With Skyrim, I put about 5 hours in to the game before giving into the encumbrance command prompt:
player.modav currentweight 9000

Personally I find it a chore to have to inventory manage. Since there is no time pressure placed on the player, I see no tactical advantage as to why these encumbrance systems are so unforgiving to begin with.

Are you annoyed by encumbrance in Bethesda games or embrace it's realism?
Do you feel they add to the gaming experience in a meaningful way?
Do you cheat so you have more time to play the actual game?

While on the topic of command prompts, are there any other cheats you use on your first playthrough? (the above is the only one I use)

No, I don't cheat at all.
And I don't have the encumbrance problem. I have the skill that makes heavy armor weightless, and I have a few enchants that increase my total weight limit to well over 400.

I just dump everything in one of my many, many, MANY bases scattered across Skyrim after every 3-5 dungeon dives.

I am struggling with the encumbrance limit, but there have always been these types of limits in fantasy games. The limit just represents a different type of challenge from swinging an axe. Right now I'm caught between some witches and a dragon, so I've got bigger problems.

Yeah this is what I do, but it can be annoying if I'm like carrying 10 dragon bones and 10 dragon scales. Having to go back and forth to the Arch-mage quarters can get somewhat annoying too, but not a big deal really.

I found it annoying since Oblivion, but accepted that it was a legitimate game mechanic and dealt with it. It's part of the challenge, I recommend you learn to live with it. Buy a house, store your shit there, live genetically different, baby.

Not a problem for me. I just chose what to carry. I take good swords over armor as they have a lower weight but still give a hefty amount of gold. Same foes for helmets. Taking whole pieces of armor to carry is ok, but weights too much. A good example of this is when you are facing a bunch of guys (you know if you have) and they keep dropping silver swords. They weigh 10 and have a value of 100. Iron Helmets have a value of about 60, and weight about 5.

It's all about what you chose to carry. To shed more weight I always make a bunch of random potions to find out what ingreadients might do. I then sell the potions for more money. Chucking it on a companion is always an option. Very easy to do too as they'll follow you around.

If you're still struggling, try investing skill points into Heavy / light armor (which every you use) to lower the weight.

Gameplay hot tip: If you constantly pick up armor, then you are gonna get encumbered.

I am fine with it. I enjoy inventory management. I shouldn't be able to loot every single item I see and carry it all with me. It is also why I like keeping a companion with me. I also wish I could use my horse as an inventory also to carry more items back to town.
I do miss my strength attribute, to make it easier to raise my carry rate.

Annoying? Yes. Justified? Also yes. Don't know many folks with the strength, nor the backpack space, to carry around twenty sets of armour but the game lets you do it anyway. Twenty-one sets of armour on the other hand? Wooooah, that's just TOO much!

I love the fact this person made an account just to poke fun at the OP.

Not as annoyed as with previous Bethesda and Elder Scrolls games. I find this one's the easiest to deal with of the bunch. Not too taxing, but not too easy. Just about right to make me think carefully about what I take and whether that iron sword is actually worth its weight.

Nope. One of the advantages of light armor is that it weights practically nothing. In fact, having gone heavy in Oblivion I was surprised at how much I could actually hold.

I haven't even had to deal with over-encumbrance yet, possibly because I only pick up things I use or that have a value worth carrying back to town. It might be because my many many hours with the Bethesda RPGs have trained me to get used to this, but I quite like a limit on inventory.

For one, it means you can't just pick up every enemy's weapon and armor for vendor trash since items are measured by weight. It's not only more realistic, but it makes you actually think when picking up loot.

My two cents anyway, I just couldn't imagine not having a weight system, being able to carry 80 broadswords and whatnot.

I really hate that shit. I can absorb the soul of a dragon but I can't carry more than 325 in weight value?

I just collect the gold and valuable weapons and then sell them in the first Hold I happen to find myself in.

I'm a bit annoyed with it since I've been pretty much pick pocketing everyone and stealing everything I come across and I can't sell the stuff because its "stolen", how in the blue hell any shopkeeper can tell baffles me, and I don't have a home so I can't store the stuff, and if I drop the stuff on the ground either a guard comes rushing up to me telling me that it is dangerous to leave weapons and armor laying on the ground and fines me (the first time it was insanely amusing because I must have dropped like 20 daggers and other weapons all at the same time and the guard ran up to be and wanted like a 1,000 gold fine, and I was like wtf and had to reload the game.)
So yea it can be annoying, especially when I start looting bandits in a dungeon and have to run back out to sell the stuff, and then run all the way back through the dungeon to get the rest of the loot, and when I have to repeat this more than twice I get a bit annoyed.

lol

Having never thought of that, I can kill more than 6 enemies before returning to town...thanks!

*mental note* Don't pick up armor, focus instead on two handed weapons and troll skulls.

The encumbrance in other Elders Scrolls games was much lower, (unless you started with a high strength) so I'm not complaining.

In Oblivion, I always played a character who was adept, if not masterful, in all things magic, so whenever I needed to, I could always cast Feather and continue on to a shop to sell my loot.

I'm taking the opposite approach in Skyrim. I've left the magic casting to those deceitful Altmer; I'm cleaving through Dragon and Legion alike as a bearded Nord with a battleaxe the size of a wagon!

But regarding the encumbrance system, I've never been one to let his inventory get out of hand, so even without magical aid, I've been able to keep well under the encumbrance limit. I've never had any complaints with the encumbrance system in any of TES games, or any of Bethesda's games where it's been implemented.

In fact, I think it adds another layer of depth to the game that otherwise wouldn't be there. There have been many times where I've dropped a few excess potions or weapons so I could carry a valuable item and came to regret it later on.
