You might have come acroos a commercial for the movie the box, and if you havnt, this is the question:

I have a button. If you press it, you will recieve 1 million dollars, but a random person around the world will die.

Im going to add this factor, though. The person that dies is outside of your family.

So would you press it? I dont think I could. It would scrape away at me throughout my life.
yes easy think how many orphans died in a sweat shop making your shoes?
and by chance it would probably be someone in India of something.

I'd press it, what are the chances of me being even remotely affected by the death of a random person? It's easy to kill when they aren't in front of you, and you don't know anything about them. Sure if we knew it was a convicted pedo that would die, I'd push without hesitation and know I made the world a better place. What if it was a family guy, who works hard, love his kids - I couldn't do it.

Jesus Christ Hollywood, who keeps writing this shit?

They take a minor scenario concept from "The Dark Knight" and turn it into a feature length film?

How do movies like this get written? I'm guessing there's either post-it (sticky) notes and a handful of darts involved, or a tank full of manatees and 'idea balls' a'la Southpark.

I'm not wasting my time or money seeing this movie. Not even worth a download.

Uh, not that I download movies or anything, I've just heard about people doing it...

The money would be nice but I don't think I could live with myself knowing I killed someone.
Yes but does it say anywhere that its you that's killing them? Nope, all the story says is that if you push the button, someone dies. Still a stupid premise and a weak plot.

There'd better be lotsa boobies and gore, or this flick is gonna die fast...

No. Absolutely not. A cash value can't be attached to a person's life.

It pains me that some people are actually selfish enough to say that they would. Hopefully, should the theoretical situation ever become a reality, the people claiming they'd press the button would decide that they couldn't do it.

Also, people justifying their self-centered claims with various reasoning (charity, etc.) are wrong. Who are they to decide if someone deserves to die?

Even if it wasn't technically you, you caused them to die so it was still your fault.

Haven't seen the movie itself though. It looks good but it's not a top priority to see right now.

I can't even think about this question...the entire concept of the movie just makes my head hurt. Not the concept itself, but where it came from.

The original short story was written by Richard Matheson, an absolutely brilliant science fiction/fantasy writer. He was also responsible for some of the greatest episodes of The Twilight Zone ever, including "Little Girl Lost" and arguably the most famous episode ever, "Nightmare at 20,000 Feet" (There's.......something on the wing)

The original story is as simple as it gets...they get the button offer. They press the button, they get the cash. When the man returns, they realize that the next person they give it to...when that person presses the button, THEY will die.

From what I read in the movie, the actual pressing of the button happens about 8 minutes in, leaving the rest of the movie to meander about with mind control and Mars. I'm serious here.

It's just another example of Hollywood taking a simple but brilliant concept, completely ruining anything that was interesting about it, and crapping it into theaters. It just....

Aaaagh. Angry.

for all of you who say they press it and donate it to charity imagine walking up to a person and saying "I am gonna kill you for money and donate it" Buy more then likely those people be in china and India so if you press it 10000 times and it still be unlikely for it to be even in your state.

At this point in life, I would take any easy money. It would bother me for about twenty minutes until I realized I could get through school three times over with it.

No. Because, as the movie preview suggests, knowing karma it will be someone important to me, if not myself.

Its almost certain that the person's death wouldn't even reach your ears. You probably wouldn't know it had even happened short of someone saying that it has.
