I know it'd be a solid, nearly bug-free game that offers hundreds upon hundreds of hours of monster slaying and loot finding.
I would like to stop you right there, as people have experienced quite a few issues [http://kotaku.com/5912118/diablo-iii-accounts-getting-hacked-gold-and-items-going-missing] even with a game that has been in the works for almost a decade. Heck, even Blizzard has acknowledged [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/news/view/117297-Blizzard-Apologizes-for-Diablo-III-Launch-Troubles] that they released a bad game, and the funny thing is that they have said, "Oh, our game has about the same amount of hacking/bugs as any other game." In other words, they just released this game as a mediocre sequel to simply cash in on the Diablo crowd and make more money on something that was really poor execution. They didn't try harder to please anyone, they just simply "released the game" as if they are pressing a "release" on an assembly line.
I just can't find any reason to play Diablo 3. My friends that did purchase it are
already abandoning the game, and its been out for less than 2 weeks.
Blizzard seems to be in the habit of destroying their flagship enterprises. I had three friends that played Starcraft 2. All three were serious fanboys of the IP, and one was playing SC1 to the day that he got handed a beta key to SC2 (which he pretty much screamed like a little school girl). All three of them were excited during the Beta, and had fun...supposedly, but then the rush of "the new thing" died out, and they realized that the "awesomeness" of Starcraft died out in StarCraft 2. A friend that just couldn't stop playing SC1 completely lost all interest a week and a half after SC2 came out.
Its simply sad. Blizzard seems to be flailing around trying to figure out how it can recover its awesomeness, but ends up being exactly like DNF. It comes out, and then everyone gets a general 'meh' over the entire IP. I know if it wasn't for DNF, I would have said that the Duke Nukem franchise is one of the best. Its failure cash-ins like Diablo 3, Starcraft 2, and Duke Nukem: Forever that are ruining gaming as we know it.
I just hope this new wave of "crowdfunded" gaming takes off like a rocket. If we get great games out of "cutting out publishers," I will stop visiting GameStop for "Intellectual Property 2013: This time, we added FOUR MORE guns and TWO MORE MAPS!" and start supporting games that are well thought out for the gamers on Kickstarter and other like services.
