Yes, for employment.

I also got background checked and fingerprinted.

They do drug testing for schools now? Huh.

I had to be drug tested for my current position with a major US insurer as a standard part of my pre-employment along with a criminal background check to make sure I could be trusted with protected health information. Its funny, peeing in a cup in itself is a rather funny act. I can only imagine its really awkward for the ladies.

Been tested for drugs several times, upon arrest. Arrested for what? Well, Drunk and Disorderly. It's only natural that they test, of course.

Nope. Never been near a situation where it was necessary either.
I have been put on the polygraph before. For a follow-up job interview. At a bookstore.
Please, please, please tell me that you informed them on how utterly unreliable a polygraph test is, and it is tantamount to discrimination to base any information gained upon one to decide who gets a job or not.

(Why is it discrimination? Because if you are nervous, any answer can set it off, and thus nervous people can be "proven" to be liars, and thus not get the job)

Yup, when I was getting my physical for the Army. Had to pee with a dude standing right by me making sure it was real pee. Not cool.

Where I currently work they "have" random drug tests, although in the 2 years Ive been here, noone, except when someone was injured, have taken a drug test. If they did, 70% would be fired that day.

That's actually exactly what I did.

I'm a Psychology student, and I wasn't trying to be arrogant, I just informed them of the various physiological processes that the polygraph records.

More importantly, I informed them that 1)I am indeed nervous (since it was my first time), 2)I also have a bias against the polygraph in itself and 3) any physiological reaction it records will be biased by my emotional component and subsequently my feelings towards the exact content and context of each question. Which may potentially render the entire process extremely unreliable.

Luckily, they appreciated my honesty, but at the end of the day they admitted it was just a formality. Apparently a previous employee had been stealing money from tills. So this was their method of "beefing up security".

And if they fired someone based upon it, they could be set up with a case of unlawful termination! Yaaaay!
Even IF they are within one of the 19 states which accepts polygraphs as reliable court-material (I looked it up).

What crazy places are you guys living that manual labour jobs and job interviews require drug tests?

I've never taken an illegal substance in my life, but I would never work at a company that had so little trust in its employees.

No,not really, to be fair I don't even drink and even when I'm sick I rarely ever take any medicine, so it would be a waste of time, I have however had my sister take a drug test, she kept asking and asking for money, she turned out positive for meth and other things I'm not familiar with, so now I don't give her money, to be fair she had promised me she was going to go to rehab and she didn't even though I offered to pay for it, so it's her fault.

But I never once got close to getting tested. I really hope I don't have to do one to get a job, I don't take any drugs but I dunno... It rubs me the wrong way. What business of theirs is it? If I do my job right, I do my job right, and if not, they fire me. It doesn't matter whether I'm some tofu eating, daily jog taking health nut or a guy who's smoking rocks all evening.
It kind of is their business, if you are fucked out of your skull you are could be a danger to yourself and others, especially if you work around dangerous machinery or do a driving job. Also, if you have a serious addiction then you could be stealing money or stock in a effort to fund your addiction.

Even if you don't get wasted before you work, say you just get wasted in the evening. The drugs could/will still be in your system the next day at work, which in itself will effect your productivity and the standard of your work. I know that if I work with a hangover (a very rare thing these days), I am not at my best. Plus if you are on something harder than weed, you could be taking days off sick to deal with really nasty come downs which also impacts on them negatively.

Its nothing personal, the company is just taking steps to protect itself from people who are perhaps not suited to the job.

I personally have not been drug tested at work, however a few years ago on a nightout, I was drug tested by the Police on my way into a club, basically they took a swab from my hand and ran it through a computer to see if I had handled/taken drugs before I got that club.

I thought people only did that if you were going into the army or something.
Wal-Mart at least used to mandate a piss test prior to employment and for any on-site accidents. They're a pretty major employer, too.

In my old unit (US Army Aviation), the most common drug test we had involved someone pounding on your door at 0300 directly after a long weekend and escorting you up to a holding tank office (usually with about 30 people in it... that was a random 10% of the company). There you would sit drinking bad tap water until you had to piss and you were at the front of the line. Made for some shitty days and a lot of lost sleep.

So yeah, a couple times.

+1 to that.

But more OT: No, I haven't, from what I can remember. Don't think they'd find anything particularly interesting even if it was to happen.

No, but I've been forced to get blood taken for a pregnancy test, even though I wasn't sexually active.
