Poll: So I've been playing a lot of DOOM recently...

And I was wondering if anyone else had noticed that they use a particular weapon more often than all of the others put together. For me, no matter how powerful a weapon I get (even if I happen to have the BFG-9000 on me), I always seem to use the shotgun. Anyone else have a particular weapon that they use? The thread is not specific to DOOM, but the poll is, for those of us who have played it (is there anyone here who hasn't is the question).

I used the shotgun alot as well, mainly for close encounters.. (Cookies for reference) Other than that, I used the chain gun / plasma.

As long as the ammo lasts ("IDKFA" is inevitable but it gives me a bad conscience) I love metling beasties with the Plasma Rifle.

I use the shotgun the most by far out of any other weapon. There is always ammo for it and packs quite a punch.

The shotgun is always my go-to weapon of choice in Doom (and most other FPS games to be fair). There's always ammo, it's effective against nearly all enemies, and it's a shotgun. Nothing says "You're f*cked" like a shotgun.

Shotgun most of the time. Very effective against everything.

Though in Doom 3 I use the chainsaw. Can instantly kill several demons and helps me save ammo.

I ussually always end up using the chainsaw, only switching to shotgun for the more hard enemies, and pistol for long range... yeah, i know it sounds stupid but it works!

I recall playing DOOM 1 (or was it 2?) when I was much, much younger. 5-ish. Only FPS I could play, really, with aiming being largely unnecessary.

If memory serves, the plasma rifle was completely amazing. So yes, that.

In the average FPS, though? I have a burning hatred of all things SMG (they just never seem to be much good), while a shotgun is practically guaranteed to be amazing. Especially in HL2, that one was just ridiculous.

I loved to play only using the pistols.Its what i generally do if i played a game long enough that it isnt a challenge anymore. Once i managed to nearly finish it just using the fists (shiftrun-punch-fallback-shiftrun-punch-fallback )

in some games i quite like them, especially when they totally suck if you just pull the trigger and spray the magazine. But firing lots and lots of singleshots out of a MP40 in games like CoD2 was just very satisfying fun.

Seeing lots of shotguns, but thats understandable because the Doom shotgun(s) are great.
Obviously mine is shotgun too (OP says most used) but as far as I'm concerned no rocket launcher has ever floated by boat quite like the Doom one. I just love the Fwoom noise it makes when firing... On reflection the Doom guns all sounded fantastic, gaming law states that guns must be satisfying to fire if you are to enjoy playing.

Yeah, shotgun for me as well.

Though whenever I got the chainsaw thats all I'd use for a while. Its just so damn fun.

The Shotgun was my favored weapon in Doom and Doom 2 (though in 2 the Super Shotgun was my pick most of the time). The rocket launcher was reserved for things that took more than two or three shotgun blasts, the chaingun was mostly useful for killing lost souls, the plasma rifle was used in case of emergency, the pistol only when I didn't have any other options and the BFG only in extreme emergency or in the face of Cyberdemons/Spider Masterminds (or the smaller plasma shooting versions who's name I forget).

Shotgun, because it was the most realistically modeled(pixeled?). I'm also surprised at how the shotgun is kicking ass in the poll.

I used the shotgun a lot since there is a ton of ammo for it. Given the choice I prefer the plasma rifle.
