Ok boys and girls, riddle me this:

Me and my co-worker we're having an argument of which was better, MW3 or Skyrim. Just to clarify, he doesn't play video games and doesn't keep in touch with news in the game industry. His arguement was that because more people had heard of MW3(TV commercials, news, random internet pop-ups, etc.), that would make the game more popular, therefore it's better. I would say that just because a game gets rehashed every year doesn't make it better. It's about story and how emersed you become in the game is what makes it great. While I have nothing against it, MW3 (or almost any other COD for that matter) doesn't have that same greatness that Skyrim, Mass Effect, or Portal have(fyi: he's never heard of Portal or Mass Effect either). So now I'm creating a poll to either prove me right, or make me feel ashamed of my fellow gamers haha. So the question is, which in your opinion is the better game?

Just remember these 3 words:

FUS RO DAH!
Once again we're here with the "my opinion is better than your opinion" thread. Some people like ham, some people like turkey. Some people celebrate Christmas, some people celebrate something else, others don't celebrate at all.
In the end, there is no point to these topics, they serve no purpose except to prove some subjective (read: not fact but opinion) point or maybe just to stroke the OP's ego. Either way, Skyrim is good for those who enjoy it. MW3 is good for those who enjoy it. We can co-exist people. There is room in the world for both, because there will always be audiences for both things.

This is the funniest thread I have ever seen. I have read through this whole thread laughing so hard I lose my breathing abilities!

You just can't compare the two. They're both so different from each other in so many ways. It's not even apples and oranges, it's petunias and a sperm whale!

OT: considering how unnecessary this thread is, Ummmm... Marathon? Out of the two I would most certainly choose Skyrim but personally I think this thread came from the nether realm so yeah, Marathon.

EDIT: a prize to anyone who can tell me the reference

Neither way is the right way to tell which is better. Games are art and art is subjective. However:

-Skyrim has far more Base Content than MW3, and has had a longer development cycle and more work put into it.
-Skyrim on the PC does not look bad, and has some graphics options that will stress my old card. MW3 has very limited graphics options, severely limited AA, and looks quite mediocre compared to the other games I have recently acquired.
-The changes from Skyrim-Oblivion > The Changes MW2-MW3. More innovation is better, as otherwise it is honestly just the exact same game with a bit of a reskin. Sure a few things in MW3 changed, but the resounding feedback from critics, and the players I know alike is that it was far too similar to MW2 and basically every other CoD game to be justifiably called a new game.
-Both games have glitches and problems, including lag issues, rendering them unplayable for some.

However, if you want a very flawed argument, as flawed as the 'Its more known, therefore its better' argument (Which if that's true, Mario is probably the best game of all time); Metacritic User Score.

However, neither game is actually better than the other. One may be a better choice then the other for a certain individual, but neither is better without a subject for them to be compared to.

You can't compare a RPG to a FPS, that's not how it works. MW3 VS BF3 works, Skyrim Vs Oblivion works. but crossing genres and asking which one it better is stupid.
Actually, none of those comparisons work better than any others, as it is all subjective with the differences between them. Some will think BF3 is better due to its graphics, more tactical and team based gameplay, and the destruction, whilst others will think MW3 is better because it stresses the system less, has more individual focused gameplay with less tactics, and you know reliably what will and won't be cover for the rest of the game.

Same goes for Oblivion vs Skyrim. Some will find its changes to make things simpler and less time consuming better, whilst others will find that they no longer get as much enjoyment out of the game, and wish it had of stayed with its old systems.

It is also very possible to compare FPS to RPG. You compare similarities and differences, and which systems they share in common (They both have a graphics engine and a sound engine), the pacing of the game (MW3 is more fast paced than Skyrim) and other such things. However, you can not say which is better than the other as it is subjective.

Well since I haven't played either, I do not know. I am going to guess Skyrim, but that is because it is a large game with a lot of stuff to do, while Modern Warfare 3 has a 5 hour or so story and a multiplayer I am not too fond of.

Apples. And Oranges. Heard of it? Just say this whenever you hear the argument. It's obvious. They are both exactly as good as each other. People just enjoy one rather than the other. That said, i voted for Skyrim.

I don't think you can reasonably compare these two games. They are completely different styles trying to achieve different things to their audience.

Oh for fucks sake, this is not only a versus thread, it's a totally shit versus thread. You just cannot compare the two, outside of both being games. It's illogical. You want an online fast paced shooter? MW3. You want one of the best games of the year? Skyrim.
Ahh, but you see, you just answered his question. He isn't asking for a comparison, and which one is better. You labelled MW3 as simply an 'online fast paced shooter', and Skyrim as 'one of the best games of the year'. Technicalities!

Honestly MW3 has spawned less annoying fanboys than Skyrim has, so MW3, even though I haven't even played that damn game yet.
....does anyone else see anything wrong with this statement?

considering that MW3 is the highest grossing THING in existence, i would say it has more fans and (therefore fanboys) than Skyrim ever could.

the fact that you even haven't played the game just proves your ignorance.

YOU sir, are a MORON
I didn't say more fanboys, I said more ANNOYING fanboys. I'd rather listen to a 14-year old raving about his noscope super 1337 headshot one kill bullshit for a day than read one more arrow to the knee '''''''''''''''''''''joke'''''''''''''''''''' or hear one more argument why that broken, unimmersive piece of shit Skyrim should get Game of the Year.
Personally, I would rather listen to another Arrow to the Knee joke than see one more MW3 fanboy proclaim MW3 as the second coming of Christ, and the best game ever to grace the world. Yeah, there are some Skyrim fans who do that too, but from the number of fans of each the MW3 ones are far more numerous.

It also really depends on what you find annoying. I don't mind the Arrow to the Knee jokes so much, as they are meant as comedy, albeit very bad comedy (I used to be bad at comedy like...), whilst the Best game to grace the Earth sort of stuff is just plain arrogant.

I voted for MW3 simply because this is a completely silly question to ask. You're comparing one of the most loved games against one of the most hated, on these forums. Surely you knew this, yet you did it anyway. O_O Not to mention they're two completely different games with two completely different goals.

And it's not about the story and how immersed you become. It's about what you prefer. Many people don't play games for stories or immersion. Surely you knew this.

Biased OP is biased. Just saiyan.

In all seriousness though you can't say one game is better than the other. It all comes down to personal preference. I know a good amount of people who would choose Skyrim, and I know a good amount of people who would choose MW3. It all comes down to what you look for in a game. Like single player games with a good amount of depth? Choose Skyrim. Like games that have a huge focus on multi player? Choose MW3.

Can't get simpler than that.

There was a time when versus threads were highly frowned upon here.
As far as I know, that still applies.
But only if people bring the threads to their attention.

wait a second, 8 people actually think CoD is better than Skyrim? BWAHAHAHAHAHAHA!

That's... that's hilarious, I'm going to take a random guess and say that half of those 8 were singing the troll song when they chose, and the other half misclicked ;)

Let's all work really hard to keep this in the popular threads section!

Seriously though, I haven't played either game, but Skyrim's fans are bugging me more recently. I'm planning on getting Skyrim, but every single arrow to the knee joke or glitch story I hear makes me want it less and less.

You can't really have an objective debate between the two because they couldn't be more different. Skyrim is a sandbox, MW3 is linear, Skyrim is single-player, MW3 is mostly multiplayer, etc etc. It's kind of like comparing cupcakes and dirty pictures, both are excellent at what they fulfill but if your mind is dictating you want one the other one won't seem very appealing at the time.

I'm partial to Skyrim, if only because it has more options, paths and rewards for replay even if it wouldn't last as long as MW3's multiplayer would [insert Einstein's insanity quote here] - but that's because I like sandboxes more than linear games on the whole.
