I usually snipe in games. I take a stealthy approach. For example, opening level of Halo 3? When you reach the base where Johnson is being held? I wait on the cliff, use a stolen Covenant Carbine to pick off all the Kig-Yar snipers and as many Jiralhanae as I can before I'm notcied, then move in and deal with the first few Unggoy to attack me before returning to my sniping post. Easiest way to finish that part :)

Also, quick scopers can go fuck off and die.
Can someone please explain this train of thought to me? It's as if people think quick scoping is cheap or something. It's the only thing in MW2 that requires any sort of skill at all.

I snipe about 75% of the time in Call of Duty, and I was the designated sniper for my team back when I played Halo.
Quick-scoping makes snipers a close range class as well as a long range one, in that you're getting rid of the only weakness snipers have; that they SHOULDN'T be effective at close range, ever.

Their useful in certain situations, such as protecting a point from afar and picking off enemies to clear the way. The role is much needed although annoying when you are on the recieving side of the bullet.

I tend to snipe every now and then when I can't get close enough to use an assualt rifle or other gun.

My favorite class in TF2. Unfortunately, I always join a team with 4 snipers and end up being the only medic

Sniping is just another method of killing in an FPS...if you don't like it, then go cry in a corner and don't play the game anymore. Otherwise, deal with it, learn from it, and try not to make yourself such a welcoming target.

I'll be sure to find siffty and have his head in my sights for a good, long while.

Also...why do I snipe? I prefer to take things slow, and cautiously...this makes me a good infiltrator and scout, not to mention being good at sniping of course. Let the others shoot each other in the face with a shotgun; I'll take the careful route, thank you.

I usually either counter-snipe or stealth around and unload into people's backs and then disappear again. I hold that if the game's 1v1 I'll fight you openly, otherwise I'll eschew that and try to assassinate people.

Sniping isn't something to diss. Sometimes a decent sniper can be the lynchpin to victory.

The problem is that sniping is hard to pull off in most games to the newcomer, who would then shun the sniper as someone who is a cheapskate, not able to 'play the game proper'. However, who is the guy who covers your ass as your run down the street, moving from cover under fire?

Notice how, when a sniper comes into a game, he is usually the quickest to be eliminated? This is because he strikes hard and fast, can move with stealth, and can be devastating when used properly. Not only that, but it takes a cool head and steady hands to snipe. Its not a spray-n-pray role - you must be deadly accurate, literally.

People groan when Wastelands or Derail comes into play, because it is sniper heaven. This is because those people don't understand the proper way to play these maps. You must use stealth, keep a low profile, blend in with your surroundings. It shouldn't be about getting the highest score - it should be able feeling the thrill of lying prone for a few minutes, waiting for your opponent to slip up - and punishing him for it with extreme prejudice.

People say snipers are campers, associating 'camping' with 'dog turd'. But, again, these are the type of people who run around wildly, not checking their surroundings, making noise like a wild rhino in a glass warehouse, expecting people to rush into their sights. This is not how you would fight in the Real World, why do you do this in a game? Because it is fun to rush blindly in as a hero - and the sniper is there to put you in your place.

Btw, bunnyhopping in MW2? Just a better headshot challenge.

I try, but it just seems so useless of MW2 when the most accurate weapons are actually assault rifles and there aren't any maps big enough for the range of the sniper rifles to come into their own.

snipers are generally pussies whom sit back and try to shoot people whom do not see them at that time, often due to a lack of ability to see at range without a sniper weapon.

I take up the scoped rifle every now and then - but only if game has head-essplosions upon headshot. Otherwise it isn't worth it.

Well... they are a key aspect of any team game, but some guys are straight pissin' me off. The guys who choose one place and camp there for the duration of the game; I mean, what's the point? Everybody knows where you are, you're going to get knifed the umpeteenth time, get out of there. But what's worse is the guys who suck, and have a K:D ratio of say... 2:25, and still play as a sniper. Sniper is a very powerfull class, and not everyone knows how to play them ( I mean really well ). But you know that they have hit rock bottom when you head-shot a sniper with an assault rifle. The game I'm reffering to is Day of Defet: Source. So, in conclusion, I don't hate the sniper as a class, but I'm not fond of 12 year olds playing as one( there are exceptions, of course).
