One thing. The Empire lost to the Dominion. They do not rule any more and have to listen to them in what they want. Have you talk to any of the Thenmor(sp?) They are more racist then the nords and just to tell you, the nords arn't that racist. They just don't like elfs or outsiders much DUE to how the Empire and the Dominion are telling them what to do.

So its not their fault for getting piss off at the Empire. Its the Empire fault for giving up the fight to the Dominion and signing a treaty to basically say the Dominion can do whatever they want.

So I rather side with the semi-racist nords then the Tyrant Dominion and the lapdog of a empire.

I'm a very reluctant Stormcloak, uncomfortable with their "Skyrim for the Nords" philosophy, and I was distraught when I had to participate in the Whiterun siege since I really love the city and its Jarl. I fancy myself as Jarl Ulfric's pacifist mimsy councilor, but it's still better than siding with the sellout Empire and its elven puppetmasters.

while I'm going to end up supporting the imperials, that's not to say that I don't think the empire seriously needs to regrow its balls. this reminds me of something that was said in one of the game trailers: "skyrim needs the empire as much as the empire needs us." If the non-elven races of Tamriel have any hope of defeating the dominion, then they will need skyrim's help. After all if it wasn't for the nords, Alessia never would have succeeded n defeating the Ayleids and the first empire (or any of the other ones) would never have existed. Likewise, Skyrim would need the empire's help to fend off aldmeri expansion. I could ultimately support the idea of an independent skyrim, but I think seriously fighting off the Aldmeri Dominion is the more pressing matter. After they have been neutralized as a threat, then the provinces can discus the issue of self determination. Until then, they should remain united under one banner to fight their common foe.

Ulfric wouldn't have a snowball's chance in hell at beating the Dominion by himself. Only the Empire can. And it is called compromise. If Skyrim wants to beat the Dominion then they need to stop the infighting. And the Empire hates the Thalmor. They aren't loyal lapdogs. More suppressed hounds who would attack their master if given the chance.

So a common theme I am seeing from the discussion is that everyone hates the Thalmor right? So how can our characters just get rid of them? Is there even an option to? Anytime I see the Thalmor taking a prisoner away, or anywhere on the roads I make it a point to kill them out right. I went back to the embassy to see if I could round up a few more, but found that the place was in lock down, and there were invisible walls in place to keep me from jumping the fence.

I guess what I'm getting at if the opportunity to take the Thalmor on is not yet available, I would love to see it in an expansion that takes into account how you handled the civil war, so that the best choice for Skyrim may become clear.

Question. In the excitement I totally forgot what happened to the Jarl after the dragon attacks. So does the Jarl escape back to Windhelm?

I remember I escapes with the guy back to River something, then I started doing some exploring.

Also I really didn't like that the Jarl assassinated the High King. I don't know who I'll finally side with.

READ..................Every one against the empire says they hate them because of the chopping block at the start, the captain or the ***** that wanted to kill was a red guard so not even a proper imperial and dont forget her lieutenant who didn't want to kill you in the first place. He also lets you take basically everything from his house(how generous). the storm cloaks want a free skyrim sure, but at the cost of many good men(not mer) and even more nords, the best thing ulfric could have done is challenge the high king of skyrim to honorable combat in a public place, if he won he could have simply succeeded from the empire while still being strong allies and destroying all those bastard thalmor. this raises suspicion to me. ulfric said he beat the king in fair combat but there were no witnesses. a united empire is better for tamriel and maybe skyrim can claim independence after wards.

The empire didn't lose the great war, after lots of losses they regrouped hammerfell, highrock, cyrodiil and skyrim, a force not to be trifled with, and pushed the thalmor out of the imperial city and then cyrodill all together. the white gold concordant was a peace treaty signed by both the empire an the thalmor. its terms were harsh but would stop further bloodshed. hammerfell succeeded from the empire due to the terms and beat the thalmor back out of hammerfell, which makes me think that the thalmor could have been beaten but at what cost, the banning of a god in public is a small price to pay for thousands of saved lives, im sure thats what talos would have wanted, live to fight another day. Ulfric want to succeed from an empire his god founded what a giant hypocrite.

My primary motive, second to stopping the dragons of course, is to expel as much Aldmeri Dominion (Thalmor) influence from the empire as I can.
THEY seem to be the cause for the war by banning Talos worship after beating the already crippled Empire into submission and forcing them into a treaty.
I'm very neutral but I'm leaning slightly towards those Imperials even though I almost got beheaded for being at the wrong place at the wrong time (Or that captain was just a *****).
You'd think that by supporting the Empire, you are supporting the Dominion.

If Skyrim were to secede from the Empire (Choosing the Rebel side), that will leave it, after losing so many provinces, ripe for the taking by the Dominion which will eventually conquer all of Tamriel from within the Imperial Province.
If Skyrim were to stay as an Imperial Territory, The Empire will eventually gain enough strength to drive their High Elven "benefactors" back to Sumnerset Isle.

Also, if I were to completely choose, I wouldn't choose the Stormcloaks. No matter how much popularity he has or how good his intentions are, a usurper is a usurper and he should be brought to justice for throwing Skyrim into chaos.

i agree my main goal in my virtual skyrim life apart from killing dragons and ending a civil war is to kill all the thalmor i meet. i hope there will be a dlc were you get to completely wipe them out and just torch their embassies and kill all of there members, show then not to mess with skyrim =)
