Poll: So...I hit Major rank in Halo:Reach. How though?!

So, I finally reached the Major rank in Halo: Reach, which means I can wear Jun's ghille hood and Emile EVA helmet with a nice dose of pride mixed with confusion, because how I ranked so quickly is beyond me. However within the first three games of being Major, I was asked, 'do I boost?', 'you have no life' and heard 'bet he just plays rocket firefight'.

Despite this, after asking them to just check my commendations, they all went silent and disapeared. I haven't even got them all, and only about 8 to 10 of them are silver. I remember seeing a Major Grade 2's service record and he had 5 Onyx commendations, yet is only two ranks above me!

I play a wide variety of all game modes, (multiplayer being lowest because I'd rather co-op with chums) but I still can't work out why I am so highly ranked. Any ideas?

It's weird. My wife has a guy on her friendslist who's a Captain grade 3 (she's JUST flicked over to Captain grade 2). Even though she's played way more campaign, almost all of his Campaign commendations are gold with a couple of Onyx, wheras she only has a few silvers.

That would be:

Warrant Officer, then 1,2,3...then...Captain, then 1,2,3...THEN Major etc then Lt Cononel for that last annoying achievement...then god knows what...

I don't think I know anyone past warrant officer 3 right now.

Hell, I'm only the rank before warrant officer 1. Probably because I can only stand to play 2 or 3 games every 1 or 2 days. [sub] And because this is my first halo online experience and therefore I'm terrible. [/sub]

Basically meaning that you need to grind like hell to get there, then its an easy ride.

Warrant Officer Rank 1, I pretty much just do whatever is needed for the daily challenges. Good fun, Sniperfight can bugger off though, god damn that's all anyone ever wants to play.

You are somewhat right. The jumps between Grade 3 and the next rank are still pretty big.

The Warrent Officer Ranks are still the biggest grind though.

honestly i have no idea, i get headshot galore and i get 1st/2nd nearly every game i play in, and im only a warrant officer grade 1 almost 2, so i have no idea what some people are doing but they are raping me in "rank" persay. i play roughly 70% multiplayer, 28% campaign and 2 % firefight

For whatever reason, Im about 95% ready to pack it in and sell my halo reach to gamefly for 32 bucks, and its a goddamn awesome game, but between bungie shorting me the campaign matchmaking until mid october (the one goddamn thing I bought this game for), firefights lag issues on my signal, and the fucking. god. fucking. dammit "Halo Multiplayer" experience that I havn't had the misfortune of being emotionally raped by since I was like..12, I just don't know how much more I can take XD..

Granted Im overdoing it a bit..but the multiplayer in this game is seriously annoying, especially after I got to watch a guy score 45 kills on a first to 75 BTB slayer by sitting in the middle of Hemmorrage sniping everyone with a scorpion while spawn nuking the other one...3 matches in a row.

Edit: Sorry for all the foul language, this game has got me in a bitter mood =\.

Huh. I've played a fair bit, scored all the daily challenges most days, completed both weekly challenges etc..., but I'm a warrant officer grade 2 at the moment. Actually, I've seen very few captains, and only 2 majors, so I'm now worried that I'm playing too much.

Also, I don't have that high a level in most of the commendations. I can't be bothered to play through the campaign that many times, headshotting everything with a variety of different weapons, always claiming multikills, and dying every time I finish a kill streak.
The only one I have silver in is the one for campaign headshots. I have all the MP ones to iron or bronze, and about 2 iron firefight things.

Note: The firefight score achievements are easier than they look when you realise you can make yourself invincible whilst dealing nigh-infinite amounts of damage to enemies with no health. It's just that I can't be bothered to play like that for the 45 minutes or so needed to get the million points thing.

Plasma pistol, banshee, there are ways to kill tanks.

They are rebalancing Hemorrhage to include wraiths instead of scorpions, which are harder to use and therefore a little less uber.

Banshee's are crap against Scorpions, they are to bloody accurate...

But i love them <3

And on Hemorrhage they are easy to take care of, it's a huge map so just try and flank them.

Hell i always do it...and GAGGGHHHHHHH i hate Wraiths!!! I always get caught in a blast -_-' they fire half way across the map and always kill me!

doesn't the plasma pistol just stop movement of the tank? that means they can still insta rape anything within eyesight. banshees are air vehicles but they get RAPED by the tank, as soon as you hear or see one the tank more then likely is gonna take it out, i saw 4 banshees get insta raped by one tank one round, but the wraith thing makes sense, it is harder to aim and use
