Poll: So, how many of us are actually a little disappointed?

I'm glad they fixed their massive screw up but at the same time I was looking forward to seeing how far their sales and stock would fall before they tried to right the sinking ship that was and could still be the xbox one.

But I'm still not getting it partly because they put this out and obviously thought it was a good idea and defended it by going to E3 with it so they were hellbent on pushing this and only changed it because the outrage from consumers was actually getting louder than the journalists and officials that were trying to cover for this crap. And just because they listened this time, what's to make sure they won't just reverse this decision?

MS has become a whipping boy. I would say im oblivious....and im a 360 fan. E3 killed the excitement i had for Xbone, and even thou they changed stuff, its hard to get that excitement back. Maybe a few months down the line it will be different. For the moment, they just changed things that shouldn't have been there in the first place. So yeah, gamers are wary, i get that, but maybe closer to the release date, more game info etc gamers will get excited for the Xbone.

I REALLY wanted the Xbox One80 to crash and burn with this one, but I guess we can't all get what we want. I'm glad they realized it was hurting them and that we managed to make a difference, but as I've been saying for the past day now: The fact that they tried to screw us over in the first place shows their true colors, and hopefully people will realize that and still not buy it.

well, when you put it that way, i have to admit there is a bit of disappointment in this aspect. i was actually looking forward to that. seeing the wicked fall to their own devices is one satisfying observation. but they saw it coming at the last second. good for us, if anticlimactic.

Never bough an xbox and still don't plan to but I'm glad they turned things around. As someone who owns a psp & ps3, SOny needs competition or they will become worse.

I'm kind of disappointed. While I am glad that it would seem that they do listen to their customers at least a little, I'm disappointed in Microsoft for not sticking with it and not getting to see Microsoft learn the hard way why you don't fuck over your customers. Fact is though, the deed has already been done. While some people may relent and forgive, others will not unless MS can somehow pull something massive out of the ass before launch to turn more people around.

Yes but not because I hate the xbox or anything, I'm still hoping it crashes and burns because I don't think they've changed their minds on the issues everyone had with their console, I'm going with PS4 (if I go with anything), we saw just how quickly they 180'd on their vision on the future of gaming and I don't think they're just gonna leave it here.

I'm predicting all of these terrible policies will make a return, I really don't trust this move, they're just gonna do it slower over a longer period of time.

I disagree. Perhaps I've flooded my brain with Game of Thrones but if someone in a position of power had shown such clear contempt for the people they're supposed to provide for and look after, those people would have mounted their head on a pike.

This is what should have happened to Microsoft. We needed them to fail to serve as an example to others who would try and do the same. Microsoft are supposed to provide us with the means to play games, not restrict our ability to do so. If the one succeeds, I'm certain we'll see the DRM and anti-gamer/pro-publisher policies return before too long, and probably under a different guise.

I'm sure they will, regardless of other factors; mostly because those DRM restrictions benefit the AAA Publishers more than anyone and I have no doubt that it was the AAA Publishers who petitioned, lobbied and begged Microsoft to build a console that they could control fully.

There's no doubt that this DRM is going to show up again; even if the Xbone fell as a result.

Business people are smart, ambitious, ruthless and most importantly, they don't give a fuck about you. Remember that.

Some of them, yes. But some of them are clumsy and out of touch with the market because they don't give a fuck.

The main reason I didn't necessarily want Microsoft (or rather, the Xbox) to crash was for competitive reasons.

Sony only put on the show that they did because the Xbone was receiving an endless hail of flak and they aimed to capitalize. Without Microsoft, there is no doubt in my mind that we would be complaining about the same things on the PS4.

Yeah, I wanted to see it fail and fail hard. I wanted it to go down in history as a prime example of "Treat everyone as customers, not consumers". Microsoft, being motherfucking Microsoft, wouldn't have flopped from a console fail because of its enormous foothold in the electronic world, and it would've been a hard-earned learning experience for them.

As for now, I agree with everyone else, there's a good possibility that Microsoft can insert all their taboos after the console has been released. Remember the OtherOS?

I was really hoping they'd stick to their guns from a social experiment standpoint.

It would have been interesting to see if people were going to vote with their wallets for a change. Personally, I think people would have just complained but still overwhelmingly support the system as good games came out.

All of that functionality is gone, because you people couldn't deal with connecting the console to the internet.

I'm pretty should they could deal with it.....if they wanted to, and they didn't want to. We've seen the precedents and they haven't worked.

I'd rather take the ability to use my product 100% of the time rather than having a couple features to "make up" for online requirements.

As a major Halo fan, I figured that the only way for the franchise to survive would be for the XBone to fail so hard MS would have to start selling off franchises to make up the dev costs.

Now I guess it'll all just go down with the ship.

Yup. I still wish that it burns, but it probably won't happen anymore. Nothing against the console specifically, but I hate Microsoft's attitude towards their customers. All that defending of the shitty features even when it was clear that people didn't want it, all that "We need to educate gamers","If you don't want online buy a 360","The world is going from offline to online" bullshit. Yeah, I was hoping they would crash and burn because of that crap.

Put it more eloquently than I would have, I suspect. I felt personally pretty insulted by the way they were talking to and about people like me- people, in short, who may not find all of their new ideas and measures convenient.
(Just by the way, the thing that pissed me off the most was the comment that "if you want backwards compatibility, you're backwards." Do they have so little faith in their own games that they can't believe anyone will want to play any of the current games in six month's time? I still play original Xbox games, so apparently I'm "backwards"? Way to make me be really fucking afraid for the quality of future games there, if you think gamers have such short attention spans as to discard them so soon.)

I still hope that it will fall far, far short of their expectations and cause them to re-evaluate how they function. But, no, it probably won't happen. And, yes, that is a shame. But I'm trying to be happy that the industry is learning- sort of.

Gamestop et al saw themselves being divested of all that glorious free money from pre-owned sales and lost their collective shit. Obviously this was back of the boardroom stuff rather than plastered all over gaming sites, but I can guarantee it was a threat of 'we will do everything we can to fuck you' from retailers which made microsoft's arseholes pucker rather than a bunch of gamers complaining on the internet. A bunch of gamers they had a 12 to 7 chance of getting a big percentage of back the day the next cawadoody launched exclusively for the xbone.
