Hello escapists. This is one of these superpower threads again. its been bugging me a while so i though id throw it at you as well.

Here is a situation, lets say that you got bit by a radioactive spider in a molecular disintegrator on an alien planet with .
The result is you can alter peoples actions by touch. When you touch people you make them like you more.

The mechanic:

Only skin to skin contact counts. One touch counts as one touch untill you let go. you can hang on for hours and it would count as one touch or you can repeatedly touch 10 times in a minute.

One touch gives you 10 points on the "liking" scale
The scale goes from 0 to 100, where 0 is complete indifference (negative numbers are dislike, going from 0 indifference to -100 making their sole purpose in life to kill you), liking you more and more at 50 you could talk a person into a lot of things (for example sex), at 80 you could talk it into doing anything (even killing himself), at 90 you would have a complete slave and at 100 a person would do anything to remain clinged onto you fanatically.
The scale is influenced by your touches and peoples feelings so you may meet a person and start at various levels of the scale depending on the persons opinion and it would be influenced by your action. for example if you have a person with 70 on the scale and you shoot his leg, he would drop 60 points, when normally it would make him hate you here he would become indifferent [footnote]this opens up ability to abuse, so i expect some raise to 80, rape, leave comments[/footnote].

You cannot control it. it works every time you touch another persons skin willingly or not.

So escapists the question is: would you consider it a gift or a curse, and how would you deal with such situation?

you can touch someone once and only gain a 10%, so its not a full never touch, its more of a dont keep poking people.

Curse - it's far too bothersome to have to worry about making contact skin to skin contact with people everywhere I go. I'd have to wear gloves all the damn time.

I would only use it if I was desperate to convince someone of something (such as, "hire me - I'm good at this stuff") but aside from that, no.

Not really, since in 10 (TEN!!!) touches you will not only have mindless slaves, but people who will try to follow you everywhere. (Can you see how annoying and troublesome it would be?) If it were something like 100 touches or more, or the effects would fade with time (even if it was a long time), then it would be bearable or maybe even interesting.

But 10 is too low. It would be a terrible curse. Even going in a bus or subway could be a huge problem if I didn't cover all my skin and it was packed with people. Hell, everywhere where there is a possible clustering of people I would have to walk all covered unless I want to risk, with some accidental touches, ending with a legion of passionate people following me around.

I don't know how the culture of the countries where you guys live, but here it's a social rule to greet people with handshakes (if they are strangers), hugs (if you known then) or kiss on the cheek (friends). Not doing so is something very strange here. I wonder in what way I would try to "escape" from physical contact, trying to prevent that all my acquaintances would want to follow me everywhere?

(Here I am assuming that the effect of level 100 would be that the person would want to "temain clinged onto you fanatically", I don't know if this would be exactly true for every kind of love, but I'm following your rules here.)

Or even, imagine a person that I *do* love and wanted her to be happy and well: I couldn't touch her without the consequence that, perhaps in a space of 10 minutes or less, I would have turned her into a "sticky" and eternal slave. I couldn't touch my mom, dad, brothers, friends, sons, cousins... No one, really, for maybe 1-2 times in my whole life.

Surely it is a curse:

I would exploit the hell out of people I hate and use it to dissuade people who are doing harm (public figures who are actively homophobic, etc) other than that I'd just wear gloves and shit. I can't imagine the good could ever outweigh the bad in this situation unless there was a reasonable way to decrease the like factor.

There's also a fair chance that if this did happen to me, I'd just give in to it and start manipulating everyone and go full villain with it. If that were the case I'd probably go to the local police station walking around giving everybody 7 or 8 taps on the arm, do the same with all the journalists and bank employees and clean the banks out.

Im sure everyone would hate to be the recieving end. the giving end on the other hand, rapey and not mildly for most i think.

Well by the time you reach 100 youd have to kill those people before they eat you alive. but the effects CAN be diminished, as stated, by doing something the person would consider to hate you for, as long as its not too far past the point of them caring (mindless slave wont mind), so you could abuse it to go up and down and touch more than 10 times the same person.

Haphephobia - fear of beign touched. salt it with some disease that makes your skin be very sensitive (lie) and you will be able to escape. besides, if they dont care about you they will touch you and start caring, at which point they will not touch you out of respect for you. so there IS a solution. why yes i though about it a lot.

100 is the extreme maximum. if you ever saw the movie perfume !!!!!!!SPOILERS: at the end the people go for massively drawn to the smell and from what is shown they devour him <./SPOILERS END>!!!!!!!! thats the reaction you would get at 100, in which case the only solution is to incapacitate the person, for example kill him.

Well, if a person dislikes you enough to slap you, him slapping you (touching your skin) would only increase it by 10 points, so sudden turnaround would not be that sudden. altrough if you get slapped and then poke her 5 times striaght after such situation could arise. after all you are manipulating their feelings.
Yes, it could be awkward, but so can any manipulatory power.
