Definitely, or at-least undoubtedly the best animated. My only complaint is that after about half-an-hour of running around he failed to incinerate a single dwarf, which doesn't exactly give the menacing impression he deserves. Still, hopefully he'll cause some fatalities in the third film. Also, in before pedantic "he's a wyvern, not a dragon, because he's got the wrong number of legs, ruined4ever!" complaints.
"If it looks like a duck, walks like a duck, swims like a duck, sounds like a duck, then it is in fact a duck"

I don't know, to me, it's sort of like saying:

"That's not a dog! That's a corgi!"

OT: I definitely liked Smaug that's for darn sure. Not sure if he's the best cinematic dragon though. I haven't watched enough movies involving dragons to be a good judge on that.

I'm putting in another vote for Dragonslayer. Vermithrax was just magnificent, especially given the technology they had available at the time.

I really can't decide. Sean Connery's Draco left too strong an impression on my childhood self for me to dismiss. Smaug's great at what he does, but he's really one of the originators of the tired "Fire-Breathing Greedy Asshole" stereotype, which is something even D&D campaign settings rarely deviate from.

I don't care that this discussion is referencing a modern representation of this classic figure - it's really just another FBGA to me. Draco by default, then? If I had to even earlier than that, I'd have to mention Sir Loungealot from Monty Python's "Blazing Dragons", Sir Nigel from "Dragon Tails" or, heck, Disney's "Pete and the Dragon" or even "The Reluctant Dragon".

Yeah. I guess I'm really not interested in the standard fare, as good as Benedict Cumberbatch's interpretation objectively was.

Edit: Oh, and I completely forgot Paarthurnax. Best video game dragon ever, hands down.
