Yes, for employment.
I also got background checked and fingerprinted.
They do drug testing for schools now? Huh.

Please, please, please tell me that you informed them on how utterly unreliable a polygraph test is, and it is tantamount to discrimination to base any information gained upon one to decide who gets a job or not.RipVanTinkle said:Nope. Never been near a situation where it was necessary either.
I have been put on the polygraph before. For a follow-up job interview. At a bookstore.
That's actually exactly what I did.Realitycrash said:Please, please, please tell me that you informed them on how utterly unreliable a polygraph test is, and it is tantamount to discrimination to base any information gained upon one to decide who gets a job or not.RipVanTinkle said:Nope. (Why is it discrimination? Because if you are nervous, any answer can set it off, and thus nervous people can be "proven" to be liars, and thus not get the job)
And if they fired someone based upon it, they could be set up with a case of unlawful termination! Yaaaay!RipVanTinkle said:That's actually exactly what I did.Realitycrash said:Please, please, please tell me that you informed them on how utterly unreliable a polygraph test is, and it is tantamount to discrimination to base any information gained upon one to decide who gets a job or not.RipVanTinkle said:Nope. I'm a Psychology student, and I wasn't trying to be arrogant, I just informed them of the various physiological processes that the polygraph records.
More importantly, I informed them that 1)I am indeed nervous (since it was my first time), 2)I also have a bias against the polygraph in itself and 3) any physiological reaction it records will be biased by my emotional component and subsequently my feelings towards the exact content and context of each question. Which may potentially render the entire process extremely unreliable.
Luckily, they appreciated my honesty, but at the end of the day they admitted it was just a formality. Apparently a previous employee had been stealing money from tills. So this was their method of "beefing up security".
It kind of is their business, if you are fucked out of your skull you are could be a danger to yourself and others, especially if you work around dangerous machinery or do a driving job. Also, if you have a serious addiction then you could be stealing money or stock in a effort to fund your addiction.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:But I never once got close to getting tested. I really hope I don't have to do one to get a job, I don't take any drugs but I dunno... It rubs me the wrong way. What business of theirs is it? If I do my job right, I do my job right, and if not, they fire me. It doesn't matter whether I'm some tofu eating, daily jog taking health nut or a guy who's smoking rocks all evening.
Wal-Mart at least used to mandate a piss test prior to employment and for any on-site accidents. They're a pretty major employer, too.Colour-Scientist said:I thought people only did that if you were going into the army or something.
+1 to that.SmashLovesTitanQuest said:It rubs me the wrong way. What business of theirs is it? If I do my job right, I do my job right, and if not, they fire me. It doesn't matter whether I'm some tofu eating, daily jog taking health nut or a guy who's smoking rocks all evening.
