Okay, maybe this is a bit to personal for you to answer, or maybe your comfortable with it, but what size are you?

Maybe this is me just being self consious, but recently I made a shopping trip to Old Navy to make use of an ancient gift card. Now, I'm 140 pounds, 5'6 - a complete average weight and height for a person of my age and gender if the US Medical Association is to be believed (You know that growth line chart at the doctors, I am RIGHT on it). I don't think myself to be very pudgy but I could barely fit into a size Large!

And when I checked, the so called 'smalls' were barely enough fabric to cover my niece who is 7 years old! Who were they designing these clothes for? Anorexics? The weirdest part was that when I looked again the sizing scale went up to a full 2XXL. Where is the logic in this? Is our country so misbalanced that either your a shapeless stick child; or beach land whale who likes to wear camisoles? (I am so sorry if that offended anyone, really.)

SO what are your thoughts? Do you think obesity in younger ages is a real problem? Do you think clothing stores carry some sort of stigma to people who carry a bit more weight? Or do you just think that these 'standard' sizes are maybe a reflection of a media "what-you-SHOULD-look-like?" standard?

(This thread is not meant to offend anyone. Really. Really really.)

I'm about 5'9 and 9.5 stone (no idea what that is in pounds)

I have the same waist measurement as the girl I sit next to in class.

So yeah, I'm a small-very small.

EDIT: Did not realise this is a pole for women...I'll just let myself out...

Same problem for tall people.

Its a pain in the arse to find a good pair of jeans with a long leg instead of regular.

XXL. Although that is entirely for the length.

However, that's only for shirts. Pants are always measured in units (like inches here in the States) for men to the best of my knowledge. But I would guess that I would still be a XXL there, since I take a 34x36 or 36x36, depending on where I get them.

I would love to give you an answer, but here in Britain women's clothes vary so much from store to store that in some a Medium would swamp me and in others a XLarge would barely fit over my chest. So, I can't say. Generally I'm about a 16 on top and 14 on bottom, which is fairly average for the country. So now someone just needs to tell the clothes shops to make clothes that fit us average women!

/rant.

6'1". 165 lbs no matter what I eat or how much I work out, though fat's becoming muscle slowly.

I wear large loosely, and medium when snugly.

I believe that obesity is largely genetic, while diet and exercise cannot be ignored.

Luckily*, I have a living example in my family.

One of my step-dads had a child with my fat mom, who was fat himself.

My fat mom and skinny dad produced a tall, skinny guy; me. My fat mom and one of my fat step-dads had a child. She's amazingly fat for her age though she has access only to the same foods as the rest of the kids, 8 others, who are ALL slim, as per their fathers.

*I do feel bad for genetically fat people though.

What in Gods name is a stone? By the way, I live in the US (go ahead, make a cheeseburger joke or something. We still have Hawaii. Jealous?) so maybe this is a 'Supersize' Nation thing (great movie by the way).

Also it appears in posting this, I forgot the majority of you all are boys and care as much about weight as you do about shopping for shoes. Which you can never have too many of. =.= Guys can be fat and still be accepted, but if a girl carries too much weight, theirs this stigma about her being a pig or the like.
