Switch vista to 7 and you'll be fine. Also your specs are above the recommended even a bit you'll be fine. But get it on PC for mods, also you can upgrade components of your PC making it stay viable for much longer than a console.

Also... my computer is 4 years old and it is doing just fine. Hell it even ran DE:HR on slightly below max settings (PP off) and worked just fine.

So get a PC, because you can do more with it than you can ever do with a console. (Just because of the fact you can upgrade it's components and they do not have to be changed every months, you will do just fine if you upgrade every 1-2 years. With medium priced components my computer cost me ~400? and then new GPU 80? 2 years ago. It does just fine, even with 2 screens on it.
It's a laptop. I know almost nothing about computers :p
Also, I'm afraid to switch to Windows 7 because I have a lot of stuff on this computer, and a lot of my friends had problems when upgrading from Vista to 7 (Sound not working, finger security thing not working etc. etc.)
Why don't you just reform it and install it on a clean HDD? Why do you go and upgrade? There is always complications with that. Also your friends might be missing the drivers required for those 2 works, they might not be present on the windows upgrade system or not coded for 7 yet. I myself find that it works better than the Vista I had for total of 6 hrs on my laptop (I got laptop and PC)

And not knowing about computers is no excuse, you can always read up on it and learn. It is all very much available you via Wikipedia and Google.

My PC is getting on in years too. But I'm not worried.

I'd advise you to get it for the PC.

Yes, it's possible, it might be not as easy as upgrading a Pc and depends heavily on the manufacturer, but it's possible.

Besides, your specs should be enough to play it, and if you want a bigger screen, you can always connect your laptop to your Tv.

I'm in the same situation. My PC are just at the min. requirements to run it but I don't believe I can run it well considering I run Oblivion and both FO3 and NV like crap. So i pre-ordered for PS3, gonna pirate on PC to test if it's working and if it does I'll buy it for the PC too because Bethesda is worth it ;>

I'm getting it for PS3 because my PC is a hopeless piece of crap and I don't care about mods, but you do seem to care, so even if it's graphically a little inferior to a PS3 version for you, I'd still say get it for PC. It has just more options and if you ever get a better PC, it will look much better anyway.

That's a bit of a debate, I'm getting it for PC since Bethesda has always had a great modding scene for all of their games and this makes updates last well past the point that Bethesda stops doing them for us.

don't know how PS3's stack up in all honesty, they're standard and unchanging so it will probably run more consistently overall but at the same time its less fun for those of us that want to completely break the game for shits and giggles.

So I'm gonna pre-order Skyrim today, but I just started thinking.. My computer is 2 years old and probably won't handle Skyrim very well.
The big pull towards PC is MODS! MODS, MODS, MODS! I can't get enough mods when it comes to Beth. games.
But I have a PS3 and a 42" plasma TV and it would be awesome to see those dragons on it.

PS3: Better graphics. Will run better. Giant screen. No mods :(. More expensive (15 bucks or so).
PC: Mods. Probably won't run very well. I like PC better when it comes to these games (Haven't played any bethesda games on it though). PC is cheaper.

My computer spec (ASUS Notebook N50Vn):
4 GB RAM
Intel Core 2 Duo P8400 @ 2.26GHz 2.27 GHz
32-bit system
Windows Vista
Nvidia GeForce 9650M GT

Can You Run It said it passed minimum, but didn't go much further.

So.. Any ideas?
NO! Whatever you do, not PS3. Bethesda has a TERRIBLE record when it comes to ps3 ports. You are making a big-ass assumption about it "running better". Just take a moment to examine the track record:
http://kotaku.com/5072534/ps3-fallout-3-a-bit-broken
http://www.gamespot.com/forums/topic/25542701
And to top matters off the development platform was the 360. At least on PC anything Bethesda misses (and they always miss a lot) will be fixed by a fan patch or several.

I would say go PC and maybe one day you'll have a computer that can run it in all of it's splendor. Should that day arrive your in progress save games will be waiting to meet their new home, via the flash drive to paradise.

well, graphically there wont be allot of difference the ps3 will probably pull ahead of your pc by a little bit due to the nutty amount of optimisation that goes into the console versions just to make it run smoothly ( and you are right on min-spec too )

so, if you cant upgrade your graphics card your best experience right now would be your ps3
definitely

but, you wont have the huge modding experience that pc users likely will later

your choice is, run minspec and get a ton of mods later plus it will scale with your system over time and ultimately look slightly better

or, get it looking reasonably pretty right now, and have less stuff later

i'd go for your pc, personally it will probably look less pretty to begin with but it can only ever improve. and it will mature with unofficial mods later

tough choice, i know you want it to be 900% epic when you first turn it on i know the feeling :p

i'm getting it for pc myself, just fyi :p

The problem is, that the best mods are usually pretty demanding in their own right, so if you can barely run the game, then I'd stick to consoles.

You could save up for a better rig or just a new card and get the GOTY edition next year as well.

Get an HDMI cord, plug your PC into your TV. If you like PS3 controllers, I'm sure there is a peripheral that will work with your PC - if not, there is certainly 360 ones that do.

Sure, graphics will be worse, but with the insane length of time you'll be playing Skyrim because of mods, I'd presume you could save up enough money to upgrade your graphics card if you decide graphics are worth it after playing the game for awhile.

Honestly, coming from someone who bought a gaming PC (which only gave me subpar graphics, though I've since upgraded because I love PC gaming that much - GTX590 represent) after playing Oblivion on my 360 for years, I can say that mods are more important than graphics.

Although, I have to agree with the poster above me. Mods can be pretty demanding for your PC, so that could be a concern.

I'm in almost the exact same situation as you and I chose PS3 due to my laptop not passing recommended specs, and the fact that I need to connect it to my monitor, (laptop screen is quite small), where the PS3 is already connected. I did use mods for Morrowind and Oblivion, but I'm hoping Skyrim won't need them as much (main reason in Oblivion was the level scaling issues). Besides, getting mods for Oblivion often meant I had to scrap my character, meaning I'd never get that far because I found a new, yummy mod. With Skyrim on PS3 I can concentrate on just playing. :)

With a computer like that I'd go for the PS3 version. I think many people voting are forgetting to read the OP.

PC for mods and the likelihood that you will have a better PC in the future. Your game experience has room to improve. Minimum doesn't mean "only just playable"

Your GPU is two generations ahead of the GPUs in a PS3 and Xbox 360. Both these consoles can run Skyrim at an acceptable level. Yes the PC is less efficient than the consoles due to the presence of an API in between the game engine and the hardware but two generations brings a lot of raw power. I wouldn't be surprised if your PC runs at a similar quality to both consoles. PC games have high recommended specs because they can make use of features like anti-aliasing which are very demanding on hardware. Any developer would highly recommend you turn on to make their game look better.

Your PC will be fine, with the possible exception of the Graphics card, though it might be good enough. I'd have to check up on that.

Also, PS3 having better graphics is a joke. I predict low on PC will be normal on PS3, and the max resolution is far lower than that of a PC game (From memory it can't even reach 1024 resolution) So IMO that TV screen will just exhaggerate this fact, I may be wrong though.

Besides, you can always upgrade your PC later for not a lot of money and keep using Mods and such, where as you can't actually upgrade a console if you want to play it with higher settings.

Also, even if you do think the PS3 will look better for some reason, Gameplay over Graphics any day, and Mods add a lot to gameplay.
It's a laptop. Can you even upgrade that?
You can do some upgrades, but not a lot. You can upgrade RAM, but that's about it. I would recommend you to upgrade your OS though. A 64 bit system will increase the capabilities of your hardware.

I'm getting it for 360 - I would most likely have to upgrade my PC to run it at any sort of playable rate, so I'm taking the easy option. If the PC mods become rediculously cool, then I will get it for PC, once it's more up to date.

Get it on PS3, and in a year or two maybe you'll get a new PC and it will be a perfect way to replay a patched up better looking game of the year version + mods that will probably be $20 by then.
