It seems that the Commonwealth Games are in peril, with The Athletes' Village half-built and in a shocking condition, Athletes pulling out, fairly good odds of Terrorism, and most recently, the collapse of a brand new Pedestrian bridge, and the ceiling of the weight lifting venue.

Now, I understand that India is not the richest country in the world, but cutting corners and half-cocking the venues and accommodation isn't going to help anything. Considering that they're in the (Semi-) International spotlight, the Indian government should be doing everything within their power to make everything run smoothly.

China managed to do it, and while the Commonwealth games aren't as important as the Olympics, but it still pulls in millions of tourist dollars, and puts Delhi in the eyes of the world.

So should we criticise these athletes for pulling out, or are they doing the right thing?

If I were an athlete, I'd pull out of that mess too. You don't train years just to get hurt in some "accident" (if you can even call it that...more like gross negligence).

Not that I was even aware these games were beginning, so clearly they aren't a huge deal. So I wouldn't say I'm boycotting them so much as continuing to ignore their existence.

I saw this on BBC news earlier today. I'd say that India ought to try to make things better considering that they are, like China, a so-called emerging power in the world. I personally don't care about sports, but even I would consider the thought of collapsing buildings and unhygienic conditions to be quite embarrassing even for a country like India with severe poverty and pollution issues.

I had a problem at the Delhi. My pastrami sandwich was awful.

Wait, what?

China is a much richer country than India. It's tough comparing the too.

In all honesty, these games/olympics and other such events should not rotate countries. All it does is force ridiculous expenditures on venues that never get used in the long run just to host a 2 week party.

There is no reason why they can't just stay in one country for a decade or so, and then rotate to another one if necessary.

I wouldn't go but if athletes that are good enough to get in still want to compete I think they should be supported in that decision.

I wouldn't be so worried about little things like the athlete's drink not having less than a regulation three ice cubes in it. When the managers of the teams are saying "This is sub-standard" you not only get the plain message that while they are people with an interest in going ahead, they feel it must be addressed, but also (to me) a subtext; If this is the state of the venues, what is the state of the organizers? Like stage managers omitting the bowl of certain-colour M&Ms in the dressing room, it's a red flag that more serious problems could be just around the corner.

Its cuz EVERYONE itches for a chance to host the big games and will feel pissed if any 1 country gets to hog it for too long.

On the subject, this is India's screw-up. South Africa isn't in a much better state than india, but the World Cup went off without a hitch. And India could have pulled this off, they knew they were behind schedule early this year already, they could have fixed it.

If i were an athlete, i wouldn't go.

EDIT: Fixed the quote
