Recently, I got into an argument with a guy who works at the video game store I go to about Indigo Prophecy. I just don't see the appeal in it. The guy I was arguing with didn't convince me, so I was hoping that someone here on the Escapist forums could sell me on it, because I honestly don't get why people seem to like the game so much.

I enjoyed it, for the most part. I even posted a review here about it a month ago detailing my feelings on the game. Of course, nobody responded to it so I can only assume that everyone else felt the same way.

I honestly never heard of it until Yahtzee mentioned (didn't he?).

But yeah, if it's old it's probably cheap.

I find it hard to play old games that I never touched... unless it brings a feeling of nostalgia when you play an old game... it's hard to get into for me. There are many old games I want to play.

No.

Argument over, please call again.

No, seriously, the point of buying and playing games is that if you want to try something, just try it and make up your OWN damn mind.

It's good, until it goes... in a different direction.
That is an understatement and a half.

The problem with Indigo Prophecy, or Fahrenheit as it was called in the UK, is that that there is far too much going on. It's like they had too many ideas, but couldn't bear to cut any of them, so you end up with a jumbled mess that leaves you scratching your head in confusion and feeling mildly cheated.

If they had stopped before they introduced the Orange clan, then Fahrenheit would probably be a much better thought of game. I'm hoping that Heavy Rain won't suffer from the same problem.

It taught me how to NOT cover up a murder, if that's what you're asking.

I loved the plot of the thing. While being an erratic button masher with the buttons that you press having absolutely no likeness to the actual action you are doing it was one of the few games that would let you change the story around you from both the side that's hunting you and yours.

It's quite interesting, if you like adventure games. If you need high levels of action, run away at all speed. If you want at least half of a very unique game in a supernatural thriller machinima vein, try it out. Even after it goes insane with mayans and personifications of the internet and ice ages it's still entertaining to watch, at least.

How do you know if you're wasting your money until you've wasted it? By asking people for their opinions. It's true not everyone has the same taste, but that's why numeric scores don't work, not why people can't ask for descriptions from like-minded individuals.

I first rented the game when i was 9 and only was able to get to the long action sequence where *blank* fights *blank* on top of the *blank* but 2 days ago i bought it from xbox originals and completed it. Its not so much a game as it is an interactive story...for what its worth its pretty damn good at storytelling.

I did not like this game.

Indigo Prophecy lives and dies on its story. The gameplay is basically quick-time event variations and some point-and-click adventure style puzzles. A game like this has to entertain you with its story more than most do. And it does this...for half the game.

It sets itself up as a mystery with some elements of psychological drama, but then hits a sudden downward spirals into paranormal elements that only serve to explain away all that drama and character relatability. When it did this, I ceased to care. The story was no longer compelling. When the story had me engaged, the gameplay had tension that kept me focused. When the story went batshit insane, the gameplay just felt annoying.

Plus...where the fuck did that romance come from?

Edit: Wait...this thread is from 2009.
