I'm getting a Ps3 soon, the 320 Gb model, yeah! It was a easy choice after owning 1 and 2 and so on.

But, I would like to know is there backwards compability of any kind on this model? I read somewhere that you can play some Ps 1 games, but not Ps2...but what games exactly? anybody have a list?

I have all three. I think you need to ask yourself a few questions. Do you like mods? If so then get a pc. Do you like blu ray movies and exclusives? Then get a PS3. Do you want fast downloads and xbox exclusive games? Then get an xbox.

I went from PS1 to PS2 and then to an Xbox 360 due to it's cheaper price. After three years of replacements and poor construction I gave up and went over to the PS3, and haven't really been disapointed. However the only downside is that all my friends, and I mean, ALL, have Xbox 360's so while I'm still able to play online (for free mind :)) it's a little sad I can't actually play alongside them. Bad Company 2 isn't really the same with my tank commander, cannon fodder and sniper trio by my side.

I really need to know because I'm still deciding on getting and Xbox 360 or a PlayStation 3 and they both seem to be just as good as one another, apart from the games that are exclusively built for one of them. So the two tie breakers are how many people play online and what games are exclusively built that I like.

So Escapist how many of you play PlayStation 3's online? Do enough people play online so that I could play a less popular game and still get enjoyment out of online multi player? What kind of game are exclusively built for PlayStation 3?

Please feel free to add information I haven't asked for, like how good are PlayStation 3's graphics because I still have to reassure myself on a few factors about the PlayStation 3.

P.S. I haven't looked into the games exclusively for PlayStation 3, I only know of two that I want which are MAG and Siren Blood Curse.

P.P.S. I hear that almost all of the Xbox 360's exclusives come out on the computer (excluding Halo and a few others) while the PlayStation 3's don't is this true?

EDIT: Heavy Rain looks good and it is for PS3. Also I probably will pick myself up a copy of Black Ops sooner or later and I'm sure the online will be great with that.
I know it's not what you asked, but if you want to play FPS online GET A PC. It's just better. In every way.

We have a PS3 at my house and it's fucking awesome - the console that finally reignited my interest in console gaming. It's really come into its own since GT5 came out (that game is absolutely incredible) and I hear a lot of good things about a few of the other exclusives. I've also had a lot of joy coaxing my female totally anti-gamer housemate into playing Portal (she now plays GT5 and GTA4 sometimes as well - Portal win!) and accepting that games can be fun, something I couldn't have achieved with my PC version (though the reason she was up for playing it at all was because she watched me playing it on the PC projected onto my wall so it was 6 feet across), but if you're actually a gamer I couldn't possibly recommend it relative. And TF2/HL2 are just laughable on the PS3.

EDIT: The PS3's media centre capabilities are really very useful as well, though I couldn't say how that compares the the 360. Certainly the ability to watch blu-rays has been greatly appreciated by my household (but then we do have a fucking massive TV so it is required).

I'd go with Playstation 3 - I've had one for a while, and it has served me well that entire time. Plus, PS3 has some awesome exclusives. I know 360 has games like Fable, Halo, and Gears, but PS3 has:

Metal Gear Solid 4
LittleBigPlanet (and soon LittleBigPlanet 2)
Uncharted 1 & 2 (and soon 3!)
Killzone 2 (soon 3)
Resistance 1 & 2 (and soon 3)
Demon's Souls
God of War 3
Gran Turismo 5
Heavy Rain
InFamous (soon 2!)
The Ratchet and Clank games

Plus, "The Last Guardian" will be out next year, and I have a feeling that game will be totally awesome, so yeah. Both the 360 and PS3 have excellent game libraries - it really just comes down to what you like. Personally, I'm really happy with my PS3, and I'd definitely recommend it.

I own a 360, PS3 and Gamecube. I use my gamecube more than my PS3, which has been assigned designated blu ray player. The console isn't bad but I dislike the controller. Also, every time you buy a new game you go through a long ritual in which the game is installed onto the hard drive which is a bit off-putting. I play my 360 more than anything else though not online. Not often anyway...I have been wanting to get back into Reach.

Xbox live costs five dollars a month. If you can not afford five dollars a month you are in serious financial trouble. You also get better service and downloadable content sooner than the ps3 guys. I highly recommend the xbox 360.

Well i have both a 360 and a PS3. I prefer the PS3 by far. Mostly because my 360 has died 4 times now and my ps3 once. My current 360 is gathering dust after i played through the dissapointment that is Fable III. Hell the only 360 exclusive that i enjoyed was Alan Wake. Gears bored me to tears (no srsly it sucked IMO) and Halo the same. Online is costly and XBL is full of 10 year olds anyway. Horrible online community. Only good thing was the support. Got the 360 back fairly quick. None of the future 360 exclusives interest me. The PS3 has everything i need. BD compability, cheap removable harddrives,Lots of different kinds of exclusives that interest every age group,The online community isn't filled with armchair commandos,Online is free i could go on but ye. So IMO PS3 is the way to go. Ye i regsistered just to post this.

I use my PS3 for single-player games (I hardly ever play online through PSN because I only have about 3 games that are multiplayer) and BBC iPlayer. I use the 360 mainly for online play, and the Wii is somewhere underneath this dust *brushes dust away* I've started to get more games through Steam now, especially since they're selling Mac-compatible games.

PS3 and Xbox 360 owner.
I first got the PS3, but I didn't know how to get it online, so I played all my PS2 games on it. The next year got a 360. I played both evenly for about 3 years, then I figured out how to get my Xbox online.
I was low on cash so this time last year I figured out a way to connect to Xbox Live using my Laptop. I don't no what I did, but I almost made it so that my Laptop could never connect to the internet again. I finally came up with the hundred dollars to buy a wireless adapter. Then I started to neglect PS3.
I started buying more 360 games and I only had 2 for my PS3 [I sold games to get credit] and about ten for my 360. I was even in negotiations to sell my PS3. But then I realized, it was bought at launch for 600 dollars, and I owed it to at least try and play it more.
I managed to get it online [quicker and easier than the Xbox] last month. I had no idea it had a wireless router built in. With the arrival of Black Ops I'm starting to find that balance again. And I find more high pitched voices on PS3 and more racist on 360.
I think the Wii is innovative, but until it gets a few more upgrades and pops out a few more mature [not the rating, but the feel] I won't be getting one.
I loved my DS. I say loved because it sadly broke. But my Birthday is around the 3DS launch so that problem will be fixed soon. I had a PSP. I say that the way someone would say, I had a painful bowel movement. I wanted one so bad, and when I got one, I don't think I bought more than 7 games for it. Eventually I sold most of them, I lost the charger and the joystick fell so I was basically was jamming my thumb in a stick.
I want to be a PC gamer. Honestly. I got Portal on Steam when it was free and love it. I tried get the JC2 Demo because I heard of the hacks making it awesome, and it turns out my Laptop just wasn't made for gaming. I checked and the best gaming laptop out there is around 3000 dollars. Don't expect me to be on Steam any time soon.

Not to make lists but Ps3 has free online, which is awesome, and we get awesome exclusives like Uncharted 3, Killzone 3, God of War 3, Infamous 2, and alot more!!! 360 gets... uhm... Gears of War 3?

You are btw like 3 years to late with that troll-post =)
And Halo, and Fable, and xbl exclusives, and PGR, and Forza... you get the point. And, as a matter of fact, GoW is coming to xbox :)
