I hope you all realize you're discussing Anonymous as it was mid 2006. Now it's just a bunch of 15-17 year olds posting porn and trying to get posts with identical numbers as the last two digits of their post numbers (A.K.A. dubs). If you don't believe me, go check for yourself.

It's no organization, hell it's barely referred to as Anonymous anymore (except by 13 year olds who are years late and want to be part of a movement so they can tell their friends about it). If you all think it has any influence at all anymore, you're horribly mistaken.

EDIT: Let me put it this way. /b/, the board on 4chan you're probably all referring to, is more akin to Gaia now than what you're discussing.

I was referring to the more public acts, like the ones with the corruption in Wisconsin and Wikileaks, I have no honest idea about them on 4chan as I never go on that site

Not sure, actually. One the one hand, I applaud them for standing up for their beliefs... but something about them creeps me out. Maybe it's the whole faceless army thing that makes me uncomfortable...

Um... Anonymous = 4chan. Whenever you post on there, your name is by default Anonymous, hence the name. Where did you think everything was getting organized? SA?

I'd probably also guess anything public done after 2010 wasn't the work of them, they can't organize anything for shit now. Any group can blame them as an easy out.

I also find them to be highly hypocritical. How can you fight for the freedom to access information, when you're keeping information about yourself a secret?
Hi, my name is John Doe, I live at 123 made Up Street. I wish to take a stand online against corruption, abuse of power, and suppression of information and human rights. ...oh I've been arrested, well that was short-lived.

Knowing my name is information no-one needs to know. When a government breaks the law and tries to hide it, that's information everyone should know, it's not hypocritical at all.

4chan is arguably the birthplace of Anon. Now the connection is only loose.

I think that describes 99% of /b/ for sure.

I think anyone like you or me who may go to 4chan and just discuss videogames or whatever... Well that's no movement. There is no better cause, i really don't care what /b/ side of the board is doing at any given moment, and don't participate in raids. I'm 26, and i have frankly much better things to be doing!

I mean, can i even say i'm anonymous? I'm anonymous as an individual, but all i use 4chan for is to talk to like minded people on subjects I have an interest in.

Ok now I'm starting to wonder, what does this group of people hope to accomplish, like what do they think will happen in the future from their crusade

I'm really not sure. As of late, I've supported most of what they're doing. And admittedly, a group of anyone and everyone that has no official stance seems like it might be helpful to ordered, free society (assuming that does not become the model for society as a whole). But they also scare me. What they are doing borders on cyber-terrorism, and I don't look forward to seeing where it leads.

Where do I stand? On the sidelines as a neutral observer. I'll only interfere should it become necessary.

Why does the word terrorism get thrown around so much regarding Anon?

Terrorism is to obtain your goals by terror, Anon inflict inconvenience, they bring out dirty secrets, no one is terrified.

I'm pretty sure the U.S. government started this whole terrorism=Anon thing just so the people would be scared of them and so not support them.

Na, that was Fox News with their whole "hackers on steroids" report. That's when 4chan, and in turn Anon really blew up in size.

Internet Hate Machine oh noes <youtube=0DoDLyx4OSY>

Good point, U.S. government; I apologise. Though they have continued the fine tradition of misinformation started by Fox.

99% of the guys outside of /b/ are actually cool dudes with relatively normal outlooks on life. Hell, even on the /tv/ board, they regularly run live streams of American TV (i'm European, so it's often impossible to watch it live from the US in any legit way), and it's pretty cool.

I really resent the image of 4chan being some super hard site for hackers and trolls. /b/ is for trolls, there is no hacking segment, and the rest of the site is just fine. Seriously.

I don't really like them. The only thing I really remember them doing that is any good is standing up against censorship with the wikileaks thing. I also remember then going around attacking peoples religion. The religion here being scientology. Which, no matter what you think about it, isn't cool to do to ANY religion.

Whole different issue there kid. I don't care what official standing they have, Scientology is a cult, and a dangerous one at that. Just as you have the right to speak for them, i have the same right to speak against them, and if some people want to protest against them, well they have that right as well.
