Ive serached it and can't find any topics about it before anyone says anything, so, i was wondering, ive had my 360 a while and im thinking of getting a ps3, so i was wondering, which ps3 is better to get, slim or fat? Oh, and reasons why would be good, and any differences between the two, apart from the looks :)

Edit: I don't care about the looks or weight
Double Edit!: Im not fussed about backwards compatability either, but still good info

I actually have to vote for the fatter unit on the sole condition that you're able to get one with proper hardware (non-emulated) backwards compatibility.

Can you put PS3 in the title please? It's currently rather misleading.

On Topic: The cheapest.
Sorry, thought it being on gaming discussion would do :)

They are both the same price, and the fats in store dont have backwards compadability anyways, so i guess the slim.

It would if I went through forum indexes, I just sit on the homepage and look at the "Latest Posts" bit.

Fair enough :)
Anyway, i read on some obscure gaming site..or..something..anyway, it said that the slim had slightly different firmware and less features, now, apart from the lack of backwards compatability i thought it was BS, but confirmation would be nice.

Slim, uses (quite a lot) less power, so cheaper in the long term.

Other than that and lookst there's little real difference between the slims and fats in stores at the moment.

Am I right in thinking that the slim has a faster 45nm CPU under-clocked so that it runs cooler at the same speed as the fat one?

I don't really care. I'm never buying one, I was just interested from a technical perspective...

The Slims have fewer USB ports, and none of the card readers that the Fats do.

They no longer make any backwards compatible PS3's. So slim = fat in that department.

The slim PS3's on the market atm are 120GB, I don't know for sure what the fats are but last I checked they were 80GB. So slim > fat here.

The slim PS3 obviously takes up less space. Slim > fat there.

The look is down to personal preference. The fat has a shinier finish but easily attracts fingerprints etc. Slim = fat here due to personal preference.

Personally, I'd go with the slim, my friend got one for £249.99 and he got Little Big Planet with it free.

I actually voted fat though, because I thought the poll was asking what PS3 I have. The reason I have a fat is because I got it way back before the slim came out, mines one of those special 60GB backwards compatible ones. :)

Yeah both are priced the same now, sooooo....yeah.

Anyway, I'm a practical kind of guy, and the Slim has the most practical advantages over the fat PS3, so I'll go for the Slim.

i'm going to say the slim cause they made some improvements to the audio chips so it does some high def sounds a bit better

i would have said the fat but it doesn't have the bc and you don't care about that. you can still upgrade the hard drive so the only difference really is the audio chip and the slim has a better one

No it doesn't. Just who posted last and when and how many replies there are in total.

Thanks for all the reply's :D Just to add a little extra, the comments on the website i looked at earlier said about the slim having a slower CPU or somthing, sounds like BS, and completley contradicts what Uncompetative said, oh, and what are card readers? (what Koeryn mentioned)
