I think it's mostly just amusing how angry people get about it.

The "PC Master Race" Itself seems more tongue and cheek than anything, people taking it seriously tend to be a source of amusement for everyone.

Honestly, as political and sanctimonious as the schisms separating gamers have gotten, I sincerely miss the days when elitism based on hardware choices was the primary cause of nerd rage... And that's horrible
You know...sadly...you have a point there.

Dirty Console Peasant! Your words carry no weight here! Now bow before the marvelous PC Master Race, your guides to the enlightened state of PC gaming, free from filthy Console Gaming and the dirty Peasants it has trapped.

More Seriously: No telling. Maybe when the PC Master Race collectively decides to stop using it as a half-ironic joke and half-serious ego booster. Or perhaps it will end when Dirty Console Peasants stop showing annoyance.
I currently only use laptop and 3DS. i couldn't give a damn about the console wars, i just use PC because of steam sales and mod fixes. To be honest i created this poll in relation to the stupid joke hogging all the space in the video games sections, which was seriously getting on my plums. A newspapers website couldn't get away with filling the entire world news section with Putin-memes.

The problem as I see it is that every generation of console brings them closer to what the PC can do for a lower (sold at a loss price.)

Watch Netflix or Amazon, done. Browse the web, done, listen to your streaming music, done. Talk over SKYPE, done. Play a game or two, done.

There is very little that people use a PC for that they can't also use a console for these days. The gap vanishes each generation.

The convenience gap is shrinking too. Want to pop in a game and play, oh no wait I have a 50gb patch to get first.

Consoles and PCs are now virtually identical, with modding being allowed on consoles yet another step toward a PC like environment.

I really do think that the One and the PS4 (with maybe Nintendo's next effort) being the last of consoles as we know them.

Seems to be fairly harmless to me. People who use that phrase unironically are probably not worth talking to so it's a pretty good barometer on character. I use it myself, half as a joke and half as a descriptor on my use of PC as a gaming platform. I'd have a console or two if I had a dedicated gaming room. But I refuse to clutter up my living room with too much tech.

I first heard that phrase from Yahtzee seriously taking the piss out of PC gaming and thought it hilarious, even though strictly speaking he was kinda talking about people like me. Offense isn't given, it's taken.

Except play games at 60fps in 1080p! :p

Okay, kidding aside, consoles are drawing ever closer to PC, I think the only really meaningful difference now is that console manufacturers can still treat their products as walled gardens.

Ah...I see. Originally I thought you were talking about the PC gaming master race thing being used as a joke in the gaming discussion forum, and I was thinking, WTF is this guy on about? Have people been spamming that shit in every topic? Do they just super hate it and any mention sends them into a maddened fury? Then I read the above and remembered there's an actual official "Video Games" section and clicked on it. Yeah, that'd be super annoying if I was someone who wanted to use that section. So you can change one poll answer from a "no" to an "I don't care, but I can see why you would".
Huh, yeah. I checked that after reading your post and it does seem to be getting a bit much.

I think we will start seeing more of the PC Master Race as most people I've talked to think that we are leaving the age of 'death of PC gaming' and moving into an age of 'death of console gaming'. Most people I've talked to in real life (most of which have always been console players) don't seem to think they'll be a PS6 or a XBoxPi, most are predicting at most 1 more console generation.

I have no idea how PC gamers can be so uppity about things considering how many games are just outright ported from consoles in the first place. Considering how many games I see with things like mouse acceleration and no rebindable controls I can kinda see where it started to be used unironically in some cases.

I don't really care about the joke itself. However it must be said that since the seventh generation of consoles, console gamers have essentially been getting short-changed. The current generation of consoles are so woefully inadequate and the people who play them are getting cheated by the industry at every possible opportunity. "30 FPS is fine!", "Why do you need 1080p?", "You bought a console so you could avoid the hassle of PC gaming? Tough luck, now you have to deal with MORE hassle!"

It's ridiculous. Being a PC gamer these days isn't about elitism, it's about practicality. The only reason to get a console is for the exclusives.

No

cause there are way to many dullards that actually believe they are 'better' then some one else cause of the platform they game on.
It's not even that really. It's whenever that debate of "which system is better" comes up, that this will rear it's head. This is hardly unique to PC gamers, they just came up with a funny sounding term for themselves, and console gamers haven't. If console gamers ever came up with a unified term for themselves, aside from just "console gamer", you can bet they would use it the same way people use PC Master Race, ironically and unironically. That's just how people are. Some people derive personal gratification from establishing themselves as being into "better" stuff than other people. My favorite superhero can beat up your favorite superhero, my sports team is better than your sports team, my country is better than your country, etc etc. And since both platforms have their pros and cons, that's always going to come up, because people will always ***** about the drawbacks of their own system, or ***** about the limitations of the other group's system. *shrugs* It's just how we are. Not everyone does it sure, but enough do it to keep the conversation alive on the internet.

For gamers though, since we play so many varied games, we can't easily do "My Dark Souls is better than your Dark Souls!"...because they're the same. So, all we can do is get into pissing contests over the system we use to play our various games on, because those are the only static things in the entire medium of gaming.

It probably won't ever disappear from the vocabulary of top-tier enthusiasts who have more money than brains. As far as regular PC gamers who use it as a joke...yea it has definitely overstayed its welcome. Admittedly, I do catch myself smirking at such jokes from time to time.

You think these super enthusiast types are only jerks towards console gamers? Check out the comments section of wccftech.com/...so much arguing and trolling over hardware brands, far worse than Xbox vs PlayStation. Everyone is either an AMD fanboy or a Nvidiot...seriously one of the worst comments sections of any tech site.

Consolepeasantsayswhat?

It's a meme that's here to stay and frankly I really don't understand why people have a problem with it anyway. It's not like it's as bad as a 'Yo mamma' jokes. A well placed one can be amusing and if you're seeing too many then just ignore them.

When you whine like this it really only brings out more of the same because you've exposed a weakness.

I doubt it's going anywhere. Video gaming is still so tribal that people aren't going to be ditching anything that proves their "superiority" anytime soon.

Wait, are you talking about the Glorious PC Gaming Master Race Announces 2016 Candidacy joke? [http://www.escapistmagazine.com/articles/view/video-games/17006-PC-Gaming-Master-Race-Politics-Campaign-President-2016] Or just the meme in general? Because the former maybe after elections, and the later probably as long as console wars exist.
