I don't have many issues with the new layout, especially since I generally watch Youtube videos on my Ipod... though sometimes, when I'm trying to watch a video off my favorites list, and it says "I don't have permission to open this video". Ummm... what? Also, loading can be a real pain as well.

I have literally never experienced any buffering problems with Youtube. In fact, the only problem I have experienced is the constantly changing format of the site, but even that doesn't annoy me too much.

Oh, and never put the word "bacon" in a poll. The Escapist really likes bacon.
I know, actually. It's an obligatory running gag.
I wasn't aware of that actually, that it was a running gag. I was under the illusion that I was making a hilarious, original joke. I do remember polls from the past which have included bacon, though... now I'm hungry...

keep in mind YouTube doesn't owe you anything, its free entertainment.
That we have to sit through ads to see.

For those suffering buffering woes, try to set your local storage to unlimited:
Right-click on video -> settings -> Adobe Flash Player Settings - Set slider to unlimited.
Cool, this isn't gonna affect my browser negatively will it?

My biggest problem with youtube right now is the way they allow you to stick those annoying tags in every video that cover up part of the screen and distract you from what you're watching. Some people know how to use those responsibly and appropriately, 99% don't.
there are ways to not view adds, that fixes that.

Turning off annotations fixes that, anymore

I think I'll be lazy and say 'all of the above'. If youtube has an error or problem, I've come across it. It's infuriating to deal with some days. Sadly it's so gargantuan now that it's sort of beyond a public outcry of 'give us change'.

Because there's no other service or product out there connected to so many things, offering so much and that compatible with things... At least not with enough decent brand recognition or money to get it off the ground.

If you want your shit seen, most succumb to putting it on youtube...

But they could be less of arrogant jerks about it and fix their shoddy technicals. Keep the people a little less disgruntled and less ready to jump ship should a new service, bigger and better ever arise.

The issue is people will always use it because it is so big, reagrdless of whether they like the design or not. This is especially going to be the case when popular songs can get up to 1 billion views.

My main issue with Youtube is that half the time my British friends link me a video, it's blocked in America because copyright.

Record companies? I won't buy your artists' songs if I don't know what they sound like, and no, I'm not going to open up iTunes just to get a 30-second preview of the part of the song you thought was good. Idiots.

Other than that, I don't really mind it. The only thing I'd suggest is to exempt dial-up, 3G, or satellite users from video ads.

I don't really have a problem with adverts on YouTube. Firefox + Ad Block = what ads? In fact, The Escapist is the only site I have to deal with ads, thanks to Captcha.

I do have a problem with videos randomly restarting from the beginning when it's only half way done. If it's an hour long video and I only managed 30 minutes before that happens, guess who has two thumbs and is fucking angry? Luckily it doesn't happen very often. Yet.

The viewer tracking gets to me though. Some videos I've watched out of curiosity, only to discover how stupid they were and are now forever recommended to me for all time because Big Brother Google is watching me always.

But what really pisses me off on YouTube? Boobs. More specifically, boobs in thumbnails that have absolutely fuck all to do with the content of the video, just to draw in more views. It's just disrespectful to me, as a man, to use titties to draw my attention only to deny me those sweet, sweet jubblies I was promised by the thumbnail in the link.

Every step forward in design has only made it look worse and worse on high-resolution monitors - EVEN ON CHROME! The browser that was basically built for perfect Youtube compatibility!

The new "buffering" system can eat shit, videos which are shorter than 30 seconds take forever to load and keep re-buffering till I want to rip my hair out, the horrific loading speeds on almost every video (over the past 2-3 weeks) can die, etc etc stuff others have already said.

I'm not expecting Youtube to work perfectly 100% of the time but this is GOOGLE we are talking about, they are supposed to be the saviors of the internet! Whoever is in charge of the new layouts needs to be shot.

Phew, glad I got that off my chest.

As someone who uploads Let's Plays to YouTube constantly I have a lot to say about it.
For one the copyright system is downright broken and needs to be overhauled greatly. Then the fact that they keep on trying to get me to change my YouTube name to be my actual name! I chose Roxas1359 because I don't wanna use my actual name dammit!
Finally I despise the YouTube One layout for channels as it makes channel customization less personal. I enjoy making the backgrounds to represent my projects and with that ability gone I'll be very sad. Luckily it has forced me to change it yet.

Besides youtube one, which is fucking horrible, I have several problems
Advertisements at the END of videos
I watch a lot of playlists, and this results in me getting double the ads (one at the end of video one, then one at the start of video 2) back to back.

Video reloading when I exit full screen
Maybe I'm watching a full screen video and someone messages me. I click the minimize button or whatever you want to call it, and the fucking entire video starts reloading again... and plays another goddamn advertisement.
This only happens when EXITING fullscreen, not when going INTO fullscreen.

Not playing in the resolution I set it to
I generally fullscreen a video, then set it to 1080p. The little gear happily displays a red HD marker over it, but the video is still in fucking 360p and i have to switch back to 360p then back to 1080p to get it to fucking load in fucking HD. Sometimes this causes another fucking ad to play. Sorry for the profanity, but thinking about this upsets me.

Some nights it's just really slow
I don't truly know why. I can usually load a 1080p video without any problems, but sometimes it just doesn't work. OTHER videos work, but not the one I want to watch.

while there are a lot of issues with youtube, it's currently my primary media source, so it must be doing something right, lol

For the most part, videos play rather well on youtube, I wont complain about it. BUT WHY THE F DO THEY KEEP CHANGING THE GUDDAMN INTERFACE. OK I WANNA CHECK PLAYLIST! FU! WE MOVED THE BUTTON! MUHAHAHAHAHAHA! DIEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE.... this is what happens. Why can't they update their software while maintaining a beautiful homey experience. I feel very comfortable when I know where everything is... why can't we have that? I've seen this with other software as well, I understand that we are just lab rats and they're testing new things on us... but boy... some of those ideas they have, really suck.

/venting over.

You do realize that while youtube does get a profit from ads, the main people you'll hurt will be content providers right?

Since video's don't have to be monetized, it clearly isn't youtubes main source of revenue, it's how people who make a living off youtube, well, make a living off youtube. Adblock barely hurts youtube, it just hurts people who work all day to make you entertained.
There is a saturation point where people cease to care about that sort of thing. Actually, his action probably barely hurts anyone at all, and gets him what he wants out of a site instead of their crappy works making things miserable.

Oh, whatever could you mean?

I assume these "ways" work in all browsers, my school computers all use ie8 and you can't install new programs on them.

I'm not a huge fan of the way I was forced to create a gmail account in order to continue using my youtube account. That seems kinda anti-competitive and rude, and I can't think of a single reason for it. How are gmail and youtube linked in any meaningful way other than being owned by the same company? I'll admit I don't use gmail so maybe there's something I don't know about.

I don't like how when you pause a video it stops buffering, usually I pause videos to allow it to buffer.

And isn't weird how when you click to an earlier point in the video than where you are, how it has to rebuffer from that point again? Shouldn't it still have that portion saved already? If you replay the video it has to reload it all again? I guess they assume everyone has wonderfully fast internet.

While I know the new site design is optional, I don't like it, Game Grumps uses it and it took me at least 5 minutes to figure out where the playlists were hidden. Also, it used to be obvious when you were on a channel page, now with the new layout channel pages look identical to every other type of page, same layout, same lain white background. Navigating the website is now harder than I ever remember it being.

For some reason embedded videos don't work for me in ie, they used to, but not anymore, I have to go to the youtube page itself to view them.

On the side panel for every video it used to show a list of similar or related videos. Now it uses your viewing history to guess what other types of videos you might want to watch next, meaning the side panel is often filled with videos completely unrelated to the one you're currently watching, most of which you've seen before. You can fix this by logging out, but that seems like an odd thing to have to do.

and I don't even use youtube that much anymore.

Yeah, I've a good internet connection, the only thing is the ads on the mobile sites, I don't get ads on the desktop site however.

Remember how they used to have that little menu bar you could pull down above a video to show the next 20 videos by the same uploader? Yeah, I used that ALL the time and I want it back.

Yep, definitely agree with the "losing signal" issue- I'm glad to find out I'm not the only one who has that problem.
I also hate the fact they have constant updates and redesigns of the website that makes it a ***** to navigate for about a week or two until you finally get the hang of it. No one at Youtube seems to understand the concept of not fixing something that isn't broken.

It also tried to changed my username to my real name (to do with linking it all up with my G+ account) I don't want to do that, I want to keep my username. It's let me keep it... for now. I don't like how people's comments are with their name, not usernames any more.
It does the same to me just about every time I want to comment on a video. Except that it asks me if I want to link it with my real name on my Facebook account.

After I find the way to say no, because it doesn't directly let me say no, I can comment, and it doesn't ask again for another few comments, but then it will start again by asking me if I want to use my real name, because it says it is easier and all.

I would tell them, "You know what is easier!? Just letting me comment and be done with it!"
You're getting better treatment than I am, then. I can't comment at all anymore without it demanding that I set up a "channel" in my legal name and then be okay with it also making me a Google+ page and crap.

Nor can I add videos to the playlists I already had without it trying the same crap.

Its really starting to piss me off to the point where I'm contemplating abandoning YouTube for good. My comments and playlists worked just fine before they decided everything needed to be legal name'd and monetized. And some people have good reasons for not wanting their real name all over the internet. How about Fucking respecting that instead of repeatedly demanding I bend to your will, and denying me the ability to do anything at all if I don't? Fucking Google.
