I think it stays better as a game. Part of what makes Bioshock so easy to suck you in, is you never see the main char's face. That makes him easy to put yourself into. If they make a movie . . . they make it MUCH harder to have a silent main, and near impossible for him to not have dialogue. Think about the game . . . he talks once in the whole game other then screams of pain. A movie based on it would require him to not only have a face, but have dialouge. Otherwise we have nothing to go on that we can compare to ourselves. In the game we know what he's feeling on the inside each time he's faced wiht a little sister because it's US facing it. WE decide if they live or die, in a movie, it's decided from the start.

Oh and also, 12-20 hour game cut down to 1 1/2 - 3 hour movie? ouch . . . that hurts

As long as they don't cast The Rock as Jack, they don't fuck up the Big Daddy's design and Uwe Bole doesn't go anywhere near it...

Then it should be a just over average film.
I heard the director is going to be the guy that directed the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

From what I've heard, it'd be a Gore Verbinski (The Ring, Pirates of the Carribean) picture. Uwe Boll won't be within touching distance.

It'll be a disappointment because Jack will get a snarky little-sister side kick that he has to save several times. It's inevitable.

EDIT: "Okey-dokey Mr. Jack, I no touch anything."

One last comment guys. In the game, as I already said, we decide if the little sisters live or die. The game has 2 endings . . . has two "karma paths" if you will . . . I seriously doubt they're going to make 2 movies with Jack working toward saving them on the one side, and working toward killing them all off on the other.

Not to mention that the FCC would have a fucking FIELD DAY on Jack tearing a toddler's supple belly open and pulling out a giant slug . . .

Just saying . . .

film of game... FILM OF GAME

I've yet to see one that was either faithful to the source material or genuinely worth watching. The closest to each would be the first person section of Doom and the first Resident Evil movie. Which is pretty damning of game films when you think about it.

Initialy Bioshock sounded promising, but it's suffered the same talent and budget drain game movies always get.

True.
But someone could say the same thing about Bioshock 2, when you think about it.
Although it's taking place after the good ending.

Why would they? Children die horrifically in movies, books, and tv all the time. It's only in videogames that anyone gives a shit about when stuff like that happens.

OT: Sure Bioshock could make a good movie. Keep the same elements the games plot had and you have a solid film on your hands.

If it has a large enough budget and enough development time, it should be fucking awesome. The first time I played Bioshock, I immediatley thought: this would make a good movie. It's a very cinimatic game, so why not?

They'll most likely shatter all good memories of the game, but still. If it followed the story well it would be great; although I fear the main shock of the movie-to-be wouldn't be as hard-hitting as it was in the game the very first time. Seeing that in a cinema environment though...that would just rawk my sawks.

The question I have is: Why?

Okay, but I just hope they don't fuck it up like every game to movie translation I can think of.... good luck.

It would have to be one long-ass movie (See; Australia) and very well-written for it to work. I would be interested in seeing another character besides Jack, maybe during Rapture's descent into chaos.
