I'd rather give 'Movie Bob' another show, or 'Yahtzee', and remove Jim myself.

Still, it COULD get good...at some point.

I actually disliked (using mild words here) the first few episodes, but he's seriously getting better.
Now I can actually stand to finish an entire episode. As I've said in another thread before, if he keeps up this rate of improvement, it might actually end up being a show that I look forward to.

I do stand-up satire and I know I could NEVER use that excuse.
Also I would never use it to undermine the whole point of what I am trying to do

I won't watch bad comedy that tells an 'ok, but a bit oddly thought out' message about gaming, for the same reason I wouldn't read a Book of Mormon that had been etched into a turd.

Also Jim has some good points in him (some), but I think he has chosen the wrong format to express them in.

Well he makes some good points but I don't like the way he executes his discussion of them.

For example with the CoD episode I felt he made many valid points especially with regards to not judging a person by what they play (See the rest of discussion) but the mock [sub](mostly anyway)[/sub] arrogance and often childish humour (eg Flower-hat dude from CoD episode... link above^^) really puts me off.

Overall it's a no, although I'll probably continue watching a couple more episodes to be sure he's going to stick with the current format.

He indeed gots some good points but he's just a trolling when he makes them, too extreme thoughts, and he isn't funny

I'm really in two minds about him. He does touch on some interesting and valid points, although his sense of humour needs a bit of work. Also, he seems to alternate between (relatively) serious episodes and ones that are just piss-takes.

Also, I'm really not sure how seriously he's taking himself. Like how Yahtzee in real life and Yahtzee on the show aren't really the same person, I'm not sure if Jim is just doing more piss-taking by acting like he's God, or if he actually does think he's God. Personally, I'm going to give him the benefit of the doubt.

He's also a good alternative to Extra Credits, if you think they're too pretentious, ripping off Yahtzee or you hate Daniel Floyd's voice.

I'm CMDR. Shepard, an this is my least favourite show on the escapist.

let's face it, Jim is tired, unoriginal, not charismatic in the least, dances around the issue, has views that have all been said before and isn't funny in the least.

I was prepared to like him, but now I just think of him as an annoying, fat southerner (that's south england, not USA)
:( Don't bring South England into it. We don't want him...We could ship him off to the Isle of Wight or something.

OT: I don't like him, I think he's an unintelligent idiot. -.-

I really cant stand the amount of people that want him removed just because they don't watch his show, after all your not forced to watch it.
If I had my way I would remove plenty of things from The Escapist, however I am what you call considerate so I don't feel the urge to complain. (excluding these Jim is awful threads)

He has gotten better, I will give him that.
I also love how he potrays himself as though he thinks that he is God's gift to the world.

He has gotten better, I will say that.

So yes, I like him

Nor are you forced to read what they have to say. Please guys, can we drop this "Don't like, don't watch" mentality? It does not really work.

My opinion that he is a massive nobhead will most likely never change, but I watch every now and again just in case. The accent is fake though, I tell you.

Regardless, this is the fifth or sixth thread I've seen about him so... yeah.

I'll put it this way.I like it and I hate it, the last Episodes have gotten better, especially the one about CoD was something that had to be said to shut a few people up. But I don't like the Persona, ofcourse it's just a Character Jim, I realize that you present yourself blown out of proportion, I just don't think it's funny, at all. So, in short, I like in general alot of what he has to say, but I think he tries waaaaay too hard with the persona.

I have the same Problem with MovieBob aswell, sometimes the Episodes of his Shows are really good and at others it is nearly impossible to not notice that Bob doesn't have enough Knowledge on the subject by a longshot and shouldn't be speaking of it at all. So with the PC Gaming is dead Episode where he portrays owning a PC as if nothing had changed in the last 10-15 Years or his failure to understand that Tablets and Laptops are PC's too.

So, in general, I could say that I never really can say that I wholeheartedly agree with every Contributer, it's all hit&miss, even with Yahtzee, the only Guys I give the benefit of the doubt are the Extra Credits people because I don't really know the Game Dev biz. If I could give Jim any tip at all, I would tell him to back off with showing himself at all, not only is the video quality of those segments terrible, but it's also rather obvious that it's a persona wen you take a glance at him, he should try to leave his actual looks ambitious. Also, he sounds really stupid when he trys to sarcastically imitate something, he needs to work on that too. The Show in and of itself is ok, Jim himself is the Problem he needs to work on.
Couldn't agree more, Yahtzee has become too comical for my liking now forced to moan even on the smallest point even when its perfectly good, just to appease the crowds the like his humor more then his opinion.

Sadly I liked him more at the start. If you haven't noticed he had to amplify his humor and make it more obvious so people would not be oblivious to it. Mostly because many many many of the escapees didn't understand his humor to start with.

I think that's exactly the issue I take with his show. His points are usually quite good and he has well formed arguments backing up his opinions most of the time.

Although on the other hand I just can't stand his humor. I find the whole "Greatest man on the earth" parody he plays up just grates on my ears and half of his jokes really fall flat.

I feel inclined to defend him as I want to watch the show, and due to these threads and the forums hate towards him I may end up losing out on something I enjoy massively.
Also how does the "Don't like, don't watch" mentality?" not work?
If its the "bad representation of the website" crap then I'll end my conversation with you now.

I've watched a few of Jims videos now and I think he could be so much better if he included a few minor changes to his show. The obvious comparison for me with with Jim and Zero Punctuation and the following are just some opinions on why Jims show seems to just fall a little flat for me.

a) ZP's genuinely funny, and along with his funny dialogue he includes usually hillarious visual puns, I don't think it would be as enjoyable if he just filmed himself and threw in videograbs of the games.

b) Yahtzee comes up with good points that I wouldn't have thought up otherwise and for the most part agree with. This isn't Jims fault but I find it hard to laugh at jokes when I'm consistently condradicting him in my mind.

c) Yahtzee's persona is harsh but also has shown balance in his opinions along with some self-deprecating humor which helps us like the character. As well as ripping into franchises he actively points out ways to make them better whether it be through constructive critisism on Extra Punctuation or in the videos themselves.

These are just a few things that were rattling around in my head when I saw this thread, I don't think things should be cancelled because they're not universally applauded though. If that were the case they may as well rename the site the Yahtzee and MovieBob site....Or YahtzeeBob.

P.S. I'll give jiim one thing though, he picked an awesome song as the theme.

If its the "bad representation of the website" crap then I'll end my conversation with you now.

The flawed argument of ?If you don?t like it, then don?t watch it?

I?m sure plenty of you must have heard this argument, and it usually happens because of one single reason: you criticized a Youtube reviewer hence labeled a troll.

Well, don?t worry about it: this argument is as flawed as it can get since it?s used by trolls and fanboys alike to defend their ?new? ?comedic? ?God?.

There are mainly two problems with this sort of argument, both focusing mainly on the hypocrisy of it, twisting and twirling around it like mad vultures flying around a rotten animal carcass.

The first flaw is quite basic: it can be applied to anyone, anywhere, on the slightest flinch, which is the first sign of a dumb phrase. To put it simply, if one tells you ?if you don?t like it, then don?t watch it? to a critical comment you wrote on somebody?s YouTube channel, then by only saying ?if you don?t like my comment, then don?t read it?, it all pretty much falls to pieces right there.

This is where the whole thing falls apart in the bad antics display that always infect the fanboy hive mind, this phrase is always considered to be ?the phrase? to be used if you want to sound smart, sassy, and just an overall master of comebacks?and it very well might be.

But it isn?t due to the wrong concept and poor timing of it or the standard use by the YouTube hive mind. It also comes down to; whoever?s using it is likely a dumb and silly little troll.

In short: It really makes no sense to demand somebody who just watched something from YouTube (which is actually public for a reason) NOT to say anything bad about it and to DEMMAND that they close the window and say nothing about it all.
HOW IS THAT EVEN SUPPOSED TO WORK IN THE FIRST PLACE? YouTube comments in the end aren?t there only to spew positive comments to whatever video there is since luckily for us, we?re not trapped in a world where everybody has the same taste. To demand not to say ANYTHING bad to ANYBODY is a human impossibility to the nth degree, since, if such thing was even possible we wouldn?t have YouTube reviewers to begin with.

If criticism is what you?re watching, then criticism is what you?ll receive all the time, not praise. That?s how the real world works, and that?s how it will always work: ?If I watch something something and don?t like it, I have all the reasons to point out why I didn?t like it.?

The standard trolls of the hive mind think of the argument as perfect and flawless, when they don?t see that their simple phrase can be used ad continuum thanks to the inherent flaw of it trying to be used to stop a comment which, in reality, is nothing more than a simple opinion piece, or a review even, and that?s what brings us to the second and perhaps most hurtful flaw:

You?re using the argument to protect A REVIEWER from receiving negative comments, when a reviewer actually watches stuff he doesn?t likes and rant about it endlessly to begin with (a.k.a: hypocrisy). This point is far easier to point out due to the natural INAPLIABILITY to the whole thing and how absurd the argument gets when it goes full circle and that you boil it down to one single thing

Not everyone is going to like everything.
http://thebusystreet.com/2011/01/12/dont-like-it-dont-watch-it/

In other words, anything said can be turned around.
It does not really work when you think about it.

I do like Jim though, and I think he can get better.

I don't like Blond-girl-with-boobs-top-5 but I don't start *****-threads about it nonstop, because I simply don't watch her.
And no, this will never be a democracy. We won't get to vote on who stays and who does not. If so, I'd imagine several of the escapists staff getting their budget cut.

Oh look, this thread again.

OT: I like him just fine. Not all episodes are good, but they aren't flat out bad either.
Don't like it? Don't watch it.
