What do you folks think of the upcoming release of Atlas Shrugged Part 1 in a few theaters? Mind you, most of you probably haven't seen it so this is just speculative first-impressions type stuff.

I think it looks like a whirlwind tour-de-force. Or perhaps the opposite of that. Truthfully, the fact that it's being released so soon caught me by surprise. No Angelina after all, I guess.
All I know is I can't wait to watch Dagny Taggart kick some ass on the big screen for free capitalism or whatever. I never actually got around to reading it so I don't actually know what she does. But since it was written by Andrew Ryan, it has to be awesome inherently.

Oh man, I've been looking forward to this for a long, LONG, time. It still remains to be seen whether its going to be a good adaptation of the book. I really hope it is, but I've had my heart broken by every book-to-movie adaptation ever made so I've got a niggling doubt about it, but Atlas Shrugged is my favorite book of all time so I'm going to give it the benefit of the doubt until it proves itself one way or the other.

It also tickles me pink that its coming out on Tax Day!

(also, Armin Shimerman is in it, so that should be awesome)

I didn't even notice that. That's kinda brilliant; bully on them. (Seems a bit on-the-nose as to what audience they're expecting to attract, too.)

I'm excited about it. I only read the book after playing BioShock, which was and is my favorite game of all time. I loved the book, and am glad that it is being made into film.

Rand wrote it without specifying any specific time period, so putting it in modern times helps relate the principles back to our audience. It's more than a style choice, it's how she would have wanted it.

After reading and watching some interviews with the director, it's clear that he doesn't agree with her principles, and is cutting some corners in it. Example, he disagrees with Laissez-Faire, and believed Rand to be an immoralist (above morality in a Nietzschean sense).

And yeah, putting the voice of Andrew Ryan (Shimerman) in the movie as a character is an awesome cameo.

And the music score looks to be phenomenal: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=aV2mULGktiw

I'm assuming this is a joke, but it's worth mentioning that Andrew Ryan is a really bad Objectivist. A fantastic character, but he's no Galt.

Yeah, I just added that in for a Bioshock joke. Plus it's a partial anagram of Ayn Rand anyway.

I was gonna try to restart this on R&P, but a quick look scared me off. Nonetheless, I've actually had some chance to look into it now instead of going purely by the trailer and it looks interesting to me. I'm not sure if bumping is frowned upon, but I get a feeling Escapettes would have strong feelings about it so I'm trying again.
