I have NEVER bought a console on launch , ever . Why because it usually takes about a year for developpers to get around how to make decent games without it being gimmicky . That being said i do have a little ( read : a lot ) of disposable income , and am on the fence about buying one . Not because i'm perticularly amazed by what it can ( potentially ) do, but because it's been long enough since the start of this generation and i'm looking for something fresh . Then again i could also wait till more games come out since it's not a necessity for me right now .

Anyways , enough about me , what about you ? There are enough threads disussing the mechanics and specs and games comming out for the wiiu but what i really want to know is how many of you guys are actually going to buy this console on launch? If you are can you explain the reasoning that pushes you to buy this console on launch .

If not why aren't you going to buy it on launch? And are you planning to buy one in the future?

Keywords in this thread being Launch

I went ahead and preordered one. Not out of any trust in Nintendo, but because fuck it.

I dont see much that could go wrong. They have a (somewhat) proper controller for tradictional games. And developers have to have learned from their mistakes with the Wii and know what to do going into the Wii-U. Things should be fine.

Well i pre-ordered the ZombiU pack last weekend. I will probably go out on launch day to buy 2 or so more games (I want mass effect 3 and lego city undercover(if they are launchgames that is >.< )).
I enjoy my wii and will enjoy the WiiU as well.

Also I have always loved (and will always love) nintendo. I like them and I do not care what other people think of it.

Getting it for Christmas. I never get the system on Launch. The Lines are rediculous, and it's just better to wait for Christmas time anyways.

But I shall indeed get the WiiU. The Pro Version with Nintendoland. I'm also gonna get ZombiU and New Super Mario Bros U too.

On launch? Most likely not. If a console doesn't meet by 12 game quota (and I'm aware of the "50 launch window games". They mostly consist of games I already have or am not interested in), then I don't buy it. Doesn't matter if it is on launch or six years after launch (the PS3 only met my requirement a year and a half ago). A gaming platform needs games. Otherwise, what good is it? This is why I don't understand people who bought the 3DS and Vita on launch. Those libraries were atrocious. I think it sends a bad message, too: "Oh, we don't need a good launch library. People will buy it anyway just because it's the new thing".

So will I buy it ever? Maybe. With Bayonetta 2, it already has one game going for it. But on launch? If the library they've announced is what it will actually be on launch, then hell no.

On launch/before 2013? No, probably not. Right now it stands in the "probably eventually" status though.

My brother has pre-ordered already, so this ain't really an issue for me :D

If it weren't for that though, I think I wouldn't. I usually buy a console when there are more games available. I rarely get anything at launch.

I'm going to wait for the big three to all lay their cards on the table then I'll choose on I will more than likely get them all but with this resection you never know and I don't want to be stuck with an awe full console.

I'm not going to have the funds to do so but I think I might buy it some time down the road.

LOL

That proper controller also includes a touch screen which Nintendo could choose to utilize instead of the traditional controls. It's not like Wii was without a traditional controller, it was just ignored by Nintendo.

Developers could have learned from their mistakes with the N64 and the Gamecube but apparently they didn't. What mistakes were they suppose to learn from with the Wii?

I do see much that could go wrong. There is a good chance it will be ignored by third parties after the PS4 and the Nextbox come out. There is also a good chance that Nintendo will try to put touch controls into every game just because they can and not because they are needed.

Not stuffing motion controls into game that dont need it. They have to know that was a problem with the Wii. Repeating that with the Wii-U would be idotic

So they add touch controls instead. Sounds like they learned nothing. They traded one controller gimmick for another.

The difference is, you already know whether you want touch controls in your games if you played anything on the DS/3DS. Ask yourself, "Self, did I enjoy games with touch controls more than games without touch controls?"

As for me, I would have taken two Zelda games with traditional controls any day and hated when they forced me to touch my screen to drop a fire flower when a button would have sufficed.

I'm not interested in the WiiU. Sure, I'd like to try it. I'm pretty sure one of my friends will get it so I'll just try it at their place. I'd rather wait out to see what the next Microsoft and Sony consoles have in store.

I posted a reply to this question a few days ago but that thread went absolutely no where so I'll just re-post that if you don't mind (and if you do mind....TOO LATE!):

I have no interest in a $300 Nintendo system and will wait for the price to go down. I would pay $400-500 for the next Sony/Microsoft consoles (the amount I expect them to be around).

The reason for this is simple: History

History has shown us time and time again that Nintendo does not have a good relationship with third party developers. For myself, the big 3 (Mario, Zelda, and Metroid) do absolutely nothing to get my gamer juices flowing. If history does repeat itself, we can reasonably expect that these 3 big ticket items will be around, a few half-assed attempts at porting other 3rd party games, and a ton of gimmicky mini-game shovel-ware.

I'm not willing to gamble $300 to see if Nintendo will get it's act together. Waiting for a price drop gives me both things I'd like: Cheaper stuff and proof that there will be more than the big 3 on the system.

Retail stores will have a display model.

By 'try', I meant crush some beers and nerd out on their couch. Seems like a better alternative than playing a demo in a crowded store.

Um ok, sorry for the suggestion.

No,because there won't be any games I like to play on launch. Perhaps in the future maybe, but also maybe not.

No need to apologize. I just think all of us can agree that gaming (specifically trying a new console in this case) is a lot more fun from the comfort of a living room than the crowded aisles of a retail store.
