Pretty simple, really, there are purists out there who hate the addition of fast travel and there are some who think it's a useful tool. I think it's okay, I use it when I'm just too lazy to go from one place to another by foot, but I do try to explore as much as possible since we're given this massive, open world and it's a bit of a shame to just skip through it.

It is tempting, sometimes, to just skip the journey and go somewhere, but Morrowind had some decent ways of getting around and I think I preferred that as it made the experience a little richer because when you couldn't be teleported to a place, use recall or hop on a silt strider you were forced to walk which meant that you might accidentally run into a side quest or find a nice bit of loot you would've otherwise skipped with fast travel. Plus, sometimes it's just nice to take a stroll and look at the scenery.

However, that's just my opinion it's obviously different for different people. So, what's your opinion?

I really, really hope they include an option to turn it off, because if it's there, I lack the willpower to not use it, despite knowing full well that doing so will detract from the experience.

Especially when games go to the effort of putting stuff on and/or off the beaten path to make exploring worthwhile. I can't imagine how much content in Oblivion I missed because I simply couldn't be bothered walking somewhere when the fast travel option was right there.

I am more or less a purist, and try to use it as little as possible. Fast travel just kind of breaks my immersion in the game.

I did find Morrowind's fast travel acceptable though. It made more sense.

I'll probably attempt not to use it that often. I agree that Morrowind's way of doing things made for a better experience. I would like to see something like that again. Fast travel just seems so.... cheap

Depends. Late game, when I've explored most locations, and a mission requires me to go from one side of the massive map to the other, I just cannot be bothered to walk it all.

Probably the same way I used it on my first playthrough in Oblivion. If I'm going somewhere I've been before, and I'm coming from the same direction as before, so the route is the same. Otherwise I'll walk. And for those of you who lack the willpower to not use fast travel, I'm sure someone's going to make a mod that disables it almost instantly.

I'd prefer something like in Morrowind too, but it doesn't bother me that much.

I'll probably not use it too much, especially if I become a vampire. If not, I'll probably only use it when chasing a really gripping quest line. I can't wait to explore Skyrim though, and run into random spawning dragons.

To go slightly off topic, it's a bit of a shame you're sort of playing a "powerful chosen one" kind of guy. I liked that in Oblivion, aside from being in someone's dream you were just normal. There were people as powerful as you, and even more so. You weren't particularly special on the surface.

That said, the dragon shouts sound bitching.

The sad thing is I won't want to use it. I want to wander the countryside and find cool random stuff. But I get impatient and then next thing you know I'm teleporting from town to town like a starfleet officer.

Too bad fast travel wasn't something to the effect that Red Dead Redemption had. You could choose the pace at which you were going and enjoy the landscape and countryside, or skip the travel all together.

When I played oblivion I only ever used fast travel a handful of times, and by the time I had walked from the sewer gate to the city Anvil I was one of the richest sons of bitches in all of Nirn. And other then making exploring easier it also greatly increases playtime, and drops my mind down the bottemless pit of immersion. On top of all that it makes alchemy and athletic skills a breeze to level.

I'll probably only use it for long journeys and even then go to the nearest settlement and use it from there.

Fast travel is necessary. I don't care what you say. If you don't want it to be in the game, then just don't use it for god sake. It's not imperative that you have to use every function in the game.

But yeah, I will most likely use fast travel. In Oblivion I found there to be a lot of quests that have you trek back and forth to the same destinations. I'll most likely just use it for that. But if that criterion isn't met. Then I'll just walk around, and suck up the awesome scenery.

If I have to do another stupid talk and walk quest then I will be using it a lot. Remember all those quests in Oblivion where all you did was deliver messages between two people? You're the fucking champion of Cyrodil, not the Black Horse Courier.

I hope I don't have to use it due to Bethesda making a lazy, dull place.

I'm going to try not to use it. If it's anything like Morrowind, the scenery and dungeons would be worth the walk.

I hope there's a way to turn off fast-travel, though. It would surely help me not use it if I get bored and just want to get to the next place.

I'll be trying to avoid it tbh. I just hope small items such as diamonds are actually worth something so you don't have to make twenty trips just to make a bit of cash.

I would like it if they made it a little like Morrowind where you had mage teleports, silt striders and ships. They all didn't go to every place, you had to figure out how to get to places and it made it more immersive. The scenery was a lot more interesting too, which is hilarious considering the graphics.

If it's like Oblivion and you have to go back and forth on the same route just to do fetch quests then I'll probably use it, nothing really interesting about covering the same ground. Imperial City to Cheydinhal springs to mind. ><

I hear that it's using the FAllout "only places you've been to before" approach, rather than just "pop wherever you wanna go".

I think this is fine as it means if you wanna enjoy a walk you can but if you wanna just get somewhere rather than hoofing it for 5-20 mins depending on where you need to be you can just get on with it.

Personally i'll use it whenever it is useful to me, i.e. whenever i'm activly trying to get somewhere. But I think that much like oblivion i'll enjoy just going for a wander off into the wild for a while and seeing what i find, so i can fast travel to it later xD
