I'm a little torn about buying it,
Yes, it is an awful piece of shit by all accounts, but I'm wondering if it is even good for a laugh because of how bad it is (see The Room and Troll 2). So I'm wondering what the escapist has to say: do you think DNF is worth $5?

Nope, will save it and see what's for sale this weekend or a decent daily sale. Maybe hold onto it for a future humble indy bundle.

I already have the game so maybe i'm baised but if I didn't have the game I still wouldn't buy it for $5 having played it.

No! If you buy it, it would be in your account forever. I'd take the Conetto instead.

There's probably $5 worth of fun spread out through the entire game, but getting there means slogging through all the awful parts. Just skip it.

Do it. Best FPS I played last year. I'm not even trolling either. I just like old school FPSs and it's got just about enough to be fun.

It is not worth it. Most of it is a slog to get through and there is little fun to be had.

I'm going to say this one time.

I liked Duke Nukem Forever.

It was a fun game. The level design was interesting at times. The weapons were varied enough, the enemies were nice re-imaginings of what we had in Duke 3d and there were some genuinely novel ideas (like the kitchen scene).

It was a strange hybrid of old and new and I enjoyed it. I had fun with it. For $5 you probably will too.

Steam would have to pay ME 10 bucks to get permission to put it in my library. Dont buy it.

Actually he probably wont. Maybe for 99 cents. But not 5 bucks. You can buy a pack of smokes for 5 bucks. Even with the lung cancer, that pack of smokes is more enjoyable than DNF.
Did you play it at all? I had fun with it.
The PC version was also free of the technical problems that marred the consoles (I heard people had like 50 second load times, mine were probably like 3 seconds).

Was it the best FPS game ever? Not even close. But I enjoyed it.

Just buy a bunch of Cornettos and watch LittleKuriboh's LP of it. It'll actually be funny, and you get Cornettos to boot!

I got Knights of the Old Republic for $5.

In no way is Duke Nukem Forever worth the same $5.

Thanks for all of the responses, but I have one main question that really hangs over my head. I know by most accounts it is miserable as a game, but I'm wondering if it is worth the experience to see how bad it really is. I guess what I mean is is it bad in a way that it is fun to nitpick it apart and laugh at all the flaws, much like the movie The Room, or is it just a dreadful experience overall.

Not to mention, part of me feels I should play it at least once, since it is a major part of gaming history for better or worse.

Go buy a Subway sandwich instead. It'll have more lasting appeal.
Actually use I'd it on a McDonalds meal. Feel fat for a day. It's refreshing from constant boredom.

It's not as "so bad it's good" as the room, Plan 9, Manos: The Hands of Fate or anything like that. That being said, I liked the game so I don't think my opinion on this matter counts :p.

During the holiday months, it was only 10 bucks brand spanking new at Wal-Mart (I do believe they've bumped it up to 20 again since then)

Honestly, I considered buying a copy just for display purposes.
