Best concert I've EVER been to.

It was hosted by Tommy Tallerico, and conducted by Christopher Tin. They covered everything from Mario to Earthworm Jim to Skyrim to Journey.

It was a blast.

Who here has been to a Video Games Live concert? What were your impressions?

Now that's a name I haven't heard in a while. Tommy Tallerico. Man, that takes me back to the early days of Reviews on the Run.

OT: No, I've never seen it. It might be fun to, someday, though.

Glad you enjoyed it.

Haven't heard of him in a while? He's been the host of pretty much every VGL since conception. It was his idea!

Maybe that's why you haven't heard of him outside of VGL. :p

I used to really want to see them, back when I was subscribed to Nintendo Power, but I haven't even heard of them in years.

That said, I would love to see them sometime. I'll have to look up their locations to see if they even come near my state.

I saw them in New York a couple of years ago. Some good old Final Fantasy, Megaman, Metal Gear, Mario, Halo, Chrono Trigger, a bit of Mass Effect I believe, and so much more. It was complete awesomeness. So many times during that night I kept saying, "My life is complete, I can die a happy man". It was really, really good. Time moves by so fast because you are just so into it.

I'm really glad I got the chance to see it. I encourage everyone to try and do the same!

Took a couple of searches to figure out what this actually is... an orchestra playing video game themes... From their website you'd think they were just playing chiptunes off a disc, and from your description I was expecting something like all of the contributors to OCRemix giving live performances with guitars, keyboards and DJ setups...

No no no, they have all that AND an orchestra. Actually hell with describing it. Here, video:

I've been to both Play! A Video Game Symphony and Video Games Live (once each). Good times. Unfortunately, my video game experience is kind of narrow, so a good third or half of what I heard I didn't really...care about. You know what I mean?

Just out of curiosity, does Square still not let them play game footage during the concert?

EDIT:

Video Games Live but w/ OCRemix...might actually be even better. If I were to switch from fangasm mode to critic mode, the orchestrated music sometimes has subpar instrumentation choices. Guys from OCRemix wouldn't make those kinds of mistakes.

Confirmed. They had some pretty awesome fan-art to replace it, though, so that was good.

I've been to the Zelda Symphony, and that was amazing. I would go see VGL in a heartbeat if it ever came down my way.

I've been to 2 VGL shows, and the last one I was at in 2010 had a special guest appearance by Akira Yamaoka. I was quite pleased!

I got to see it a couple years back when they were in Bethesda, Maryland. Really, really great show. Before that, I saw the broadcast that PBS did of a previous show, so I knew what to expect. Much better live, though.

I'd like to see VGL for sure, but I haven't caught it yet.

Did also see the Zelda Symphony of the Princess, that was pretty good stuff.

I went to the London performance back in 2008.

I was incredibly pleased to witness the London Symphony Orchestra perform Metal Gear Solid. I'd never experienced the power of a live orchestra before, and it was bloody amazing.

That isn't my video, I was up in the gods, sniping with a 500mm lens meant for wildlife!

My only complaint with the London venue was that they banned photography, even though Tommy Tallarico had said on his site that he wanted people to take as many as they liked, as well as record everything. The venue didn't get the memo, meaning I had to go stealth with a 7kg camera setup!!

I think I know what city you live in, MUA HA HA HA HA!

Anyway, haven't had the finances to go myself yet but I hear it's a damn good show.

I haven't paid any attention to VGL. I kinda forgot it was even a thing.

I only remember/know of him because of Reviews on the Run.

I had been hoping to see Jack Wall and/or Akira Yamaoka. Neither were there, so that was a bit sad. That said, Christopher Tin totally made up for it. :D
