I was informed today its against the law to have regular sodas at school for students in the state of Georgia. Diet sodas are fine so is water and powerade. Because law makers feel that regulars sodas at school are whats making us fat. Not the millions other personal health choices we make in the day. Do you feel its a positive step to healthier America or stupid?

I need to make this clearer It is illegal to have in your possession regular sodas at my school

EP:There are no snack machines either and the food is illegal. Also teachers can have soda and junk food

I figured the problem was that kids who are rich have the option to buy french fries and pizza as side dishes.

It restricts freedom to do what we what which does not harm others. No-one is forcing the children to buy soda, and banning it just punishes otherwise healthy kids who fancy a little bit of a treat at school.

I would smuggle some sugar in if it was me. Just my little bit to fight the corrupt system.

Really? I'm glad I got out well before that rubbish.

OT: Of course it's not going to change the world but it's random little policies that allow the committees who have power over this stuff think that they have control. The two are very different concepts.

Yes, it'll probably help in a small way. No, it wont save the world mainly because the sweeteners will probably make everyone crazy. And/or give them cancer.

My school, I just left has a Appletiser vending machine, which has Apple, Grape and somethingelse-tiser.

Good Ol' rainy England. *Puts thumbs up in sarcastic happiness.

I think that It has more to do with the fact that if you spill a soda in class, it gets all over everything and makes a sticky mess. Thats why they ban gum, so it doesn't get all over everything.
Nope you had to throw away drinks if you got caught with them in class

We just got that rule at our school last year. It's stupid if we want to buy a soda and rot our teeth, or get fat then let us make our own decisions.

Lol, I'm guessing the guys who thought of this were pencil pushers and not health experts. There's no fat in a drink, so you physically can't get fat from drinks. They're attacking the wrong state of forking matter here!

In England, they just make you pour it out on to the ground, but we usually either down it when they spot us, or pretend to pour it out and actually pour it into a carefully placed randomer's mouth ^^

If kids aren't eating right then banning one particular unhealthy thing doesn't solve the problem. They just find a way around it or drink them at home, it's that simple. It's a stupid rule and there's no point to it.

Northwest, but I'm 21 so I've been out of school a while so it wouldn't have been implemented whilst I was there.
I still haven't heard anything about it however.

OP, you were actually better off than I was.

The state of California banned sodas (even diet) from schools 7 years ago. Not only that, but anything fatty and sugary. No more potato chips, chocolate, or candy. The only thing the schools managed to retain were Gatorade, fruit juice, and water.

But, as I had predicted all those years ago, if the students can't get their snacks and soft drinks directly from the school, they'll just be forced to turn to other methods. If the school is willing to give up a large source of income, fine. Their loss. Ever since 2005, I've seen kids with duffel bags full of chips, candy, and soda sell their "illegal products" to other students. The school got so upset, they had the school police do a crack down.

I live in Georiga, and yes, it is because of the healthy lifestyle nonsense. Schools are literally not allowed to sell certain items, not just Cokes, but types of chips and candy as well.

It's dumb. Dumb, dumb, dumb. I'm an American. Let me buy whatever the hell I want to.

Most likely because it doesn't work. Just because they restrict the supply, doesn't mean we students won't bring the drinks in themselves. If anything, the school could gave capitalised on this fact, and started selling them again.

Doesn't surprise me, kind like the uniform rules about wearing certain colour socks that nobody really gives a shit about.
I'm sure this new law changed nothing.
