So I just beat Dragon Age 2...and I liked it. I wouldn't say it was amazing or game of the year material, but it wasn't bad either. The story was actually pretty good (even if Act I took forever) and I didn't mind the new fast paced battle system. I'll admit it would have been nice if the Quarni hadn't changed so much visually or if the game had more then two repeating dungeons though...

I was just curious if anyone else out there actually liked Dragon Age 2 given the extreme hatred this game seems to have arisen among the denizens of the Internet.

EDIT: Sorry, I didn't realize this was the second thread of its type. Please feel free to rage at me and call me names for making a simple mistake. I shall not forsake you again Oh Search Bar God!

I personaly loved the game. the combat on the console flowed so much better then DA:O.
I wish the storywas fleshed out more, and had less repetetive dungeons.
P.S, I love the elf's

Were there other threads like this out there already? I didn't see any when I searched (admittedly, I didn't search very hard though).

I loved it to pieces. On my second playthrough now and already planning a third. It's so much better than the first game and Awakening was.

I loved it, honestly. I thought it was just as good as the original. Now, it was very DIFFERENT. Which is why certain things are hard to compare side by side.
The only thing I'd say was lacking was the sheer epicness of the final battle, comparing to DAO. But it more than made up for it with its other aspects.

The problem I have with people knocking the storyline is that, yes, it was divided into three major, partially unrelated acts. But it wasn't about those things. People always say, "Well, we want storylines to be more character driven," well, this story is about Hawke. About the actual character, not about some blight, or some weird Lyrium artifact, or some other plot convention. It's about how one man became "the Champion" so if you consider it that way, then it doesn't matter what specific events take place, it only matters how they affect the character, how the character affects them.

No, but someone of us have better things to do than complain on the internet. Like play a game we enjoy. Or work. Or socialize. Or kiss ladies on the mouth.

Wait, where was I going with this?

So many hate threads, I think it's okay if a second 'like' thread exists ; )
Ah well, as long as one person agrees with me, then I don't care!

Also, in response to your first post. I freakin hate Anders. I wanna punch him so hard his stupid little beard falls off and he gets knocked down into the Deep Roads with Sir-Pounce-A-Lot. Merill can stay though. She is so stupid its cute.

As I was playing through Act III, I thought to myself, I really hope they manage to link The Champion and The Hero together. So glad they did.

Everytime I see someone rage about DA2 it just makes me like DA2 more and hate DAO alot more :p

So ya, I enjoyed DA2. I didn't enjoy DAO. And I am okay if DA3 plays similar to DA2.

It's a triple A sequel from a critically acclaimed developer, being released internationally by one of the biggest companies in gaming. Of course you're not the only one who likes it. It wouldn't exist if you were.

An overwhelming "above-average" for me. Characters are great, but the Third Act and dialogue wheel are terrible.

I liked it. Yeah I was disappointed. But towards the end it just 'clicked' for me and I started really enjoying it. But yeah, it seems all the complainers (Who may have valid reasons) seem to be the loudest atm.

I am one of the pc gamers incredibly annoyed by the gd camera... it really led to my party getting ass raped by mages off screen and an inability to find them even when I knew they were their.

But as a whole it was pretty solid... was a good time killer

Again?!

No, you weren't the only one. I loved it. My extremely subjective analysis:

Pros:

Story is better (especially the third act and companion subplots), characters are better, setting is better, combat feels more interactive

Cons:

Locales are re-used (a lot), enemies come in invisible waves, only you can wear the armor you find (??), no real epilogue (justified by narrative style? maybe)

I loved it. But the ending upset me, Merill and Anders.... grrrrrrrrrrr. (I hope I can make better choices in my second/third times in the later half)

It was a downer too.
I have to ask, I saw this was listed on Tv Tropes as a downer, and some people have described it as not being an ending at all, but that's roughly the opposite of what I got out of it. Did I miss some tidbit of information that made everything depressing?

The mages are freed from the Chantry and a civil war breaks out.

Okay, the second part's not great news, but Hawke lives. In my case, she even gets to live with Merill, which is a considerably better deal than the Warden got [small](either living a short while as a Warden or dying to kill the Archdemon)[/small].

The civil war was pretty much inevitable anyway, given the abuses the mages were suffering under the Chantry.

Isn't that just.. happy? It reminded me of the good endings of New Vegas, which may not be the most uplifting setting, but it's not exactly depressing either.

I have very mixed feelings about it. It's fun, and it's got a pretty cool story, and fun characters. I like that they give more info on what the stats mean and how that's effected by rank and level of the enemy too. But it's also one of the glitchiest games I've ever seen. And it's a very dumbed down version of the previous game, which i dislike, but I'm ok with. I like what they did with combat, other than a few things that they simplified too far. The star rating for items kinda offends me a little to be honest, I'm smart enough to compare weapons and decide which one I want, thanks.

Nothing in between okay and amazing.

It's nowhere where as good as Origins or Mass Effect...or Kortor.

I really thought I'd hate the radial dialog menu a lot more than I did. but it doesn't get in the way too much.
I liked that all the romances were bi

Bioware has a very...um, let's call it skewed definition of "improving". Their attitude is "If somebody doesn't like it nobody will miss it!"
So it was annoying in Origins when you were trying to search a darkspawn corpse and suddenly Leliana would say "Well, aren't you sweet and attentive."
That's no excuse to take out all the party small talk.
And it was a pain in the ass to constantly micromanage your teams armor, and now that's gone.
They did the same thing to the Mako in Mass Effect.

So much of the hate for this game isn't about the game it's self.
Some body couldn't install his game because he got banned from the EA site. 72 hours is nothing I had to wait 8 days for my preorder copy to show up in the mail.
Some guy gave their own game a perfect score. Big fucking whoop.
The game has anti-piracy software in it. Isabella would be ashamed.

All the IDENTICAL dungeons got on my grapes. You know what would be a quick fix for that chop the blocked off sections off the mini map.

The combat wasn't improved it was scrapped and replaced which would be fine if it wasn't for the difficulty.
Someone, who I can assume is a filthy rotten liar, said that Dragon Age 2 was easy on Normal difficulty.[sub]How much do you think he got paid for that review?[/sub]
So I started playing on hard and got my ass handed back to me.
So I dropped down to normal...and still got my ass handed to me.
It makes me feel like such a pussy to have to turn the difficulty on casual to kill 6 spiders.
This is the hardest game I've played since Ninja Gaiden Black.

And here's the kicker
[HEADING=1]You can't read the on screen text on an SDTV[/HEADING]
Better graphics is not an excuse to make the text microscopic, especially in a game that's 50% reading text

It's easily the best game that's come out this year (so far)
[sub]That means it's better than Dead Rising Case West[/sub]
I look forward to Portal 2 making me quickly retract that statement.
