I personally hated Duke Nukem Forever.
Simply put, it kept old FPS components that don't make sense when viewed in the context of new FPS components.
Take some of the jumping puzzles.
There are in general two penalties for making a mistake in a jumping puzzle.
Health Damage and Instant Death
Instant Death is the most annoying, without warning it just kills you dumps you to the absurdly long loading screens. This can be made tolerable by quick saving... but wait, FPSs these day operate on a checkpoint system.
LOL you have to redo the whole level.
Health Damage is much more tolerable, you don't have to play perfectly and it tells you specifically on you health meter how dumb you were... Oh wait... Health Regenerates.
Making this entire thing, entirely pointless.
Most hilariously there are portions where you can shoot an obstacle to save on the health hit.
Why would I want to expend non-regenerating ammo to save on regenerating health?
It makes perfect sense if health were a more valuable commodity than ammo, but they left that puzzle in anyway.
Really this is just the biggest example, the entire game is rife with contradictions of this type. The game play just does not make sense.
Also, I wasn't put off by the sexist content, It was bad, but I was more bothered by the game portions of the game.
