Poll: So I finally have some evidence that Facebook is indeed evil.

So I was checking my business email account the other day, the one that lives on my CV and is used for trying to get work and I found that I was being asked to pay for Spotify after a free trial, I've never used the service and found this very strange. I followed it up and tried to reset the password on the service, only to be told it had been done via Facebook, something I have not used for the past 4 years because I despise Facebook (for many reasons that aren't worth getting in to).

So, Facebook let me reset the password without any hassle because I had the email address (because it was MINE!) with which the account was associated with (lesson kiddies; set security questions up). I got in and found that somebody had been using my details for their Facebook account, none of my financial details thankfully but none the less this pissed me off, I thought that account verification was an important thing but I guess Facebook doesn't care about identity theft.

I duly did the right thing, destroyed his profile, changed all his details, added unanswerable security questions, changed the password to an impossible combination of words numbers letters and random symbols. Then I replaced all his photos with a jolly roger and deactivated the account, never to be seen again.

I then had to go through the hassle of changing all my account passwords and details, disassociating the email account with my regular accounts, changing it's password and closing it so I need to make a new business account.

This included my security setups for: Steam, Amazon, Play.com, HMV, eBay, PayPal, Natwest, SEN, my University accounts, MSN, Skype, JTV, Google, Youtube, The Escapist.

I am now thoroughly pissed off at Facebook and wish nothing but ill on it. Should I ever meet the arsehole that put me through this hassle and had the audacity to use my details I shall punch him straight in the throat, repeatedly, until he begs for mercy from the Sun God. The benefit of a photographic memory is you never forget a face.

So, now that my story is done, have you ever had any bad experiences with Facebook?
What are they and how did you overcome them?
How do you feel about it in general? I personally despise it because of how it's replaced actual socialisation and face to face contact in modern society for a significant number of youths. I also despise it for the number of gobshites who talk big on there but run a mile when they next see you in real life > >.

I hardly ever go on my Facebook account but I only hate it because it's riddled with people inviting me to play shyte games, my profile wall and e-mail inbox is full of them.

Well the above seemed reason to hate for me. I never even got any kind of oh hey you now have facebook email or anything.

I also hate it because of the amount of people who I knew from high school (whose guts I hate, those kind of people) added me as a "friend". Also invites, spam, people dont leave you alone, if you have it they refuse to communicate in any other way.

If people complain about duck faces and shit games they really have only themselves to blame, and I basically propose that they sort it out or shut up because the complaining is pointless.

So many people use it now I am hard pressed not to use it a little. I generally just leave the tab open and go to it when people message me outside that I don't use it all that much.

True enough, I have more well founded reasons for disliking it, such as incessant toss pots from high school never leaving me alone. I found the best solution was to kill it.

Then the events mentioned in the OP happened and I felt the need to release some bile.

I really dont care about it either way, because the only time I ever used it was to make a page for Harry Truman. My teacher gave me a B, which is the "meh" grade for me. So that is the feeling I have for Facebook

It's kinda useful actually, my class uses it. We have our own group and shit. Very useful.

That being said, I'm one Bubble Safari invitation away from a murderous rampage.

Fortunately my game invites have slowed down substantially in the last few years. Everyone and their dog has an iPhone now apparently.

I haven't used Facebook in months. Although it's not the reason I stopped using it I really don't like the idea or look of this "timeline" thing. That might be reason enough to completely delete my account there, if I ever feel like actually doing something with my account at some point.

I'm in my final year of highschool, so there is a very good chance I will drift away from my friends. I'm hoping that I can keep in touch with most of them through facebook so for that reason I really like it. I'm surprised by the bell shape of the curve. I though it would be incredibly polarized with few people in the middle. On the internet people tend to flock to extremes.

Thanks for reminding me. I need to shift everything to my new Facebook account. Going to be a lot more select with friends, never add pages and just use it for communication when people refuse to reach me via other means.

I use Facebook almost every day, and this is my personal opinion of the site in a nutshell:

News Feed: LMS for Truth Issss!!, *duckface, "random asshole got a highscore in something you don't care about", *laughably melodramatic poetry, *occasional interesting topic/status update.
ANALYSIS: 90% bullshit, 10% Useful.
SCORE: Poor

Private Groups: Relevant things from people you actually know well.
ANALYSIS: 99% Relevant things from people you actually know well, 1% Unprompted friendly insults.
SCORE: Universal critical reception.

And that's my take on it. So it's 'mild contempt' for me.

I use it to talk to friends both nationally and internationally. I went to an international school for 5 years, so about 1/4 of my friends are from different countries. When MSN went the way of the dinosaur, Facebook chat became the best way to stay in touch when they're not in the country.

I use it to keep in touch with all my internet friends, and some real life friends and relatives.

I've also got the thing so modified that I get no ads, no invites, and no stupid shit in general.

Still have to deal with timeline though.

So the moral of the story is not to use the same passwords for everything and to actually give a shit about your profile security?
