So I'm gonna pre-order Skyrim today, but I just started thinking.. My computer is 2 years old and probably won't handle Skyrim very well.
The big pull towards PC is MODS! MODS, MODS, MODS! I can't get enough mods when it comes to Beth. games.
But I have a PS3 and a 42" plasma TV and it would be awesome to see those dragons on it.

PS3: Better graphics. Will run better. Giant screen. No mods :(. More expensive (15 bucks or so).
PC: Mods. Probably won't run very well. I like PC better when it comes to these games (Haven't played any bethesda games on it though). PC is cheaper.

My computer spec (ASUS Notebook N50Vn):
4 GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz 2.27 GHz
32-bit system
Windows Vista
Nvidia GeForce 9650M GT

Can You Run It said it passed minimum, but didn't go much further.

So.. Any ideas?

Hm, normally in such a scenario, PC is always and obviously the only choice. . . but your circumstance is pretty rough. I guess it depends on how particular on visuals and performance you are. If you don't mind lowest possible specs, and regular FPS drops, definitely PC; if that's too much to ask, however, get the PS3 version and wait either for the GOTY or til you get a beefier PC.

Switch vista to 7 and you'll be fine. Also your specs are above the recommended even a bit you'll be fine. But get it on PC for mods, also you can upgrade components of your PC making it stay viable for much longer than a console.

Also... my computer is 4 years old and it is doing just fine. Hell it even ran DE:HR on slightly below max settings (PP off) and worked just fine.

So get a PC, because you can do more with it than you can ever do with a console. (Just because of the fact you can upgrade it's components and they do not have to be changed every months, you will do just fine if you upgrade every 1-2 years. With medium priced components my computer cost me ~400? and then new GPU 80? 2 years ago. It does just fine, even with 2 screens on it.

I'd say PS3, I'm getting it on PS3, because it's too tempting to cheat on the PC, plus I find myself more in-tune with my character when on PS3, on PC it feels too distant. Although I will be getting it on PC afterwards, just to make sure I don't miss out on the modding experience.

But how will Skyrim look on lowest settings? Better than Oblivion?

PC, because I just reinstalled Oblivion (for the millionth time) on my computer and played the crap out of many many mods. Morroblivion to be more precise.

There is a huge modding community on PC and I can guarantee that Skyrim is going to get a ton of free and awesome user-created content that you can easily access with your PC.

Also, stop wasting money on Console junk and invest it into a better PC. You'll then get something more functional and have better graphics than the now dated consoles.

It's a laptop. I know almost nothing about computers :p
Also, I'm afraid to switch to Windows 7 because I have a lot of stuff on this computer, and a lot of my friends had problems when upgrading from Vista to 7 (Sound not working, finger security thing not working etc. etc.)

I personally own a 360. and ive ordered skyrim on it. If you have a PC capable of running it better than your Ps3 can then go nuts on your PS3. otherwise go PC.

For this one I'm going to have to say PS3. Normally I would say PC, but having a smooth gameplay experience with decent graphics is more important than future modding prospects unless you intend to be playing this game for years, and even if you do, there's always DLC.

Also, if your PC couldn't run Skyrim very well as it is, it probably won't handle it well with a ton of mods.

. . . huh, you know, I bet it probably will. Oblivion looked like shit, so. . . wow, you really flipped my entire perspective on the game on its head, gg, go for PC.

Your PC will be fine, with the possible exception of the Graphics card, though it might be good enough. I'd have to check up on that.

Also, PS3 having better graphics is a joke. I predict low on PC will be normal on PS3, and the max resolution is far lower than that of a PC game (From memory it can't even reach 1024 resolution) So IMO that TV screen will just exhaggerate this fact, I may be wrong though.

Besides, you can always upgrade your PC later for not a lot of money and keep using Mods and such, where as you can't actually upgrade a console if you want to play it with higher settings.

Also, even if you do think the PS3 will look better for some reason, Gameplay over Graphics any day, and Mods add a lot to gameplay.

I'd definitely go for PC as I don't like the look of a lot of the content so there is only one way to fix it....

It's a laptop. Can you even upgrade that?

The command console will at least double the game's play value, so I'd say PC. I'm getting it for my new monster rig for PC so that's what I'd recommend. As long as you can run it without much lag then it's probably worth getting for PC.

normally i would say pc. im not a big fan of everyone that constantly touts pc over console...BUT Bethesda games are FAR FAR better on the pc. i compared my fun with fallout 3 on both and have to say the pc is far more fun. but the reason i wont be getting it on pc is my laptop is better than yours and it barely runs tf2 for some odd reason i always have an out opf date pc...anyways my point is get it on ps3 for now and when you get a better pc get it on that thats what i will be doing when i get my old 2008 gaming computer upgraded and outfitted with a legitimate copy of windows (long story and im not gonna tell it but i didnt do anything wrong and one of my friends is a complete jackass and another person i know is an incompitant moron)

Nobody knows, the game ain't out and we did not receive review copies yet either so :p

Anyway, back on topic.
I'm getting both eventually. For xbox & PC that is.
Yeah you want to laugh, I know.
But I also own Morrowind + Expansions in 3 forms
Oblivion + Expansions in 2 forms
So yeah it would make sense x3
