Fight your own friends over something as empty and trivial as a kiss from a bimbo while she eggs us on? A spectacular opportunity for gallanty destructive stupidity! Yes please!

Ahhhhh what?

A game should not be expected (or at least obligated) to allow people to play exactly who they want. The player plays what the developer decides. Just like a book, the reader reads what the writer writes or a movie where the viewer views what the creators create.

When playing the game, my brother, brother in law and sister enjoyed the first level immensely. We defeated the final boss, worked out straight away we had to beat each other up for the girl and found that hilarious. We then continued on playing. I'm sorry to hear you can't enjoy a nicely made game with a good dose of humour thrown in.

well now I don't want to play this game. trying to stay away from stories in which the stakes are essentially a 1 dimensional character I care nothing about.
So in otherwords you are not interested in any game that has an emphasis on arcade like gameplay. That's a huge loss on your part.

Edit: Somehow got my tabs mixed up.

OT: Castle Crashers isn't exactly the best game in which to go looking for social commentary.

Woah now! Castle Crashers? I surely hope that you do not mean:

Because if you do mean that Castle Crashers then I really have to start to question what game you think you are playing. Somehow I doubt that Castle Crashers is trying to create some kind of social commentary, and I think that this is a case of blowing the situation WAY out of proportion, especially considering the game that you are talking about. If for example it was a game like Tomb Raider, during the controversial attempted "rape" scene, and the roles were reversed and then it was a fight to decide who would assault her, then I would be inclined to agree with you, but this is Castle Crashers, and in Castle Crashers, stuff like this happens:

cant believe that this is even a 'discussion' haha. Here, look at it this way...
Super Mario World 1...you beat the crap out of a dinosaur..dragon..turtle thing and countless turtles/mushrooms to get a kiss from a princess at the end. Its the same context..

Killing thousands upon thousands of things just to get a kiss. So just to get this straight, to put it into perspective. (Im not counting the whole wacky totally random world of Castle Crashers into this debate.)
Basically, its ok to kill thousands upon thousands of enemies, other soldiers/mobs etc etc, some of them may have had a family aswell? But that wasnt taken into consideration?

Basically, as some above posted, the whole game needs to be taken with tongue in cheek. It uses so many common tropes for video games. The damsel in distress part, is one of the most prominent of the older tropes, such as, Mario and Zelda for instance.

Long story short, take the whole game with a grain of salt, its not supposed to be taken seriously in any regard. Its just a 'fun' little game to play with other folks and randomly hit things.

The whole game is making fun of itself. Can you not realize this? The fact that is has the most generic save the princess plot plays into the comedy of the game. I played this game with my mom and brothers and never once heard her complain about fighting over princesses or even the fact that she was playing as a guy. You know why? The game is fun and that is all most gamers are looking for. A fun game. If this spoiled the game for you you have my pity.

...well this is gonna be a tough one.

Not necessarily cause I agree with, which I honestly really don't. I just don't wanna side with the whole "see, people are complain too much about sexism, and racism, and target us white males for merely being blah, blah blah."

But I genuinely feel you're looking a bit too far into this. Seriously. I'm sorry if this ruined the experience for you but with everything that happens in this game, I think it was just the creators thinking of a fun and unexpected way to end the game with your friends rather than just saying "yay, you got the final princess, party on."

It's an arcade game. Yes there's a simple story, yes there's some from of joviality and unity between the knights, but overall it was just an interesting and fun way to end this co-op arcade styled game.

But would they have done this if they were rescuing, kings or princes? Nope. In the end though, this doesn't really matter 'cause the whole game is a joke. I feel the creators would've found some other fun way to end the game...or not. Can't say for sure.

It's fucking Castle Crashers, not every game is trying to make some commentary on the role of women in games or what have you, some times a game that is made by a hand full of guys who are primarily focused on creating the combat system, level up awards and levels something like plot kind of falls to the way side and may be a bit of an after thought. It's a story that's as old as time and I think making the knights who were previously comrades instantly fight to the death is a good commentary on the tale.

Isn't Castle Crashers that flashesque game where at one point you ride deer that is propelled along by a constant stream of feces erupting from its anus?

Personally I think its quite disgusting the way the game depicts male characters as blindly driven by lust for the lost princesses, implying battle hardened knights will butcher their comrades in an instant because of a pretty face.
I'm pretty sure that actually happened quite a lot during the Middle Ages...

And I can't tell if OP is being serious, or is just baiting.

Dude, don't be a prick, how would you feel if after beating the last boss in gears of war you suddenly had a scene with Dom and Marco fucking each other in the butt?

What the fuck is wrong with you people? She encountered a situation that kind of came out of no where and made her uncomfortable and you shitheads are just pilling crap on her? WHY!?

You don't even seem to try and understand what is bugging her about this, you just assume she wants to take away your videogames.
Nice false equivalence. If that happened it would be really out of place. If there was foreshadowing or it fit with the themes, go ahead. But in a game where the plot has no dialogue, there is a character who's magic spell is shooting rainbows and a bow and arrow with hearts on. A lightsaber. A fish sword. Your armoury is inside a giant frog staked to the ground. Rocket faeces propelled deer. a lollipop sword. Clowns. at what point would you expect any kind of justification or deep plot?

This. Also I don't think the people in this thread know what over-analyzing means, form the op she did not analyze any thing she was playing the game, than this came and smacked her in the face. Overall think the satire defense that has come up might hold water but I doubt it given the things like shit propelled dear being its general level of humor.

I was really creeped out buy this part too. I think it was just an excuse to to make the players fight every once in while but the developers didn't think the implications through. (Yes I did ignore the boss when it had a few hit points left so my allies would be weakened because I'm a ruthless jerk.) It doesn't even make sense within the context of the game. Why would the princess kiss the knight closest to her when she was rescued but not the other ones? Shouldn't she be scared that she would be kidnapped again? I didn't ruin the whole game for me but the game would be much improved with a small patch.

I didn't really care. I mean, it was a "dick and fart joke" kind of game to begin with.

I gotta be honest. I would love to see a major title with a male PC who makes out (without player choice) with another dude. I would love to see the response from the community. I would like to see how it impacted sales. I would absolutely love it.

I would honestly, absolutely like to know if it would still be "just a game" when the shoe was on the other foot. Considering the reactions I see just from exposed male buttocks in movies, I seriously doubt it.

In any case, these threads do disturb me. I get that people don't see her point, that's fine. The scene didn't bother me. But the hostility is...disheartening, disappointing, and kind of frustrating.

Dude, don't be a prick, how would you feel if after beating the last boss in gears of war [bold]you suddenly had a scene with Dom and Marco fucking each other in the butt?[/bold]

What the fuck is wrong with you people? She encountered a situation that kind of came out of no where and made her uncomfortable and you shitheads are just pilling crap on her? WHY!?

You don't even seem to try and understand what is bugging her about this, you just assume she wants to take away your videogames.
You...didn't even read the OP, did you? That's completely different from the Castle Crashers example.

A proper analogy would be: After beating the last boss, Marcus and (not Dom, since he was already looking for his wife and stuff) whoever suddenly started fighting over who gets to lay with (insert love interest). Given the copious amount of testosterone injected into that game, it wouldn't even surprise me, since it would be an obvious 4th-wall breaking joke making fun of said roid raging manliness. And comparing anal sex to A SINGLE KISS? You're out of your mind.

Shit, I bet you didn't even play Castle Crashers, or else you would quickly see that it plays off of every medieval fantasy trope/cliche and a countless number of video games tropes too. It's straight parody, and takes a really ... unique or blind mind to not see that immediately.
