We've been told that 8 hours is the normal amount you should be getting. Then we get told that it's less. Or more.

New idea. We find out the average of the Escapist and present that as the "YOU SHOULD BE GETTING THIS MUCH" to the world. Come on, we're all gamers and who among us HASN'T stayed up till 1 AM gaming on a school/worknight?

Who's with me!?

At least 7-8 hours, and the past few weekends I've managed to get a lovely 9-10. If I have under 6 hours sleep then I have a tendency to hallucinate, so it's quite important to keep a routine.

1 AM?
Please I've made it a week without sleeping[footnote]This behaviour isn't endorsed or recommended by me, side-effects include having no idea what you're doing, being completely unable to concentrate and hallucinations.[/footnote], anyway considering that I normally go to sleep anywhere between 2AM and 4 AM and tend to get up at 8AM I'd say anywhere between 6 and 4 hours, but considering that it normally takes me around half an hour to fall asleep let's say anything between 6-3 and a half hours, though one time I did sleep for 3 days, but that was after said week without sleeping, and may have been a short coma.

I used to be able to get by on 4 hours sleep, but as I got older that got harder and harder to do and when I started doing my current job, it would kill me to have to work all day on not much sleep. These days I will try to get at least 7 hours so I can function like a normal human being.

Its funny though, when I do need to sleep for something like work the next day, I usually find myself staying up later than if I have nothing to do the next day. For example, on Thursday I stayed up until 2am watching DVD's when I had to be up for 7am. And last night, I wanted to do an all nighter checking out bands for Leeds Festival and by about 12.30 I was ready for bed.

According to FitBit, between 1-3 hours of "proper" sleep. No wonder I'm so tired all the time...

Sleep? What's sleep?

I've had awful insomnia recently, and have been lucky to manage more than a couple of hours. Never at night. More like at 9 AM, when my body can't take it anymore and I just konk out for a bit.

I get between 10 and 14 hours of sleep a night. On average, I get 10, but some nights I just end up sleeping in a few extra hours.

I would say barely any though I schedule for 9-10 hours. Due to my really deviated septum in my nose, I stop breathing in the middle of sleep leading to constantly waking up. My surgery to fix this life long problem is in 4 days. I'm always tired, depressed, and moody and I hope being able to actually have a good night sleep for once in my entire life will help to fix those issues.

I had 3.5 on Thursday/Friday and 15 on Friday/Saturday (something like 8:30 to 11:30ish), but generally speaking, usually 5.X, so I said 5.

Will be interesting once the sample size is bigger,

My average is around 5, when I do manage to get some sleep. I do make up for that by having some coma like sleep lasting 14+ hours once every 2 months or so.

I try to aim for the 7-8 hour mark and usually that's how much I sleep.
I am putting the 8 hour option in the poll because 8 is such a beautiful number.
