It's a big step down from SR2 in the story department. And there are tons of glitched that will drive you nuts if you're going after all the achievements in the game.
Huh, really? I can't think of any major glitches that bugged me. Admittedly I'm not at 1000/1000 yet but I've done the vast majority of 'chievements thus far. Completed the story mode, assassination missions, over half of the challenges, stuff like that.

I'm having fun but the lack of secret locations and the fact they subbed missions for side quests is a bit of a let down.

Vehicles and weapons make for awesome rampages through the city.

It's great fun. Still less than 10% done since I stopped doing the main missions to go on a massive assassination spree (finished all already).
You actually haven't, as more unlock later in the game.

But I was curious, SR2 was really one of my all time favourites.
Is there as much to do in The Third as in 2?
Is it just as over the top?

Basicly, is it just as fun as the second?
As much to do? No. Not quite. Some of the sidemissions are gone and a few of the missions are playing the current side missions. There's still several collectibles and the like for exploration, so there's that.

It's more over the top. You get laser designators and RC guns and airstrikes, not to mention VTOLs. Hell, the first real mission of the game has you fight your way to the back of a plane, jump out, rescue an ally, then go through a completely different plane and two freefall shootouts.

Not to mention, Glitches that will drive you nuts if you're trying to play the game.

Seriously, falling through scenery, getting caught in scenery, random freezes, times where the game will just stop accepting controller response when I'm in a car (Got it back when someone pulled me out), STUPID AI, etc.

Got it but, no I'm not having fun. There are many many reasons but the main....

killing off the best character in the series in the second mission, never a good idea
Admittedly, that was crap.

I got it after and completed it before Skyrim, I LOVE the Saints Row games, everything was bigger, better (except the clothing) and wilder, took a hell of a lot of influence from Tron and A-Team but worked so well

I have it and I love it. The insane things I can do in the game make it far better then SR2 and I didn't think that would happen with SR3. So far this is my game of the year with Portal 2 as a very close second.

I liked the sillyness in Saint's Row 2, but the storyline was tight, Carlos death, Aisha's death and funeral, brilliant moments that made you go "WTF!" there was none of that in Saint's Row the Third for me, and the endings just made me mad!

I do miss taxis though. Those were convenient.
I agree there, before you get the (admittedly awesome) VTOL jet getting to each mission can seem a little long-winded. Once you have the VTOL at your crib though you don't even need to land it: Fly in a straight line to the mission start at top speed, parachute out over your target and let the jet crash hundreds of metres further on. You can always get another one! :p

Switching between Skyrim and Saints Row.

Saints Row is great, but very disappointed with character and clothing customization. No idea why it seems to have taken a step back from Saint's Row 2. Particularly in light of the fact that they make a huge deal about uploading images of your character to their website.

It's like, "Here, you have far less options for character customization than you did in the last game. Why don't you post your rather similar looking characters for others to note this as well?"

One of the funnest things I did with SR2 was make co-op with a friend wherein we both made characters that looked and dressed exactly like we do in real life. That is simply no longer possible.

That said, I really like how neighborhoods are controlled, the upgrades to weapons, gangs, etc. and many other things about the game. That the enemies occasionally have a couple of tougher guys makes it a lot more challenging than just gunning down all the peons. Very much reminds me of inFamous and facing down a large group of foot soldiers with one conduit attacking. Adds a level of tactics that was missing. I never really ate much food in SR2, but I miss it now.

Over all, a lot of fun.

Oh, one more gripe: they keep giving me little help messages long after they are needed, but which block a good chunk of the screen. Running from a gang and cops? Here, look at this message about how you can do assassination missions, even though you've assassinated like 30 people already.

edit: oh, yeah. And every time Shaundi opens her mouth and something other than Eliza Dushku's voice comes out, I wish she had been killed off in the opening minutes of the game. Preferably before speaking.

I'm getting it for Christmas, since I got skyrim on my birthday, a SR came out afterwards. Can't wait to play it! I've already created my characters on the demo.

It is the best in the series by far.
So wacky, and so fun.
really got to disagree I really hate a bunch of things they did while I love alot of other things they added.

Pro's: Weapon upgrading
More side things to do
Movements more versatile
More moves to do
Better looking clothes and more versatile styles
More types of enemies
Stronger stylization of characters so it looks better
Much stronger graphics
Easier to drop your notoriety

Con's: Less activities
Less Weapons
Less clothing
Characters look very different from number 2
Story line lacks coherency at points
Voice actors for characters are completely different except Gatts
Characters personalities have completely changed including your own character
Online pass so you can't buy used
Songs in the game are not as good as the second (this is preference)
Less cut scenes to explain the story aswell as complete removal for actives so you
don't know why you are doing the things you do
Shorter campaign
No upgradable cribs (for the most part)
Smaller map

It was definitely fun, but I just felt like something was missing. Can't put my finger on it, something just feels like it was left out.

I know the music sucked. I had it turned off the whole time I couldn't find a station I liked.

I liked both the endings (though not that epilogue...It was annoying to play through). And much of the story. My only problem was there wasn't enough of it or enough freedom. No "tackle this gang or this gang," just "You're going after Morningstar now, because I SAID SO!"

Padding the story by making you "conquer your fear" with side missions and such was just annoying. I already played most of them by that point anyway.

Unless you pay attention to the actual dialogue, at which point you know exactly why you're doing it. Even if the reasons are stupid.

Yes, and I'd been modding it quite a bit lately. I'm loving my 100 missile airstrike. Hoping someone can make it so that you can have more than 3 followers. I want my Condor full dammit! If someone wants me to try my hand at something just message me and I'll do my best.

love it. and like all awesome games - its too short.

the new upgrade system is cool, too bad you cant switch off what you bought
(you can buy immortality, but one you do, you have to live with it.... FOREVER!)

so, shorter, sillier, less customizable, maybe... MAYBE a bit more fun than 2.

i like it but I'm hoping that the DLC will add some more to it as it seems a little slim atm.

Pretty sure I'm getting it as an xmas gift from the wife so I'm not going to buy it now. Skyrim however is great time and should keep me very occupied until that time.

I've heard nasty rumors that many of the old characters didn't make it. Pierce is my main man and that would make me very sad.

I love Saints Row 3. The only issue I have is with small details like Shaundi's character remix or the radio being less fun (I miss extreme chase scenes while playing land down under).

Having said that, I made the slight mistake of going out and doing everything in the sandbox before the plot, so the difficulty curve was a little too easy for my near-invincible character.
