trying to fix it up tough, tnx. ;-)

I've only played with friends, siblings or alone. Although I have started dating a guy that has a Steam account and a DS. So I imagine it is possible that we might play videogames together at some point in the future...

I play as many games as possible with my wife. We like the Dungeon Crawler diablo style games, and are anxiously waiting for Torchlight 2 and Dungeon Siege 3.

Also the game coming out soon Hunted seems to target couples as a game to play together (one female and one male character) although obviously not exclusively I think the intent is there.

I enjoy playing games with my boyfriend more than playing by myself, I enjoy watching him play games too, especially if they have a good story :)

I usually play alone, but every now and then I play split-screen with one of my friends or my sister. It's fun. My recklessness in split-screen can lead to hilarious situations.

It can also lead to confusing situations when you forget which side of the screen is your's, or you're so busy watching their screen you fail to notice a mortar round flying at your head.

...

That's what happens to me anyway

OT: I prefer playing alone, because I have no wish to reveal my rage in front of other people.

It happens to me even with unsplit-screen titles: "oh, are you saying I was NOT the blue guy but the red one? shhhhhhhh...."

:-D
