Pretty simple question. Do you actually use the various social media things? Such as Tumblr, Twitter, Facebook, etc.

I don't. I used to have a Facebook account, but gave it up because it was fairly useless to me personally. Never bothered with Tumblr or twitter, or reddit, or whatever else.

So I was curious who else might be in the same boat as me, and just really don't give a shit about the various social media outlets that give the impression of being a necessary aspect of all human existence these days.

Anyone else?

After nearly 10 years I finally caved in some months ago and created an FB page for work-related reasons, and I intent to keep it that way. Fuck "liking" and forwarding anything.

I have a Facebook account because at my ripe old age of 28 (going casket shopping tomorrow!), it's the easiest way to keep in contact with everyone and to get information about past people/share information about myself to said past people.

I don't use it religiously however and it's the only one I've got of the "social media" stuff. I'm on it about once a day or so (though it's usually open and sitting there for buddies to ping me since using it as a IM service is handy) but I never post anything serious on it. For the most part, it's me in digital form; stupid self-loathing jokes that sometimes makes people who don't know me as well question why I hate myself so much :D Also movie reviews because the people demand to know my opinions on movies that everyone saw years ago!

The most serious thing I've ever used it for is slamming The Twins (baseball in Minnesota) so that gives you a good gauge of what I use it for.

The only one I use on a regular basis is Facebook. I get introduced to new bands, anime, etc through it and I can keep in contact with some friends.

I've tried out Tumblr and Twitter, but I've since deleted both. Just couldn't get into them.

I use Facebook and Linkedin fairly frequently. Facebook is great for groups like our course or societies where we have somewhere to discuss work or organise events. Linkedin is becoming more important for me and I've been working on making my profile the best it can be.

Though, it's reached the point where I think not having a facebook account, actually negatively affects your job prospects, stupidly.
They don't even give you the benefit of the doubt. If they can't look you up online, you don't make it to the short list.
Have you tried Linkedin? It is a social network that will allow you to be on an employers radar and it's mostly about jobs or job-related stuff so doesn't have a lot of the silly shit one generally experiences on a social networking site.

I have a facebook account for when friends want to contact me and because my university class has a group to post and answer question in. I don't post to Facebook very often in anything other than replies. It's an easy way to keep in contact with people who live in other parts of the country and organise groups.

I use Pintrest, DeviantART and occasionally Tumblr but it's not really as a social thing. It's just to find and group things I like.

Just to clarify because...well this is the internet, I'm not judging anyone either way. Mostly just curious about how prolific their use actually is.

I made a Facebook account back in '06 when I left home for college because my sister insisted that I had to have one to keep in touch with people. Turns out I didn't have to have one, because I only logged into it maybe four or five times, decided it was dumb, and kept in touch with everyone that I actually wanted to keep in touch with the same ways I'd always kept in touch with them without Facebook.

I have zero interest in any of the big social networking sites. Frankly, I think people tend to share a little bit too much of themselves online. Apparently there's been no better time in history to be a stalker or an NSA spook.

I used Facebook but I'm not don't used it heavily (only to log in to see my friends and families posts and then log out) and I recently signed up to Tumblr just so I can view all the people I liked under one page (I have made no posts from myself nor do I reblog other people stuff).
I don't have Twitter nor do I see the point in getting one myself. (Why do I want to read people activities or post my activities online?)

I have a Facebook account, but I maybe check it once or twice a day and rarely post anything myself. I've had friends try to get me to sign me up for Twitter, but I basically tell them that unless Facebook becomes useless, I have no intention of using Twitter. It took forever for friends to get me onto Facebook, and I only went to that because I was becoming part of groups that used Facebook as their main means of communication and setting up events. I have no intention of adding things like Twitter to the list unless those groups or a new group I join drop or don't have Facebook to being with, and I seriously doubt that that will ever happen.

I use Facebook and can go weeks without saying things on there because I don't like plastering my whole life on it. I use it for the wrong reasons too because I often go on rants about serious matters and a lot of my FB friends have two brain cells they share between them so half of them don't understand what I'm saying and the other half can have a good discussion with me. I did have a blog somewhere but that's died because getting exposure on your blog is hard and I like having debates.

I use Twitter far too much since I've had a few days off. I often try and fail to rant on that too. I rarely use hashtags though.

I set up an Instagram account for my cosplays and so I can perv over cute cosplaying boys and girls too.

I use Twitter.. sort of. By that I mean that I use it to follow people and companies I like. I don't really use it to actually Tweet anything myself all that often.

As for FB and all the others though? Nope. I don't use them at all.

I use it for a couple groups, a large plant identification one and a very small one with a few friends. It really is a convenient way of keeping in touch and talking with a few people at once. The hate it gets can be a bit ridiculous.

Yep, I use facebook daily and also have a twitter account, although I hardly ever tweet and don't actually end up reading anybody else's tweets most of the time (why would I be interested in knowing what you ate today?).

the trick to facebook is to be super conservative with you clicks and you can actually get yourself a decent news feed instead of just spam bullshit posts about what your friends kids had for breakfast today.

having said that, fuck social media. grab flipboard for your phone so you actually have a choice for what you read and when you read it.

I only use Facebook since its the easiest way to keep in contact with friends and use groups for the coursework groups for Uni. And I cannot be bothered actually getting a mobile phone. I will use Twitter *occasionally* since a few of my lecturers use Twitter to link interesting sites or articles.

Necessary evils they be in my line of work.

So yes, they're to promote my work. They work, sadly, or I'd never bother.

Hell I had to be bullied into making a facebook when it first caught fire, now I just use it to sell my friendlist my wares, jokes on them, hah!

I'm professional lurker of "proper" social media. Other than that, some forums. And hopefully I never have to sign up for Zuckerberg's spyware.

I have a Facebook acount but the only reason I log in is incase I want to send a message or when I received one. Even then, most of the time I go 'old skool' so to speak and just use text messaging via my mobile phone (I rather call though).

Only places you see me active on the internet is here (kinda), Gearbox software forums and LastFM.

I have a Facebook account to keep in touch with friends and family and occasionally posts pictures and talk shite on.

I also have a Twitter account which I use to send random thoughts into the void, learn about news quickly, and occasionally chat with a few people from here about various things. Oddly enough I'm followed by the guy behind Deadly Premonition. Also Ashley Esqueda (former content producer here) and a few of the newsies.

Finally, I do have a Reddit account but that's for one specific place, r/NLSSCirclejerk.

By far the most used now is Twitter. I used to not see the appeal, but then something clicked, and now I quite enjoy it.
