I must have spent almost as much time playing splitscreen on my PS2 as I did alone. I had 2 or 3 really good gaming buddies and we'd be at each others' houses every other day so I'd call myself a splitscreen veteran.
It doesn't quite translate across onto consoles this generation, with no quality splitscreen games I hardly ever have people come to mine to play any more, and I don't like playing online with friends as much, it's just not as fun.

But every now and then me and a really good friend get together for 3 or 4 day marathons of TimeSplitters 2 and other games, though those only tend to be once or twice a year

My girlfriend and I play together, but only during co-op games. I'm really glad that she's a gamer, not just a girlfriend I force to play games with me. It's getting harder and harder to find good co-op games that are split-screen rather than strictly internet multiplayer. We get rather frustrated about that.

We have the PC with a 27 inch HDTV as a monitor about a foot away from the 46 inch HD monstrosity that we use for the console games. We often game on our own, but we're able to sit right next to each other. It's pretty nice.

I keep trying to convince her that we need a projector so I can toss the 27 inch and make the 46 inch HD the new computer monitor. She won't let me. She keeps jabbering about "It costs too much," or, "We don't NEED one, you just want one," or, "We're out of groceries and dog food, how about we focus on those things?"

Stupid girlfriends and their damn logical priorities.

You have no siblings option. I usually do single player, but I do enjoy co-op if the opportunity arises.

My girlfriend and I spend hours taking turns watching/playing KOTOR/KOTOR2 and other RPGs. For us, those games work best.

Being somewhat older than the average gamer (almost 35) I was wondering how many of us share their playtime with some "significant others".

I for sure try to go all coop with my wife as often as possible, but often I understand that she plays for my enjoyment more then hers.
A noble (and fun) sacrifice but still a sacrifice.

What are your experiences?
you forgot to add sibling to your poll

i have 1 brother and i sometimes play with him, hes 13 so it depends how hard puberty is hitting him...

That's right, again. Most defective poll ever! :)

I wish I could play more coop. My gf doesn't game, really. Plus she's super busy with some of her upcoming PhD stuff, and then gets... frustrated? that I can spend so much time gaming and "wasting time". Ugh sometimes it's pretty annoying.

Anyway, on the very rare occasion she'll give a game a try. She did like Assassin's Creed 2 a LOT (after I beat it she went and got platinum) and she played the Sims 3 a bit during the holidays... that's about it. I've been playing GT5 lately on PS3 and she did do a couple races with me at first, and last night she wanted to give a race a try using my wheel. So it's not like she totally doesn't game, but just very very rarely.

Growing up I had 2 older sisters, who played a little bit of NES (I liked to watch back then) and then I took over during SNES days, and really have been gaming alone my whole life. Maybe that's why I always focus on SP instead of MP for most games? Although I do play online sometimes with friends, it's pretty rare.

Well, in my experience I found that I definitely prefer co-op with my ex-girlfriend (now wife ^^) when I got her to game with me: competitive isn't really a match, since I have poor skills but not as poor as hers... ;-)
She gets frustrated, the only option being I let her win on purpose, and that's not cool.

We are slowly enjoying Dead Nation co-op right now, but she's afraid to go ahead (we've beaten half the levels I think), since it's getting more and more difficult, also playing at normal difficulty.
