Poll: So, I've heard they're making a Bioshock movie..

I think they could make a really sweet movie, if they just did something else than the main plot, maybe a story about one of the citizens of Rapture leading up to the whole city going bonkers and him/her ending up fighting splicers or becoming one

It would have to be one long-ass movie (See; Australia) and very well-written for it to work. I would be interested in seeing another character besides Jack, maybe during Rapture's descent into chaos.

If they were to do from the perspective of say Tennenbaum or Cohen, without Jack in the film, as Fontaine destroys Rapture, it could really work.
If Jack's the Protagonist though, it will flop.

The brilliance of bioshock was the story, the target audience for a movie will be the gamers who loved the game. They can either go for the original story and dissapoint gamers who know what happens, or they can do what all game-movies do and invent a new story maybe even a new setting and keep one aspect the same, like the main character is still called Jack. Only this time he's a super-soldier with a gun growing out of his penis. BAD IDEA!

Has it occurred to these people that the major dramatic plot twists of BioShock, that which the entire game hinges upon and is probably the defining point that has earned it all it's praise, DOESN'T work in a film?

Unless they go for a Silent Hill style film (which, btw, friggin rocked) and tell the story in the game world, rather than tell the story of the game. Then it could work.

I heard the director is going to be the guy that directed the Pirates of the Caribbean movies.

I personaly believe it needs to be some messed up director because the game itself is a long mind game, and completely strange, and if they leave anything out I would be insanely disapointed

I think I heard about this. I'm pretty sure I read it's gonna be a prequel to Bioshock, with Ryan and Fontaine and stuff.
But I might be making that up.
Either way, I'll probably go see it. Providing I'm 18 when it's released, of course.

Terrible idea. Bioshock was good for one reason: it had among the best creepy atmospheric effects of this generation. The sounds, the lighting, the twisted and insane enemies. What it did not have, however, was a very good story. Good movies live or die by their story elements. Bioshock is not a very good movie candidate in my opinion.

Yes, Silent Hill was not a perfect movie. But it had atmosphere, I cared about the characters, it had some spectacularly inventive uses for barbed wire. You really felt the desperation of a mother searching for the girl amidst all the horror, which is really the goal of any horror film.

But sure, go ahead and laugh. Belittle my opinion without having anything to back it up. Hope it makes you feel good.

I think it stays better as a game. Part of what makes Bioshock so easy to suck you in, is you never see the main char's face.
